George Clooney Finally Shares His Thoughts On Ben Affleck Being Cast As BATMAN

Since Ben Affleck was cast as the Caped Crusader, we've heard from far too many people who have nothing to do with any of the Batman franchises. However, a few of the actors who previously played The Dark Knight have spoken out, and now Batman and Robin's George Clooney is the latest.

Like me, you're probably sick and tired of hearing B-List celebrities sharing their thoughts on Ben Affleck being cast as Batman, especially when they literally have no connection to any past or current iterations of the franchise. After all, who really cares what Donald Trump and Patton Oswalt think? Well, in the latest issue of Empire Magazine, they caught up with someone who knows all about playing the Caped Crusader on the big screen; Batman and Robin's George Clooney! "I am the least qualified person to comment on anyone playing the role of Batman since I so terribly destroyed the part," he laughed, before adding: "I tend to look at it like this - let's just see what the movie is before everyone starts beating him up. He is a smart man, he knows what he is doing." So, not exactly an endorsement, but he does think - like the sensible majority - that fans should give "Batfleck" a chance before completely writing him off!

Respect for Clooney. He has long acknowledged his flob in the role.
TheWolverine08 - 9/26/2013, 6:57 AM
At least he's modest.
GoILL - 9/26/2013, 6:58 AM
Batman and Robin is shit.
MrCBM56 - 9/26/2013, 7:00 AM
Good words from a good man. I've been supporting Affleck since day 1, and I have no doubt he will kill it.
TheAbomination - 9/26/2013, 7:00 AM
Clooney is a smug liberal bastard. But I'll give him props for this one.
Bokis - 9/26/2013, 7:01 AM
This is the greatest comment on the subject! Ever!
CaptainProg - 9/26/2013, 7:02 AM
please stop using the term "Batfleck!"
Ronnie11 - 9/26/2013, 7:03 AM
Why is that we need all the actor's opinion on ben affleck as batman..Seriously this needs to stop
SpectacularJoSh - 9/26/2013, 7:03 AM
His Batman was shit, his Bruce Wayne was shit,Batman&Robin was shit. Who gives a shit about his opinion any way?
MarkV - 9/26/2013, 7:04 AM
100% Team Benjamin.

Folks, we're seeing Batman and Superman on the big screen together. Gonna be insane.
Moohika - 9/26/2013, 7:05 AM
Very modest of him. I have also been a day one Batfleck supporter
Masterpace - 9/26/2013, 7:06 AM
"Since Ben Affleck was cast as the Caped Crusader, we've heard from far too many people who have literally nothing to do with any of the Batman franchises."

and now We have one more from someone who would love to have literally nothind to do with Batman franchise.

I don't know who cares about their opinion. I think Ben can pull this off nicely therefore I wait for the movie or at least first trailer and I will know everything after the premiere.
captquirk - 9/26/2013, 7:06 AM
I don't blame Clooney for Batman and Robin, I blame Joel Shumacher.
SuperCat - 9/26/2013, 7:06 AM
Bat nipples.

NoAssemblyReqd - 9/26/2013, 7:06 AM
Clooney and Affleck are best buds. Clooney even produced Affleck's ARGO. Did anyone expect him to say anything bad about his friend?

I think Affleck will do fine, unless he lets all the negative talkback get to his head and turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
PsyGuy - 9/26/2013, 7:06 AM
He's a great actor and has made nothing but AMAZING movies in recent years.

He certainly doesn't sound like a "smug liberal bastard" here...
Masterpace - 9/26/2013, 7:07 AM
I am the least qualified person to comment on anyone playing the role of Batman since I so terribly destroyed the part

At least he's honest and knows that B&R is shit.
Humperdink - 9/26/2013, 7:08 AM
Most of these 'X Comments On Ben Affleck As Batman' are all going to be the same thing if that person currently works in the business.

It will be: 'He has the chops, let's see what he can do, I trust Synder' etc.

Celebrities are going to support each other, they won't dog him out. At the very least, they'll just make jokes about it that may indicate how they really feel but never actually outright slam him.

The real honest reactions will come from the fans.

JoeMomma29 - 9/26/2013, 7:10 AM
LOL, what do people think other actors are going to say, ummmm he is going to suck or he is terrible actor.
thebearjew - 9/26/2013, 7:16 AM
ill never forgive Clooney for what he done
he should be more ashamed than porn vets terrorists etc etc
CherryBomb - 9/26/2013, 7:20 AM
There's no reason people should be kicking up a fuss.

He's a very handsome, well respected actor and director (sure it took him many years to get there but it's true) who's latest films has shown how talented he's become.

I'm all for it.

I thought Clooney could have been good with the right direction but the direction and movie as a whole was shit. I believe in Ben Affleck as Batman!
CherryBomb - 9/26/2013, 7:26 AM
This movie is going to be epic.
Who knows if it's going to be good?

But, a movie featuring two of the most iconic superheroes in the world is bound to be spectacular.
soforizo - 9/26/2013, 7:27 AM
"...he does think - like the sensible majority - that fans should give "Batfleck" a chance before completely writing him off!"

Not using the word "Batfleck" would be a nice start, don't ya think? I certainly have never seen you calling IM 1, 2 or 3, "Iron Downey" or using "Themsworth": The Dark World for Thor 2 or the first. Be part of the solution, not the problem.
JasonBlue - 9/26/2013, 7:28 AM
In all honesty, Clooney was the best Bruce Wayne thus far. Batman, no. But Bruce Wayne, YES.
TheWolverine08 - 9/26/2013, 7:29 AM
I don't see how Affleck's directing skill contributes to if he can play Batman well.
soforizo - 9/26/2013, 7:32 AM

Maybe because someone with good directing skills, especially with the authority to input into how his character looks, will have a better take on what actually looks good on film.
GliderMan - 9/26/2013, 7:33 AM
Bring back Heath Ledger!
WarnerBrother - 9/26/2013, 7:37 AM

While Ben is getting accolades for his directing skills, his acting in Argo and The Town was while not great, good and the man can still get all cut up for the physical side of things.
sameoldthing - 9/26/2013, 7:40 AM
George is right...gotta wait & see how it turns out.
My big worry is Ben's weak voice.
He must put some bass in the voice when wearing the cowl.
Affleck may not wanna growl but do something.
Nubase - 9/26/2013, 7:40 AM
George is right, lets see what direction zack is going with regarding batman cos as bruce wayne ben will pull it off no problem, but batman we need to what kind of batman it is.

For me it has to be the martial artist batman, the one that can do spinning kicks and roundhouse kicks, an mma fighter, maybe that why scott adkins was brought in cos he does in fact look like Affleck, if that is the batman zack brings then everyone will be happy.
PenditaMarah - 9/26/2013, 7:42 AM
I just thought that clooney was playing adam west's bruce wayne in batman n robin.he's a good actor, but joel schumacher destroyed him.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/26/2013, 7:44 AM
I think if Clooney had been directed by Burton, he would have made a good Batman. We will never know though.
MarkV - 9/26/2013, 7:47 AM
Who is Lex? WHO IS LEX???

What other heros will be featured? Any Joker easter eggs? (I know, I know "too soon.")
VolkanTaskillas - 9/26/2013, 7:48 AM
He was the best Batman/Bruce Wayne. It was not his fault that film was terrible. He don't put nipples on that sh!t!
Bearjew - 9/26/2013, 7:48 AM
Of course Clooney thinks Ben's good he produced Argo, that said Ben will be the best and most truthful representation of Batman
TheWolverine08 - 9/26/2013, 7:52 AM
@soforozio Really? Just because he's a good director doesn't mean he'll be a good actor.
Ichaos - 9/26/2013, 7:59 AM
@Gliderman ummm bringing back Ledger would require black magic and possibly human sacrifice. The man is dead
