Today is the day fans the word over show their appreciation for DC's Dark Knight, and with yet another live-action take on the character set to grace the big screen next year when Ben Affleck inhabits the cape 'n cowl, we though it would be a good opportunity to look back over the previous 7 actors who've brought life to the Caped Crusader over the years and see if we can decide who did the best job.

The first actor to suit up as Batman was Lewis G. Wilson, who donned the cowl in the 15-part 1943 Columbia serial before being replaced by the much better received Robert Lowrey in 1949. Then we had Adam West's famously campy, but fondly remembered portrayal in the '60s Batman TV show. Things got a lot more serious when the Dark Knight finally made it to the big screen in Tim Burton's 1989 blockbuster, with Michael Keaton brooding his way through two movies. Six years later things took a step back towards camp when Val Kilmer took over in Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever, before the director went on to put the final nail in the franchise's coffin in Batman And Robin, which featured George Clooney as Bats... nipples and all. Then of course Christopher Nolan resurrected the iconic hero in spectacular fashion with Batman Begins in 2005, with Christian Bale's notoriously gravelly Bat-voice dominating three movies.

You might think this is a two-bat race, but there are those that think Clooney and Kilmer did very well with what they had to work with, and there are also completists who are huge fans of the first couple of incarnations. Seven live-action Batmen, all bringing very different pros and cons to the table - but who do you guys think was the best?

Bale was the best Batman, I'm still not sure if Affleck is the right choice. I think his brother Casey would have been a better choice, but that's my opinion

I think you have to also take into account: who is the best Bruce Wayne? He is 1/2 of the figure that is Batman. Unfortunately, the movie and the script can also add to wether or not who we think is best and why.

I'll go by which interpretation had the biggest influence on me, and that's got to be Michael Keaton's Batman.

Bale was good like Batman and like Bruce, but Michael Keaton did a great job at least in Batman side and loonely Bruce side.

But i am sure Ben Affleck will destroy all they with his "ComicBooky Acting" of this new 50 years old Batman.

This question vexes me because i grew up watching the Joel Schumacher Batman movies and as a child liked the George Clooney Batman (I was a child don't hate me pls). But as i grew up and finally view the full entire history of Batman from Keaton to Bale, i can see my adoring the Keaton Batman but being the most influenced by the Bale Batman (probably more because of Nolan's directing than anything). This all being said i feel that Keaton is probably the best Batman because of bizarre idea of Keaton actually being Batman but then knocking it out of the park :)

Keaton did an okay job, he gets nothing to do as Batman in the movies, I don't find anything particularly special about his performance. While I'm not keen on Bale's voice, he is the only one to make a genuine effort on the role and that says more than the other people on the list.

Michel Keaton I think is the best and my favourite his Batman was great and I especially liked that batsuit. I also liked the charm he brought to Bruce Wayne.

Bale by far. Even though he wasn't perfect he was the most competent at displaying both the illustrious playboy facade as well as the tortured and ideological vigilante that I feel Batman as a whole should be. Keaton was very good as 'Batman' in the sense that he captured the angst that being a vigilante would carry, but there was no charm or charisma to his Bruce.

Nomis

That Batman was like the comics.....TDK & Rises has a horrible costume design.....I liked it when I first saw it...then I re-watched BB..

But to me TDK was a better story due to the Joker...
