Tom Hardy Talks THE DARK KNIGHT RISES; Says He's Not Thinking Of Potential Oscar Nomination

The actor comments on how lucky he feels to be playing the villainous Bane in The Dark Knight Rises but reveals that he has far more grounded aspirations than winning any awards.

"Batman is such an amazing franchise that I honestly feel overwhelmingly privileged to be a part of it," the actor told The Mirror in a recent interview. "It’s such an amazing cast to work alongside, they are all so talented. I loved being able to play a baddie and, coming from East Sheen in South-West London, that doesn’t come easily to me. I actually had to work on not being very nice. I’m genuinely a nice guy."

The paper go on to say that the actor isn't currently thinking of any "Oscars glory" (Heath Ledger won several posthumous awards for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight) as he has his sights set on far more down to Earth matters. "I’m not even thinking about how it’s going to blow up for me after Batman. I’m just going to enjoy it and I’m still going to be buying a pint of milk by myself at the corner shop." He added: "My aim is to get an allotment. But where I live they are very selective about who they give one to, so even when I get to Michael Caine levels of acting I may not be able to have one."

superbatspiderman - 1/7/2012, 5:04 PM
I don't know if Hardy will get a nomination for his role but I have high hopes that the movie will get the nomination.
shadyginzo - 1/7/2012, 5:04 PM
^exactly what I was thinking^
shadyginzo - 1/7/2012, 5:12 PM
lol maybe a "foreign language" award
MrReese - 1/7/2012, 5:12 PM
Tom will OWN as Bane!!!
antonio - 1/7/2012, 5:13 PM
He should have gotten an Oscar nom for Bronson, Imo.
shadyginzo - 1/7/2012, 5:15 PM
agreed Antonio.
ManofSteel23 - 1/7/2012, 5:17 PM
Way to go with the confidence of your character in the film,is it that bad
RorMachine - 1/7/2012, 5:18 PM
Ruka, good thing the article is about how he ISN'T expecting a nomination then isn't it?
Lawliet - 1/7/2012, 5:20 PM
This Movie deserves a better class actors, and i give it a Dawn..
WinterSoldier - 1/7/2012, 5:30 PM
Im a little worried about how this movie will be reviewed by critics if people all around are going to have a hard time understanding him. Hopefully im wrong though
spiderneil - 1/7/2012, 5:31 PM
hard to pick up an oscar when no one can understand what the **** you are saying.
spiderneil - 1/7/2012, 5:33 PM
nolan not redubbing the voice is a HUGE mistake.
Ranger14 - 1/7/2012, 5:35 PM
Understandable or not, I think it will be hard for him to win a nomination when his face is pretty much covered and his voice is altered to a degree by production effects.
redleaf - 1/7/2012, 5:48 PM
lots of good acting don't get oscar nominations so who cares.

"to be nominated, people have to understand what you say"

javier bardem thinks you're stupid.
spiderneil - 1/7/2012, 5:50 PM
batman - grhh grhh!
bane - mmph mmph!
HellsHammer - 1/7/2012, 5:53 PM
Umm, I can understand Bane fine. I guess that throws peoples theory that 'No one can understand Banes voice' out the window.
redleaf - 1/7/2012, 5:57 PM
Try harder trolls. TDKR is going to own the BO like a BOSS.
Ranger14 - 1/7/2012, 6:01 PM
redleaf@ I don't think anyone has said it isn't going to own the box office. It should inherently own the box office based on being the conclusion of a successful trilogy. Owning the box office is simply that. It doesn't mean the film isn't going to have its flaws. I am a big Batman fan, but I also keep grounded in reality as well.
DioFoRio - 1/7/2012, 6:01 PM
tom hardy for wolverine
MovieMann - 1/7/2012, 6:05 PM
In the words of that MTV movie blog guy regarding Nolan
"He made a movie that was in reverse chronological order that was f[ri]cking awesome; he made a movie that was set in like 7 layers of the mind that was f[ricking awesome; he made two batman movies that were f[ri]cking awesome; everybody chill out, Nolan's got this."
AUSSYACE - 1/7/2012, 6:08 PM
Can anyone work out why and what the reason is for Bane to be wearing a mask that covers his nose and mouth in the first place ???
Gambitz - 1/7/2012, 6:08 PM
Anyone who says they can't understand him needs their hearing checked.
BLACKTHORN - 1/7/2012, 6:15 PM
the academy is going to ignore this film, although it will probably get a 90% in RT
antonio - 1/7/2012, 6:20 PM
@Blackthorn TDK got a 94% and got 8 nominations with 2 wins.
HellsHammer - 1/7/2012, 6:21 PM
in denial? how so? not my fault I can understand him and you cant. I think your just looking for a reason to bash the film, but oh well. If you really cant understand him you can always wait for the DVD and watch it with subtitles.
Gambitz - 1/7/2012, 6:21 PM
Denial? Yeah ok.
40oz - 1/7/2012, 6:22 PM
Hardy owned in Warrior, he owned in Bronson, he will own as Bane, and if you can't understand him your a frickin tool
redleaf - 1/7/2012, 6:23 PM
Yeah, you have to compare TDKR to TDK and BB instead of any other CBM, LOL. How about you compare TDRK to other CBMs and see which has more flaws.

The reality is Nolan's movies have been a success. Fanboys whining over a character's voice or height isn't even a real movie flaw. It's a fanboy flaw. Did critics trash TDK because of Batman's voice? Nope. Pop culture only jokes about it because the movie was a success. Only fanboys take it seriously enough to think it ruins a movie. Everyone else just watches the movie for what it is.
GodzillaKart - 1/7/2012, 6:24 PM
Hardy will be fantastic as Bane.

Bale will still suck as Batman.
HellsHammer - 1/7/2012, 6:25 PM
well said.
antonio - 1/7/2012, 6:31 PM
@Redleaf took the words out of my mouth.
MovieMann - 1/7/2012, 6:35 PM

Couldn't have said it better myself
Ranger14 - 1/7/2012, 6:35 PM
Hmmm...I don't recall my saying a character's voice or size is a flaw. I made a simple statement that Box Office has nothing to do with whether a film has flaws. I also never said this was going to be a bad movie. Just saying that people pay money to see less-than-great movies so you can't use box-office to judge a movie's quality.
marvel72 - 1/7/2012, 6:47 PM
the only one who deserves an oscar is gary oldman, the best performance in all the batman films.
PaulRom - 1/7/2012, 6:47 PM
@redleaf Exactly. The same could be said for Bane using a different mask and Catwoman not looking as catlike as her comic counterpart. Critics don't mind the changes, but some fanboys take this stuff too seriously.
And I can understand most of what I've heard Bane say so far without subtitles. And I'm not even in denial.
PaulRom - 1/7/2012, 6:49 PM
And I agree that Gary Oldman needs an Oscar for his performance, hell he could use one for most of his performances (fingers crossed he gets something for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).
thalidomide - 1/7/2012, 6:49 PM
WTF Why can't I see my comment?!??!
DCnerd46 - 1/7/2012, 6:56 PM
Not liking the new Bane. At all. Hollywood keeps screwing up w/ the character.
ArrowToTheKnee - 1/7/2012, 7:05 PM
@Hellbound is just mad because he's beginning to realise that a popcorn flick like Avengers could never stand up to TDKR.

If you really hate TDKR then why would you even bother to read news articles about it?

[frick]ing Marvelite hypocrite.
