TDKR: Joseph Gordon Levitt Comments On Robin Rumors, But Don't Expect A Straight Answer!

TDKR: Joseph Gordon Levitt Comments On Robin Rumors, But Don't Expect A Straight Answer!

While promoting his latest movie 50/50 Levitt responds to an outright question by MTV on which character he is really playing in TDKR. Robin? The Riddler? Think you will find out?..

Course you won't. But watch the video below and see if you can discern anything from Levitt's answers..

"You know I can't have this conversation, man," he laughed when asked point blank if he'd be playing Robin in "Dark Knight Rises" during a conversation with MTV News at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting his latest movie, "50/50." "I can't have this conversation."

"You know, we're working on a Batman movie," he said about the experience. "Batman is a very dear character that precedes the recent Chris Nolan trilogy. I think it's cool that people care a lot about it and are very interested in what we're doing."

What we do know, or at least what we have been told, is that Levitt is playing a Gotham City cop called John Blake. But many fans are convinced this is misdirection and that he is in fact playing a more established character from Batman mythology. Personally I really don't think he is, but it is a bit unusual that he didn't just come right out and put a stop to the rumors as would normally be the case. I guess Mr Nolan likes to keep everyone guessing.

If Chris Nolan decides to include Robin, I hope it will be darker and without the trunks like the Arkham Asylum Robin.

it could very well be his character aiding batman while gorden is in hospital, like a side kick but not as robin by name, cos its highly unlikely that batman in world that nolan created will be able to take down bane and the league of shadows all by himself, he's gona need some help
MaddMonkk - 9/19/2011, 10:52 AM
I still say he's a good couple who wins the trust of Batman and Bane kills him in front of Batman to prove his misguided point.Or not.

Marion: "Joe, how much you want to bet they're going to think you're playing Robin?"
JGL: "Oh please, fans aren't that stupid."
C_Nolan: "(lowers newspaper to reveal face) You'd be surprised (goes back to reading the paper)."
Bigbywolf - 9/19/2011, 11:04 AM
I hope, like Inception, he gets a really good role and doesn't end up being on screen for only a short while. He's one of my favourite actors at the moment and has come a long way since '3rd rock from the sun.'
CorndogBurglar - 9/19/2011, 11:07 AM
God these rumors...

"If you take the first two letters of John, and the last two letters of Blake, it spells JOKE! He's the Joker!"

Seriously, he's a cop working for the League of Shadows. He gets shot in the head. Just wait.

@ Spectre

Anarky? where the hell did you pull that out of? lol

Greengo - 9/19/2011, 11:09 AM
Didn't Chris Nolan already say that Robin would be too young to include in his Batman series?

@3D lmao! :)
BATMANx - 9/19/2011, 11:10 AM
I think he maybe Tim drake or Dick Grayson or he may just be john blake..
SHHH - 9/19/2011, 11:11 AM
@CorndogBurglar: Exactly...
Ranger14 - 9/19/2011, 11:13 AM
Why would they introduce Robin in the finale of Nolan's trilogy?
yeoldeemoney - 9/19/2011, 11:15 AM
I dont care who the feck he is in the movie. He's in Batman and I'm happy with that.
Treebeard - 9/19/2011, 11:19 AM
@SuperSpiderMan HELL YES!!! that would make my decade

and @ Corndog don't be an asshole mate, everyone's entitled to their own speculation. it's fun to try to imagine the curve balls Nolan's gonna toss our way
marvel72 - 9/19/2011, 11:20 AM
if he is playing robin, this is movie getting worse by the minute robin sucks.
Treebeard - 9/19/2011, 11:20 AM
Joker is alive and well bro
batmanrises - 9/19/2011, 11:22 AM
He's not going to be a costumed character...Everyone though Anthony Michael Hall was going to be some costumed freak but turned out to be just some obnoxious reporter...
Spidey91 - 9/19/2011, 11:25 AM
I don't think he's Robin...BUT if he turns out to be Robin after all,I will eat my shorts :P
revloveR - 9/19/2011, 11:26 AM
PapaEmeritus - 9/19/2011, 11:27 AM
If Robin appears in TDKR, I'll join myself to marvel72 and Intruder in "this film is doomed" chorus! LOL! i'm joking, but seriously, Robin sucks dick.
CorndogBurglar - 9/19/2011, 11:33 AM
@ smoka

is it really being an asshole when it has been confirmed countless times that:

1. Robin will not be in Nolan's bat-films.
2. Riddler will not be in TDKR.
3. Nolan will never recast Joker out of respect for Ledger.

These are all things that Nolan himself has confirmed, yet people still act like they're possibilities.

Does it really make me an asshole for pointing that out and finding it ridiculous that people STILL speculate these things?
CorndogBurglar - 9/19/2011, 11:34 AM
and hey, if he ends up being Robin, i'll eat my words and admit that i was wrong.

But it isn't going to happen.
Zordan - 9/19/2011, 11:35 AM
he is robin or nightwing. i cant wait to see the movie :)
CorndogBurglar - 9/19/2011, 11:36 AM
@ smoka

I've been on this site for almost 3 years, believe me, I know about speculating, and do a ton of it myself. But why speculate something that has already been confirmed as not happening?
NOLANITE - 9/19/2011, 11:44 AM
@corndog I'm siding with you. Its been confirmed numerous times. Nolan throws curveballs but im sure and positive he strictly told us no to those three things. I'm assuming yes assuming that this Blake dude takes Gordons job temporarily while he's in the hospital and does earn bats trust as a good cop. So a sidekick kinda but isn't that what Gordon was in TDK? People just hate hearing the truth. And im sure hell have a big role in this one just like dent had on the last one.
Treebeard - 9/19/2011, 11:45 AM
@ CDBurg Smoke Screens bro, you never know! that's all i'm saying mate!
8thDynasty - 9/19/2011, 11:47 AM
I like the idea of Nightwing being a sort of "copy-cat" vigilante that can actually handle his own.
NOLANITE - 9/19/2011, 11:48 AM
And I too would eat my shorts if the word Robin or nightwing get mentioned in tdkr. But if you think about it nolans villains or heroes never really get their names. Like two face was known as Harvey dent (only called two face once by Gordon) same with scarecrow (johnathon krane all along both films) or Selina Kyle. I'm sure she won't be called catwoman in the tdkr.
Treebeard - 9/19/2011, 11:49 AM
i mean the joker thing was said before they even started the script, so maybe he changed his mind? you never know, that could be the biggest twist of them all. but it wouldn't matter, i'm just glad JGL is in this at all. i have faith that he'll end it perfect!
Braveheart - 9/19/2011, 11:50 AM
Did nobdoy see the pic of him in the first Batsuit? Somebody commented that it looked ill-fitting for the stunt man but if you look at the chin it was Levitt! He may be playing Blake but helping Wayne by dressing in Batsuit and both appearing at same time. My guess is Blake could be a Nightwing type character, Robin don't fit in Nolan's world but Nightwing or Azrael might!!! 2 Batmen???
mrHJK - 9/19/2011, 11:50 AM
It's ridiculous for people to say he's too big of an actor to play a character not from the comics.. I seem to remember Katie Holmes and then Maggie Gyllenhaal playing an original character that turned out pretty important..
TheQuestion - 9/19/2011, 11:52 AM
Didn't Nolan say that Catwoman wasn't going to be a villain when he first started scripting TDKR? Now here we are with Catwoman in the movie. We have an A-list actor like JGL playing a nobody character and we should take it at face value? No. Absolutely not. He may not be Robin, but he has to be someone of more substance than a run of the mill cop.
BraxtonHicks - 9/19/2011, 11:55 AM
With Nolan, who knows who he's really playing. We won't know til the movie comes out. He could be playing Max Cort or someone like him...or even Alberto Falcone for example, for all we know he could be Jean-Paul Valley or a rendention of him...i'm not saying i'm right, just giving an example is all...
scapegoatjones - 9/19/2011, 11:55 AM
all I hope is that this is a nolan-specific story and not some fuxing horror show like Knightfall. he'll prob use bit actors to play brief cameos of escapees from Arkham so he can get as many in as possible without coming down with Spidey 3 syndrome.

it would be super-limiting to do the lazy broken back story given the time constraints put on a 2.5 hr movie to rectify or remedy in related story, so again I hope the storyline is all nolan's concocting.

JGL's character's true identity will be revealed in the last 30 min of the movie. if he's 'robin' you'll see a costume left for him in the batcave, or Wayne or Gordon will refer to his 'real name' in an offhanded comment that makes the audience pee a little.
