THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' Tom Hardy Shares His First Time Meeting Batman

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' Tom Hardy Shares His First Time Meeting Batman

Tom Hardy who is playing the main villain, Bane, in The Dark Knight Rises was on the Jonathan Ross Show, and he opened up about meeting Christian Bale for the first time on the set of the film.

"He looked me dead in the eyes and I thought, 'I’m never going to be able to survive the onslaught that is Christian Bale, or Batman.'"

This television interview for the past week has been getting quite a bit of press. Not for The Dark Knight Rises, but for Tom Hardy's reaction to an old clip of the actor that apparently was unflattering.

The clip is from 1998 and features a young Tom Hardy winning a modelling competition on "The Big Breakfast." For about a week the talk has been about Hardy's reaction. You can see that he becomes extremely difficult during the interview. He looks off in the distance, acting as though he is disinterested in whatever Jonathan has to say.

After several minutes, and several apologies, Hardy slowly comes out of his shell and shares a rather amusing story about meeting Christian Bale on the set of Christopher Nolan's last Batman film. Skip to the nine minute mark in the video to listen to just the part about Tom meeting Christian Bale.

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Garly Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

Looking at the chat log, it looks like you were the one starting stuff.

If you can't take people's (overly strong) opinions then you aren't going to like much on this site.

jazzman - 2/12/2012, 2:59 AM

Bane father in the comics is Caucasian

well this goes with captain america costume in The Avengers that look weak as f**k and thats been produce by Marvel Studio themselves.
NeoBaggins - 2/12/2012, 2:59 AM
@TheSpiderAssassin You don't have any "good reasons". You just posted a picture of Bane that no actor or human looks like.

TurboAwesome - 2/12/2012, 3:03 AM
from what I've gathered about Tom Hardy's Bane, the man seems like he'll rip your spine out through your face and frak you in the cornshoot with it in the middle of beating you at chess. and that's all I really want.

I've known people on steroids, and to get the size purists want, you're asking a regular person to go to dangerous levels with that stuff. Tom's Bane is easily enough to break his foot off in most people's butts, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, you know the man is dangerous.
jazzman - 2/12/2012, 3:32 AM

he barely look like Cap in The Avengers. the costume in Cap solo movie is way better then the Avengers costume.
NeoBaggins - 2/12/2012, 3:35 AM
@TheSpiderAssassin You don't seem to mind Spider-man's non Spider-man suit, Naked non-Lizard looking Lizard or non Grey Aunt May. So it seems you're a bullshitter who's just hating.
NeoBaggins - 2/12/2012, 3:50 AM
Oh, you've never seen a Spider-man comic in your life. Makes perfect sense now. I'm sorry I brought it up.

"Aunt May is a aunt not a friggin Granma" lol smh
CraptainAmerica - 2/12/2012, 4:16 AM
What @TurboAwesome said
NeoBaggins - 2/12/2012, 4:20 AM
I know a lot of people think Caps suit is on some candy-ass power ranger shit, but they kept the suit closer to the comics than I would have imagined. It's not the greatsest but I like it minus the downy helmet.
Comix - 2/12/2012, 5:01 AM
Spider Assassin has a point though I mean, I still dont like the suit of Spiderman but anybody can tell that it is spiderman. Cap may look like a power ranger but you can still recognize him as cap. But Bane...just no. He doesnt have the look at all and I doubt he will even have the venom which he is famous for.
Comix - 2/12/2012, 5:03 AM
Thats the guy who will break Batman's back? Yeah what a joke. Also Bane was mexican.....Idk how Nolan got the joker, scarecrow, and two face right but not this guy.
gillri - 2/12/2012, 5:07 AM
thank god we're not getting a pumped up steroid freak speaking a mexican accent

I dont know why people are surprised, nolan universe has always been more real and whereas he isnt as big as I would hoped there was always gonna be a trade off between acting skills and size and in this case acting skills won
Comix - 2/12/2012, 5:10 AM

"thank god we're not getting a pumped steroid freak speaking a mexican accent"

And we're obviously arent getting Bane either
breakUbatman - 2/12/2012, 5:14 AM
Bane is Bane, the mask may not be a Luchadore mask but it's Bane. Out of all of Batman's rogues gallery who else could that be? You'd have to get someone bigger than Schwarzeneger was in his prime to physically match Banes stature. Nolan's Joker didnt have white skin either. All that matters is how good the movie is, Abe Sapien and Liz in Hellboy hardly resemble their characters (both in appearance and character) in the comics but they work for the movies, whereas you can have a spot on Ghost Rider and still end up with a movie like Ghost Rider.

I didnt like the spiderman costume but it has grown on me, hopefully the movie will be this years First Class.
NeoBaggins - 2/12/2012, 5:33 AM
@Comix Nolan got Joker "right"? I've NEVER seen Joker with runny make-up and dirty hair. The Joker is quite dapper. After seeing two films of Nolan's take on Batman, I wasn't surprised or expecting Bane to look like a Mexican wrestler.

It's like thinking the X-MEN were going to all of a sudden wear yellow and blue tights and a Wolverine cowl in X3.

MrReese - 2/12/2012, 5:34 AM
Bane is gonna be as creepy as Batmans laugh XD

NeoBaggins - 2/12/2012, 6:03 AM
@Mort Yeah, you might want to find out what the word "praise" means first.

The offering of grateful homage in words or song, as an act of worship: a hymn of praise to God.

The extolling of a deity or the rendering of homage and gratitude to a deity

To proclaim or describe the glorious attributes of (a deity) with homage and thanksgiving
NeoBaggins - 2/12/2012, 6:11 AM
When did I correct your spelling? lol What are you even talking about?

heisei24 - 2/12/2012, 6:17 AM
wtf is going on here?
HellsHammer - 2/12/2012, 6:31 AM
Umm, Bane isnt Mexican in the comics.I just read the Knightfall saga a couple months ago and he is a white guy. Also I love how people say TDKR looks like shit but did anyone even watch TASM trailer or were they just too busy looking for the Lizard because that trailer wasnt impressive by any means.
GreenHalJordan - 2/12/2012, 6:48 AM
Lol, @Morty
sarahsatire - 2/12/2012, 6:51 AM
What is humorous about this is that you are all going to see TDKR AND The Avengers AND Spider-man regardless of who you're hating on.

But fan wars are always fun, so carry on.
MrReese - 2/12/2012, 6:54 AM
^^^^^^ WIN XD
HAQ - 2/12/2012, 7:02 AM
Wow, Hardy's f*ckin' small... curious how they'll cover it up in TDKR.
Supes17 - 2/12/2012, 7:05 AM
WTF MORTY, I already bought your IMAX ticket... I was going to surprise you :(

Bane has neer been a Mexican. Why does everyone assume that every Spanish-speaking character is Mexican? He's from some made up South American country. If I were to randomnly choose, I'd say Columbia or Honduras. He's not even fully hispanic, his father was white
xXkryptoniteXx - 2/12/2012, 7:09 AM
When the movie comes out all the comic artist and also the artist designing for tv shows well inspire from nolan's take on bane one way or another. Bane is suppose to be this hulk looking guy but regardless on it when the movie is successful it's easy to overlook that. I like his grounded take because when I was watching dark knight and batman begins it's entertaining because I didn't considered it as a superhero movie but a great crime thriller movie.
sarahsatire - 2/12/2012, 7:11 AM

So... 10 year olds have more common sense than you? ;)

And whether or not you will be "paying" to see it, you will still see it. If you want to demonstrate real conviction, abstain from it completely. Yes, even that free grainy, shaky bootlegged version you must eagerly be looking forward to.
Supes17 - 2/12/2012, 7:12 AM
I understand where you're coming from, but height in action movies is not that important
Tom Cruise- Looks 6'1 in his Mission:Impossible films
Actual Height- 5'7"
xXkryptoniteXx - 2/12/2012, 7:13 AM
Also the way bane talk sounds very menacing and I can't wait for the movie to see the final project, it better be better then batman begins or the same level as the dark knight. Since there's always a trilogy curse in films.
NeoBaggins - 2/12/2012, 7:15 AM
"I will not be paying to see TDKR, so I must be the exception to the rule."-Morty

Why not?

"But I'd like to create some healthy discussion about the Dark Knight.
I will start by saying it is in my top 5 favorite films ever."

Oh, I get it. YOU'RE A LIAR!
Supes17 - 2/12/2012, 7:17 AM
Don't worry, I'll give you a Bane mask to conceal your identity. I'll be Batman, and MarvelWiener will be Joker:P

I won't fap, I promise. Thats why Ill bring my girl. Whenever I get excited Ill look her in the eye and say "Now" hahaha
thewonderer - 2/12/2012, 7:18 AM
Man [frick] this website and its comment section

I look forward to Avengers and Spiderman...but you assholes with your fanboys have made me resent those films

Supes17 - 2/12/2012, 7:18 AM
