"I remember feeling very confident when I first came into the screen test because I had just left a part where I had put on a lot of weight, so I felt good. And I remember seeing Christian in the makeup chair and he looked really weedy and I thought to myself I can handle him. I went and got changed into my Bane costume and started flexing my muscles, feeling confident. And then Batman turned up and he was about 3 ft taller than me and I was like (gasp) that's Batman! There was a 3-yr old in me that was like 'That's Batman!" --- Tom Hardy on The Dark Knight Rises

@TheYoungMan I don't think so, not at this level of execution.
ShadowOfTheWeb - 11/28/2012, 6:58 AM
@theYoungMan i agree. i still can't believe the level of awesomeness we were treated to with the dark knight trilogy
GuardianAngel - 11/28/2012, 7:06 AM
Hardy did an awesome job.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 11/28/2012, 7:08 AM
@TheYoungMan, Agreed.
Jollem - 11/28/2012, 7:26 AM
they make people look taller or shorter in movies all the time. tom is one inch taller than rdjr.

hardy kicked some ass. i'm tied between bane and the joker for my favorite villain

GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 7:30 AM
Although Bale was a shitty Batman, I really did like the trilogy, overrated though it is.

I give BB - 2.5 stars
TDK - 4.5 stars
TDKR - 3.75 stars

All in all great. IMO it's looking to be the second best CBM trilogy of current times.
MarkJulian - 11/28/2012, 7:41 AM
BB 2.5 stars? Damn near shed a tear at the end of that film thinking 'They finally got it right.'
Maximus101 - 11/28/2012, 7:47 AM
@godzilla stop singing te same tune in every batman article, grow up man seriously. I don't see you giving marvel movies bad rating cause only ironman i would give 5/5 the rest, no chance. Sorry but the TDK trilogy is the best cbm trilogy by a long shot regardless if you think so or not.
PapaEmeritus - 11/28/2012, 7:58 AM
@TheYoungMan, agreed. The whole trilogy is a hell of an achievement. Fantastic job.
Good luck to whomever Warner Bros. will choose to reboot Batman. The bar has been raised HIGH.
TheOneWhoKnocks - 11/28/2012, 7:58 AM
@Godzillafart, you are entitled to your opinions but from a normal moviegoer's POV, you have a shitty taste bro.
PapaEmeritus - 11/28/2012, 8:00 AM
BB - 5/5
TDK - 4.75/5
TDKR - 4.5/5
TheOneWhoKnocks - 11/28/2012, 8:00 AM
@youngman, for me it's TDK Trilogy,LOTR, Starwars.
I enjoyed lotr n tdk trilogies more than SW.
TheOneWhoKnocks - 11/28/2012, 8:01 AM
My rating would be,
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:04 AM
@Maximus101: I agree that IM is the best Marvel movie, and I give it 4.5/5. IMO, the IM trilogy is set to be the best CBM trilogy thus far, but it all weighs on IM3.

There are two reasons I give the Nolan's movies persistent shit. One, Bale is a terrible Batman that scars all three films, and that will always be a thorn in my side. I've written at length about it here, but the bottom line is, Batman is supposed to be very tough and very smart and Bale (along with Nolan's writing) suggest neither.

The second is that although it broke some important ground, BB just doesn't strike me as a very good movie, for a number of reasons. Three quick ones:

No emotional content (if you can't make a child's parents getting murdered in front of him emotional, well that's a problem)

Cliche' ridden first third. In a way, it's good that Nolan chose to rip off Dr. Strange's origin, because it may cause Marvel to push it into more interesting ground for the DS movie.

Boring final third. Worst final fight in history. Blow up Wayne Manor and nobody cares. Boring Scarecrow hallucinations when they could have been awesome. etc.

The way Nolan did the tech was top notch. As were all the supporting actors except Holmes.

I've actually bitched quite a lot about Marvel films, including both Hulk films and Evan's being picked for Captain America (the guy has zero Command Charisma). Thor had a perfect cast, but the break between the shots on set and the CGI Asgard shots felt really disconnected.

Personally, I think TIH was the worst Marvel film. Norton, although looking the part, was miscast (Banner isn't an action hero), The hulk wasn't right visually speaking, and Abombination was a cop out. They decided to make Doomsday instead of trying to adapt the character. TIH was as bad or only slightly better than BB.
Supes17 - 11/28/2012, 8:07 AM

I enjoyed them all
Supes17 - 11/28/2012, 8:08 AM
Iron Man is still my favorite Marvel Studios film, followed by The Avengers
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:11 AM
@dud3rulz: Although I don't care about the taste of the general public (Transformers?!) or critics. But I find that my ratings are pretty much in line with most critics and people I talk to.

Let's face it: BB became a lot more popular after TDK.

Sorry I can't be a blind and uncritical lover of these films. As a Batman fan, it's hard to ignore all the ways they (BB especially) really [frick]ed up.
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:15 AM
@monkeyballs3: I think IM is my all time favorite CBM, followed closely by TDK (which may have taken it if they had cast the lead well).

Although dated, the '78 Superman The Movie was [frick]ing amazing for its time and still holds up. The first hour of that film is 5 stars and probably the best character development and origin story of any superhero on film.
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:17 AM
@Nomis: Thanks Man! It's not about shitting on each others opinions. It's about friendly debate.

I rarely write IMO because that applies to almost every comment everyone makes on this site.
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:20 AM
@TheYoungMan: Don't get me wrong, not all the time, and I don't really care.

But, for example, on RT the "Top Critic" rating for BB is 62%, while it's 91% for TDK and 91% for IM. That's pretty close to how I feel.
datNAMEtho - 11/28/2012, 8:23 AM
BB - 10/10
TDK - 10/10
TDKR 10/10
gmoney0505 - 11/28/2012, 8:24 AM
Loved Hardy as Bane. Hardy is a great actor in which he is to playing the same character in every movie he is in to me. Just like Gary Oldman.

Will miss the trilogy. Story wise it is what CBM should strive to be. Tell a wonderful story than to just be about villain taking over the world. All 3 movies go deeper than that and Chris did a wonderful job at doing that for 3 movies straight.

IM set to be the best CBM?

IM1 was a great movie. Loved it. IM2 is one of the worst CBM to come out. It looked great but lacked so many things to even make it a watchable movie. Hopefully IM3 will be good. With IM2 being so not enjoyable, IM is nto even up there to be considered the greatest CBM trilogy of all time.
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:25 AM
@Nomis: I'm curious what you hated Ledger's performance. I have to admit, I loved it.
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:29 AM
@gmoney0505: Although I agree IM2 was a big drop from IM, I think it is commonly underrated. I do wish we got to see all of Rourke's performance, which apparently ended up on the cutting room floor.

Regardless, IM2 is still head and shoulders above BB, so for me as long as IM3 is superior to TDKR, IM will take it.
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:38 AM
@TheYoungMan: Um...Incorrect. Overall ratings are:

Iron Man - 94%
Batman Begins - 85%
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 8:41 AM
All right everyone. Off to work. Thanks for the morning debate.
skidz - 11/28/2012, 9:09 AM
Though I disagree that we'll never see anything like this ever again, I understand the sentiment. I don't think we'll see any trilogy of this quality any time soon. Until then we're going to see a LOT of shitty knock offs. Nolan really threw down the gauntlet with these. But someday, someone with enough talent and a big enough imagination will give us something with this quality.
GoILL - 11/28/2012, 9:18 AM

That shot at Nomis was a low blow man but still funny as shit, good thing Nomis is a pretty cool dude otherwise you would probably end up in the hall of shame.
marvel72 - 11/28/2012, 9:45 AM
batman begins 4/5
the dark knight 4/5
the dark knight rises 2.5/5

the dark knight trilogy 4/5
GoILL - 11/28/2012, 9:58 AM

Yeah my Bears got you guys pretty good this season. :)

I know man I just focused more on that because it made me laugh.
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 9:59 AM
@Levitikuz: You have to understand, I'm not saying IM2 was great, it was good, and frankly a disappointment. What I'm saying is that BB was an overrated, mediocre and highly flawed movie that I find unwatchable now. Then again, I'm a Batman fan, so I wanted it to be great. As a CBM, it doesn't make my top 15.

Now I'm not sure why we have to get into name calling, but I do find that the people who do name call are the ones that seem to lack the ability to articulate themselves clearly...dummy. :P
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 10:01 AM
@Nomis: I see where you are coming from...although I think I will always love the interpretation.

Deschain12 - 11/28/2012, 10:02 AM
My favorite trilogy. Loved all three films.
GoILL - 11/28/2012, 10:24 AM

If the offense can get their shit together I think we have a good of chance of taking it all this year.
thewonderer - 11/28/2012, 10:36 AM
Bale is a bad batman? Lmao okay let's see the other Batmans widely portray every single emotion at a moments glance. Let's see another batman with such a physique and will.

Bale is one of the best actors to date and I'm confident no one will top him, especially not shiity stoic Keaton
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 10:48 AM
@thewonderer: Hey Man, saying Bale is a shitty Batman does not equal an endorsement of any other actor to play Batman. Personally, I'm still waiting for a good onscreen Batman.
TheOneWhoKnocks - 11/28/2012, 10:52 AM
bale was good batman imo if not the how can people fail to understand that if bale's batman was bad, the movies obviously would be's just your issue :)
that awesome interrogation scene with joker was enough to say bale was good ^_^
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 10:53 AM
@Levitikuz: I do agree with you on that point. Nolan took a franchise out of the shitter and turned it into a successful trilogy. He broke some specific and important ground by taking a more reality based approach (not saying it is a realistic movie) that made other movies possible. Iron Man, which I think is the best origin story movie, would not have been possible if not for BB.

I would also say that Batman is a well loved and interesting character who should be easy to adapt to the big screen. Given the ground Nolan broke, I hope the next Batman incarnation is far better, because I still think BB was mediocre and Bale was shit.
GodzillaKart - 11/28/2012, 10:55 AM
@dud3rulz: Your logic is flawed, my friend. TDK was a damn near perfect movie, IMO. I cringe out of embarrassment any time Bale opens his mouth, and I wish he seemed smart....and tough, but besides that the movie is great.
TheOneWhoKnocks - 11/28/2012, 11:03 AM
@godzilla, how is my logic flawed ? if Bale was as bad as u said, scenes that involve batman should suck ..but they didn't. He was tough, his fights were good...i think it's the voice :P
PS: i agree that TDK was near perfect.
