Did Ben Affleck Once Own A BATCAVE?

Did Ben Affleck Once Own A BATCAVE?

With many people questioning the casting of Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader in the Man of Steel sequel, one thing we can now be sure of is his overall interest in the character himself.

The casting of Ben Affleck as Batman has caused quite an uproar, with many people questioning Ben's acting chops, interest level, voice, and even his looks. But with on a podcast with Kevin Smith recently dished some information on Ben. One of the things he had said regarding Ben's experience with Daredevil and Ben's fondness of the character was “This dude has loved Batman going as far back as I can remember. He only did f***ing Daredevil because he loved Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns. He’s like, ‘They’re never going to make another Batman,’ because this was after Batman had nipples and s*** like that. So he was like, ‘Daredevil’s cool, and Miller wrote him as well.’ So he liked the character, but it was always rooted in Batman.” Mr. Smith is probably exaggerating when he says that it's the only reason why he took the role, but at least we know Ben is a big fan of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, which according to director Zack Snyder will provide inspiration for the film. Smith also said that when he bought Mr. Affleck's old house he discovered just how big of a fan Ben actually is. Smith said that one of the rooms in the house had a lot of books in there. While Ben was giving him a tour, Ben showed Kevin the room and then clicked a button, only to see that the bookcase started to move. Kevin exclaimed “You built a f***ing Batcave.” But Affleck said, “I built a Batcave entrance.” The room ended up being a panic room complete with a TV, phone, and other items one might need in case of an emergency or if one was locked in there for some reason. So while it may not be your typical Batcave, it still is somewhat close to it. Finally, regarding Smith's personal thoughts on how Affleck will do as The Dark Knight, Smith said “He’s always been into the notion. He’ll honor the character. I honestly think the dude’s a great actor. It makes absolute sense.” So there you have it. While other things can still be debatable, I guess there is no doubt that he intact is a long time fan of the character and will dedicate himself to it.

I like him as Batman but its about time he said something about the role. I guess the fanboys can scare off even the Batman. Damn!
Highflyer - 8/26/2013, 3:58 PM
So that's why he did dardevil? Makes a lot of sense now.

He's gonna be great. I watched Argo and The Town last night and I'm now officially excited to see him play Batman.

Ive been thinking about this casting choice for the past two days so far im starting to think this may not be such a bad idea after all. Yea Ben has made shit like Pearl Harbor, Gigli, Paycheck but that was all Ten years ago lately hes turned his career around. At this point i dont think he'd want to [frick] it up again. Im sure he'll Bring his A Game(hopefully).
marvel72 - 8/26/2013, 4:29 PM

Smallvillefan21 - 8/26/2013, 6:09 PM

Kevin Smith a.k.a Silent Bob does not suck one bit!

For that dumb comment of yours, Im gonna take half of your username and call you a Weiner!
TheGreenBastard - 8/26/2013, 6:10 PM
Decent article man, just needs some grammar tweaks, and it should be good.
nowtheresaBATman - 8/26/2013, 6:11 PM
Ben looks just like Jim Aparo's Bruce Wayne. Keeps reminding me of his Knightfall pencils in particular.

TheGreenBastard - 8/26/2013, 6:11 PM
Kevin Smith doesn't suck, he's just overrated.
TheGreenBastard - 8/26/2013, 6:17 PM
Nowtheresabatman: WOW! I can't believe I didn't make that connection, that's almost spot on.
nowtheresaBATman - 8/26/2013, 6:32 PM
First image in my mind when I saw that Ben was cast as Batman was Bruce coming up from the Batcave behind the clock to find Bane waiting for him in his room. No shit.
TheGreenBastard - 8/26/2013, 6:40 PM
Black: No worries mate, even top editors post articles while they are incomplete, so they can break it here first. So keep posting.

NowTheres: I'm 27, so when those comics came out I was 10ish, but I've read them, and own the TPBs, but when you mentioned it, I saw that sane image. A scruffy Buts coming up to the mansion, only to see Alfred unconscious(if I remember right), and then gets attacked by Bane.
TheGreenBastard - 8/26/2013, 6:42 PM
Nomis; If done right, id love that.
nowtheresaBATman - 8/26/2013, 7:29 PM
I got kicked out of the local pharmacy for loitering after I stood there & read that whole issue. I was in shock when they shoved me into the street...The Bat is broken! *&$*&$&%$!!
Not too many comics where you remember where you were & what you were doing when you read them. That's one of them. epic
TheGreenBastard - 8/26/2013, 7:35 PM
NowTheres: I wonder if the internets were as big back then, if fanboys would have freaked the [frick] out on DC when the broke the bat, and replaced him with a villian(reformed as he may have been), as they have with Doc Ock being Spidey. I knew back then, after death if superman, and bats got broke, they'd be back.
BritishMonkey - 8/26/2013, 7:52 PM
This just keeps sounding better and better.
FirstAvenger - 8/26/2013, 8:04 PM
Good to know he's a fan. Means he respects the character. Hopefully we get the REAL BATMAN.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 8/26/2013, 8:06 PM
Ben looks just like Jim Aparo's Bruce Wayne.

Cripes! He really does:

Nice catch.

TheGreenBastard - 8/26/2013, 8:11 PM
Rex: Thank you kind sir, I love that cover.
MrCameron - 8/26/2013, 8:11 PM
@ Rex

Anyway, I'm getting burnt out on these Ben Affleck as Batman articles. It's like the Bush Wars all over again; you either think their necessary or you don't, and those on opposing sides cannot accept each other's viewpoints.
TheGreenBastard - 8/26/2013, 8:20 PM
^^ dumbest recent comment
nowtheresaBATman - 8/26/2013, 8:32 PM
Napoleons lonely :(

Not only does Batman on that cover look so much like Ben it's uncanny but the "The Ultimate Trust -- -- or the Ultimate Betrayal?"
Seems to sum up the frenzy over WB casting Ben altogether. wOw....UNCANNY Indeed.
Floke - 8/26/2013, 9:13 PM
Bens batcave? J.Lo?
quas666 - 8/26/2013, 9:58 PM
One hing to get excited for is the fact that kevin smith could be attached to write a future Batfleck feature, i mean they're buds so it looks kinda apparent to me.
JediPhilosopher - 8/27/2013, 1:54 AM
I'm not everyone, but I've already decided I just won't be paying to see this movie. In the past, anything DC I'd have been there. But for the last 6 years or so I was losing interest because of the Nolan movies. Then out of nowhere another SUperman movie that looked promising and hints of Justice League on its way. Then this. It puts me right back where I was before I heard about Man of Steel.
loki668 - 8/27/2013, 2:42 AM
Ben Affleck is such a fan of Batman that he even referred to going down on Jennifer Lopez as "taking a trip to the Batcave".
ALF9001 - 8/27/2013, 4:07 AM
@nomis - HELL YEAH
CaptAwesome - 8/27/2013, 5:38 AM
wouldn't mind seeing them ditch the black batman suit for the old grey and blue one.
PenditaMarah - 8/27/2013, 9:04 AM

Nolan's batman was the best ever.I guess you're a fan of sxhumacher.

Yup and I agreed, ben affleck is just like jim aparo's batman.
