DARK KNIGHT RETURNS PART 2: Coming January 29th with Mark Valley & Michael Emerson Cast

Batman must battle old friends and foes on two fronts in the animated conclusion to Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies coming to Blu-ray and DVD on January 29.

With Gotham City back under his watchful eye, and accompanied by able sidekick Robin, Batman continues to battle crime – but his resurgence awakens a far worse evil at Arkham Asylum: The Joker. In the meantime, Superman has been dispatched by the President to halt Batman’s unsanctioned reign by whatever means necessary. Between the Joker’s diabolical scheme to drag Batman to the darkest levels of insanity, and the Man of Steel’s seemingly invincible physical presence, the Dark Knight must confront adversaries and allies simultaneously while maintaining the peace in Gotham City.

Primetime television stars Michael Emerson (Person of Interest, Lost) and Mark Valley (Human Target, Fringe) join the voice cast as The Joker and Superman, respectively; and popular talk show host Conan O’Brien gives voice to animated talk show host Dave Endochrine. Fanboy favorite Peter Weller (RoboCop, Dexter) continues as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and he is once again accompanied by David Selby (The Social Network, Dark Shadows) as Commissioner Gordon, Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Carrie/Robin, and Michael McKean (This is Spinal Tap) as Dr. Bartholomew Wolper. Also featured in the voice cast is Maria Canals-Barrrera (Wizards of Waverly Place) as new Commissioner Yindel, Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) as Lana Lang, and Radio Hall of Fame member Michael Jackson as Alfred.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 is directed by Jay Oliva (Man of Steel, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights) from a screenplay by Bob Goodman (Warehouse 13). Sam Register (Young Justice, Teen Titans, Ben 10), Bruce Timm (Justice League: Doom), Michael Uslan (The Dark Knight Rises) and Benjamin Melnicker (The Dark Knight Rises) are executive producers.

“Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 is epic animated filmmaking at its finest Crafted by an impressive team of filmmakers and voice talent alike it’s the perfect complement to the initial installment,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Home Video Vice President, Family & Animation and Partner Brands Marketing. “Just when you thought the story couldn’t become any more intense, the Joker and Superman arrive to up the ante – and Michael Emerson’s approach to the Joker is particularly chilling. @santoanderson Have you heard clips of him as Joker? He sounds pretty damn good to me.

I can't WAIT for this. I loved Part 1 (hence my avatar) and I can't wait for Part 2.
DrHorrible - 12/17/2012, 10:39 AM
@Azazel1 What are you talking about? Don't try to start shit in an article that has nothing to do with the movie you're alluding to.
dezdigi - 12/17/2012, 10:54 AM
Believe it or not, I still haven't watched my copy of pt. 1. I'm doing my best to hold out till pt. 2 is released!

His arm on the cover still bugs me. Looks like his arm is broken.

But this looks GREAT! Loved the first one can't wait for the second one and it just makes me hungry for MORE animated movies. I'm hoping for a disc with both movies back to back though.
Azazel1 - 12/17/2012, 1:30 PM
Wow so there is actually precedence for Batman quitting.

Better not watch this Marvelites....
MarkV - 12/17/2012, 1:30 PM
First one was better than expected. Wasn't happy about Weller, but he was awesome.
KnobGoblin - 12/17/2012, 3:16 PM
They saved all the bonus features for the second part it looks like. Hopefully they put together some kind of cool little box set with both parts and the bonus content in it.

I was really looking forward to this, but I gotta be honest...Part 1 let me down. It's not bad by any means, but I couldn't help but feel like it was slightly bland and boring in some areas. The comic did such a great job of creating an atmosphere of sweltering heat and chaos. A city that was overrun with crime and ppl who had given up. But this kind of glossed over a lot of that. And I didn't get a great feel for Bruce Wayne's deep seeded need to become Batman again. And the way they introduced Carrie/Robin...i don't know, I think their decision to make her able to fight immediately was more illogical than how she became Robin in the book. I hope part 2 really comes with it. That being said I love Batman so much I will probably buy this regardless. Not everything can be as great as 'Under the Red Hood'.

Part 1 amazing. Part 2 hell yeah. At azrael piss off don't even try to compare dkr to this story. He didn't fight 4 villains at 30 years old and quit. Tdkr was an abortion. its not being a marvelite, its having a brain.
