Movement Tries To Boycott THE DARK KNIGHT RISES In Protest Of SOPA!

A radical movement inspired by Reddit intends to hit Hollywood where it hurts most: Their wallets. Specifically, The Dark Knight Rises' box office. Check it out..

According to 100gf, a radical movement is being inspired by a movement on Reddit to protest SOPA, by hitting one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year where it hurts: At the Box Office. From the site:

As opposition to Hollywood studios relentless support of SOPA and PIPA continues, a new campaign is urging people to boycott The Dark Knight Rises (this year’s big new Batman film) in protest. The campaign is based around this Reddit page and aims to hit Hollywood where it hurts by knocking some dollars off the film’s undoubtedly huge box office take.

Can a campaign to encourage a boycott of the film really do enough damage to make people sit up and take notice? Will The Dark Knight Rises be used to send a powerful message to Hollywood?

The Dark Knight Rises comes out July 20th, 2012. Starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Anne Hathaway. See it in theaters....or not?

you really expect fan boys who pirate movies to not go to the theaters to see one of the biggest super hero films of the year

99% internet trolls are batman fans
Spidey91 - 1/29/2012, 5:53 PM
sorry,not going to work
WolvieCBM - 1/29/2012, 5:54 PM
Yeeeah, this is not the way to protest SOPA. I'm not going to boycott anything, especially TDKR or any other film of this year.
Spidey91 - 1/29/2012, 6:01 PM

yeah,boycott Twilight instead :P
JDUKE25 - 1/29/2012, 6:03 PM
Yeah, screw that.
JDUKE25 - 1/29/2012, 6:04 PM
But ACTA is another one of the main things people are getting concerned about. Especially since it's been proposed and signed in some countries in Europe.
marvel72 - 1/29/2012, 6:06 PM
i don't mind waiting for the dvd. :D
Aeyan - 1/29/2012, 6:06 PM
I don't see that happening. Also, the film release is July 20th, 2012 not the 22nd, or am I mistaken?
bellEND - 1/29/2012, 6:07 PM
Pfft, I wasn't going to watch this shit movie anyway..
MikeZ - 1/29/2012, 6:10 PM
SOPA needs to be stopped. Seriously. Stopping people from seeing The Dark Knight Rises doesn't make any sense. Big deal, people should watch the movie and download it when it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray. Why download it when the movie launches in theaters when the quality is utter shit? Trust me, that's the best move.
MovieMann - 1/29/2012, 6:11 PM
The only people I see doing this are marvel72 and Intruder...oh and Grif.
FanboyTrump - 1/29/2012, 6:13 PM
Boycott boycott uhhhh TWILIGHT!

oh and that new zombie love movie...[frick]ing stupid!
edwardshiro - 1/29/2012, 6:14 PM
I'm not going to boycott THE DARK KNIGHT RISES!!
MikeZ - 1/29/2012, 6:14 PM
I wish we had the edit feature back!

And I agree with Xenix's theory: Why ban a great movie like The Dark Knight Rises when we could ban The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II. Movies like that should not be celebrated at all, period!

Hell, even a friend of mine got in trouble for downloading Garfield the Movie! Was that movie so scary good that the downloader had to be harassed? Even Bill Murray scoffed at it in Zombieland.
DaenerysTargaryen - 1/29/2012, 6:15 PM
Yeah....good luck with that. While you boycott I'll be in the front row fangirling over Bale, Hardy and JGL.
Have fun protesting :)
MikeZ - 1/29/2012, 6:16 PM
@ ChavoDel8

"Zombie love movie"?
Pockets713 - 1/29/2012, 6:17 PM
The people are reddit are 95% whiny douche bags... nobody is going to listen to this except for them... they'll sit at home jacking their dicks off to a new MEME they created basking in how ridiculously clever they are while we all go see an awesome movie!
dopemaster - 1/29/2012, 6:28 PM
I'm in
DCwanabe - 1/29/2012, 6:40 PM
HaHa Hell Yes I will boycott this movie if enough other people do, screw hollywood and SOPA. I can still go see avengers so I am good.
luckylu - 1/29/2012, 6:41 PM
ya.......dont see this working out to well but i can see nolanites bringing this up if avengers wipes the floor with tdkr as an excuse.
GodzillaKart - 1/29/2012, 6:46 PM
Doesn't have a chance of working...and though I support their adversity to SOPA, kinda shitty to pick out one movie. If it could work, that would be grossly unfair to the people associated with TDKR.
MrBlueSky - 1/29/2012, 6:47 PM
Supes17 - 1/29/2012, 6:54 PM
[frick] that shit!
Im watching that bitch on IMAX
^that coming from a guy who hates SOPA

Funny how they didnt choose the Avengers..I guess they dont expect it to be the top money maker of the summer:P

Supes17 - 1/29/2012, 6:59 PM
You left out that they are planning boycott the film's OPENING WEEKEND, in order to keep TDKR from breaking the record set by TDK to send Hollywood a message. I clicked on the link an read the first draft;)
misner89 - 1/29/2012, 6:59 PM
they need to eat shite and die already
Ceejay - 1/29/2012, 6:59 PM
Its a great idea, boycott the most popular and expensive movies Hollywood produce and hit them where it hurts, their pocket.

Unfortunately people are way too selfish to make the sacrifice for the greater good of having their freedom on the internet, the current generation is spoilt as hell with everything at their fingertips so they'll want their cake and eat it too. So Hollywood will once again prevail with the outdated format of making us pay to see the movie then pay to purchase the movie on Home Video and also pay to download the movie on pay per view when they can easily produce all three services at the same time for the convenience of the digital age and the viewer. Something they don't want to do simply because a staggered release of formats and situations means more money for them and more cash out of your pockets!

People are and always will be suckers because they never look at the big picture, just the fast-food mentality of having it now and quickly as possible!
Supes17 - 1/29/2012, 6:59 PM
So yeah, only the opening weekend
batfan08 - 1/29/2012, 7:19 PM
Ironic how these guys want to hit WB's wallets with a boycott, yet they continue to support them each time they purchase a V mask for their occupy protests.
ironknight - 1/29/2012, 7:26 PM

Dang! You totally put up that video before I could!
ironknight - 1/29/2012, 7:27 PM
Oh well

Anyways, isn't SOPA already pretty much dead anyway, being sent back for evaluation and all?
Bojac - 1/29/2012, 7:28 PM
Not a damn chance.
ISleepNow - 1/29/2012, 7:28 PM
Who gives even Half a fL|ck about that stupid Reddit page.
This isn't news
Supes17 - 1/29/2012, 7:28 PM
@Xeninx: Should have phrased it better.
They are trying to outdo the last one at the B.O. which is possible because of the increasing number of films breaking $1billion in the recent years.
carloszune - 1/29/2012, 7:34 PM
When this boicott project is ashes... you got my permission to Die.
Moozreversed - 1/29/2012, 7:36 PM
How about instead of boycotting a great movie people just stop DOWNLOADING s**t & giving these idiots a reason to try & get this BS law passed. I don't care how crappy a movie is you are not entitled to see it for free.
Moozreversed - 1/29/2012, 7:39 PM
Also, I agree with some of the previous posts. Don't see movies like twilight rather than hurt the box office of a film series thats been among the best CBM's we've ever gotten. You're shooting yourselves in the foot doing that.
Supes17 - 1/29/2012, 7:42 PM
BOYCOTT TWILIGHT! [frick] that shit!!
RyanLantern77 - 1/29/2012, 7:46 PM
No chance in hell
Supes17 - 1/29/2012, 7:51 PM
"No chance in hell" as in you're watching Twilight?
FanboyTrump - 1/29/2012, 7:54 PM

Its called Warm Bodies, its with the dude that played Beast in X-Men: First looks beyond retarded
