THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' Christian Bale Says, "I Am Ready To Move On"

In the June issue of Rolling Stone Magazine Christian Bale talks about which of his co-stars had the most difficult role in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.

In the new issue of Rolling Stone Magazine the actor talks about what you can expect in his third and final Batman film. He also chats about what made the role so enticing to him. When he was asked about a possible fourth film in series if The Dark Knight Rises was as successful as 2008's The Dark Knight and he replied:

“No, this is the last of this Batman era. Unless Nolan wants to do another."

Ready To Move On

"It was like saying goodbye to an old friend. When you have the opportunity to play a role so many times, you develop another type of relationship with it, a more profound one. But I am ready to move on.”

Nolan Always Planned A Trilogy

"Yes, Chris talked about the sequels the first time he opened his mouth. It didn’t interest me to make more than one Batman, but it came out good and I loved what Chris was doing. We’ve had a lot of fun making these movies."

What To Expect From The Dark Knight Rises?

"It will explore the pain that Bruce Wayne has been running from and his motivation. His chase after the bad guys in his heroic act and it is something very exciting, however Bruce, the Casanova, is a pure facade, a lie. Only Alfred knows his true self. The time has come to face the pain from the great loss that has always affected his life."

Who Has The Hardest Role?

"Anne is marvelous, Joseph is phenomenal, and Tom is fantastic. Perhaps the hardest role was that of Anne's. There are people that think that the role of Catwoman has already been defined previously (by Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns, in 1992). But I’ve always considered her role as the most complicated of all."

Batman's Costume

"It was a pain to put on, and once on it was like an oven. It wasn’t comfortable wearing black rubber, but at we mostly filmed at night when it was colder."

Character's Popularity From The Realism

“Everything Bruce Wayne gets is believable; a man should be able to do it. Bruce uses perception, psychology, and martial arts. Anyone of us can pull it off."

Why Did He Take The Role?

“I thought that I could get something new out of the role. I was never interested in the other Batman movies, even though I liked watching the series since I was a kid, but it wasn’t anything special for me. Originally, the first installment was going to a low budget film, and that was the type of project that I wanted to be a part of. Later, it became a huge production and I thought: ‘Oh, S***’. However, when they got Chris as the director, I knew that he would make something a lot more interesting than we had ever seen. People laughed when we told them we were going to take Batman seriously. But when those same people saw the movie, they were left surprised. I am proud of these movies that we have done because, normally, in these massive production, details are lost, and these movies don’t disappoint in that aspect."

I always thought nolan never intended to make sequels? $ talks i suppose
TheHitchhikingGhost - 5/27/2012, 3:19 PM
Tea said exactly what I brought away from this: Batman lives.
TheHitchhikingGhost - 5/27/2012, 3:19 PM
THAT'S amazing, Gecko.
NeoBaggins - 5/27/2012, 3:20 PM
Awesome interview. He's completed a trilogy (most likely the first solid CBM trilogy) and deserves to move on to whatever projects he wants. Good show.

"People laughed when we told them we were going to take Batman seriously. But when those same people saw the movie, they were left surprised."

A nice way of saying they ate shit.
Tymminator - 5/27/2012, 3:21 PM
You know in a way, the best thing about this series is the worst thing. I am great full to Nolan bringing the fans a awesome trilogy of the Batman, but the fact that it will be rebooted leaves me with little desire to see the next Batman anyone does. It will be hard for me to be personally vested in a new Batman film series, unless maybe it ties into a DCCU.

He didn't physically abuse his mother. He "verbally assaulted" her.

I want the next film incarnation of the Batman series to have the spirit of the Arkham games.
Tymminator - 5/27/2012, 3:24 PM
@ggoblin31, that would be awesome.
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:25 PM
[frick] the reboot...
Do a Batman Beyond film
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:25 PM
Or a Batman trilogy where all the Robins get to grow up and battle for the cowl in the last film
WingDingaLing - 5/27/2012, 3:26 PM
Someone seriously NEEDS to ask Bale if he would like to be part of a Justice League film in the future. I'm curious to what he would actually say.
musashi - 5/27/2012, 3:27 PM
Yeah, any one of us could pull it off ... If we were all billionaire playboys that is!!
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:27 PM
Most of the people screaming "Bring On the Reboot" will probably talk shit about it as well if it ends up being just as successful and critically acclaimed.

Batman is DC, so it doesn't matter how good it is...
Azrael725 - 5/27/2012, 3:28 PM
@Tea: that was my first thought! lol

@Intruder: Everybody has said that he is a pleasure to have on set. So what if he ranted, true it was out of line, but the guy was asking for it lol The story about him beating his mother and sister was a false claim. no charges were even filed! plus if any of you remember he was caught on video escaping Chinese police because he was on his way to see a human rights activist. from what i have seen he seems like a decent guy.
NeoBaggins - 5/27/2012, 3:29 PM
My only concern I have with the reboot is the casting. You literally have to cast one actor for two roles; Batman AND Bruce Wayne. It has to be right.

Far as the content, I'm confident they will take the film in an awesome direction. They would be fools to revert back to the previous formula, so I'm crossing my fingers for Nolan series quality with comic book fantasy.
95 - 5/27/2012, 3:29 PM
This definitely will be one of the best film trilogies ever. If not, the best. Christian Bale is a powerful actor, but seems like a horrible person to talk to. His Batman is my favorite and I can't wait to see how this ends.
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:31 PM
Nah, I'm saying [frick] THE REBOOT...
Unless it's like Arkham City...
sbdc1939 - 5/27/2012, 3:34 PM
the only thing that sucks about these movie is that it will be hard to make another "good" batman movie because these movie were sooo well liked by ppl who arent batman fans and batfans alike, there are a few ppl who dont like and thats fine but i hope the reboot will be soon because there are so many other great batman story aspect to cover that may never be used if the movie is rebooted evey 12 years
DraculaX - 5/27/2012, 3:34 PM
Can't wait to see this film and what they'll so with the reboot.... I just hope its not an origin story again.
marvel72 - 5/27/2012, 3:38 PM
i would love to see some of batman's other villains.

-joker & harley quinn
-two face(on the screen longer than the last 30 minutes)
-killer croc
-black mask

definetly bring on the reboot & make a dc cinematic universe.
Gmoney84 - 5/27/2012, 3:39 PM
I think the template for the next batman movie should be the ark ham game series.
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:41 PM
LOL ^^
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:41 PM
crap I hate it when that happens..
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:42 PM
Hush would be fantastic... I had almost forgotten about the character until I saw him in Arkham City.
I think that Jason Todd/Red Hood should also be a villain. I'd love to see a battle between him and Nightwing
glynthomas86 - 5/27/2012, 3:44 PM
I wish TDKR would kill at the box office (which it will) and Nolan would decide to do one more. But DC is likely trying to take a similar route to Marvel and plan for a Justice League movie. Bale obviously won't be a part of this and a reboot will have to happen. I don't see a JL movie working as well as The Avengers did. What do y'all think?
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:45 PM
I think it should start in Batman's last days....
If you haven't been paying attention to the Arkham games, Batman doesn't really have much time left.
he's been Batman for a LONG time. Nightwing and Tim Drake are grown up. Barbara is paralysed.. Many of his iconinc villains are dying...

I think the movie should be just like that
GiantNerd - 5/27/2012, 3:45 PM
"[frick] yer amateur"
95 - 5/27/2012, 3:46 PM
"I'm sorry" LOL @teabag
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:47 PM
@Teabag: i agree.
After this film is over, Batman should rest in dark glory.....

DC really needs to start paying attention to its other characters.. They've already started working on Superman, now Wonder Woman and Flash need to get developed.
I would understand if they change some things, bc I'm not sure how a film based on those characters would work
SleazyJonesDC - 5/27/2012, 3:47 PM
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Supes17 - 5/27/2012, 3:48 PM
Warner Bros. is full of pussies. They wouldn't have the balls to do a cinematic universe.... i don't blame them, Green Lantern was attrocious
marknjoanna - 5/27/2012, 3:49 PM
i think bale is just tired of being out acted in these movies.
