My Thoughts Concerning The Dark Knight Rises PART II

My Thoughts Concerning The Dark Knight Rises PART II

A continuation on my thoughts of the themes and parallels between Batman Begins and TDKR with the inclusion of the recent spoilers.

With the latest spoilers coming from Badassdigest and Jett’s (from Batman-on-Film) confirmation of said spoilers, I thought I would add to my first article regarding the themes and possible parallels in the Nolan-verse Batman trilogy.

I believe these spoilers could very well work into the basic storyline that I mentioned in my first article.

First, the involvement of Catwoman and her possible alliance with Batman by the film’s 3rd Act. Badassdigest’s source did not mention Catwoman’s role in the beginning. This is where I think my theory (and the theory of other like-minded fans) of Catwoman’s involvement with the mob comes into play.

It is quite possible that Selina Kyle is a relative of one of the major crime families of Gotham City. She could very well be her family’s very own vigilante; seeking to restore the former glory of her family. This end she could achieve through various means (mostly through theft, I presume). Kyle would have some animosity towards Batman (for obvious reasons) but I presume that she would rather do her Catwoman job without a direct confrontation with Batman.

Now what would possibly turn Catwoman into one of Batman’s allies against the League of Shadows? How about when Catwoman learns that the League of Shadows has more to do with her family’s demise than Batman. It was the League of Shadows that infiltrated the mob (and local government) in Batman Begins. It was the League of Shadows that nearly destroyed Gotham City with the fear toxin.

This theory could very well work on film and allow for a temporary alliance between Catwoman and Batman without either of them jeopardizing their roles on opposites sides of the law (Catwoman working for organized crime and Batman fighting against crime).

Now, what about the possible inclusion of Talia al Ghul? This would work perfectly with my theory that the third film in a trilogy mirrors aspects of the first film. Ra’s al Ghul and the League were the villains of the first film and it seems quite poetic to have Talia and the surviving League as villains in TDKR.

My theory is that deception will still be a big key to the al Ghul family and the League. It is quite possible that the second female lead (the supposed “love interest” of Bruce Wayne) could be Talia posing as someone else. Talia could very well be Bane’s true lover but she could very well be getting close to Bruce in order to crush her from both sides (both as the man Bruce Wayne and have Bane crush the symbol Batman). Both Talia and Bane could very well have alias’, Talia as a love interest and Bane as a member of the Batman task force.

I know this is all speculative but I feel that it is worth mentioning and definitely worth discussing. Again, we won’t really know for sure until we actually see the film.

*In the second to last paragraph, I meant "she could very well be getting close to Bruce in order to crush HIM from both sides".

I agree with pretty much all of your points. I also think that JGL's part is probably Alberto Falcone, not Black Mask or anyone like that. The Falcone's have a connection to the League in the movies, since Carmine was working for Ras in Begins, and Selina has ties to the Falcones in the comics.

I like your theories Marxman, and I agree with you on the mirroring aspects that Batman Begins and TDKR will most likely have. My thoughts, like yours, are that Bane and Talia will crush Bruce/Batman from both sides of his persona. Bane will literally break Batman to the point where he has to stop being Batman, this will make Bruce vulnerable and, after seeing this "love interest" through the first and second act, it will be revealed that she is none other than Talia al Ghul, crushing Bruce's heart! That's when Selina steps in and offers her help against the League, Bruce reluctantly accepting, and then they both take on the League. Thereby, Catwoman/ Selina would help Bruce reach the revelation that he is Batman; he'll always be Batman; and, wanting to help Bruce/Batman redeem himself but still be a bit of a criminal from time to time, Selina gives Batman all the credit for the defeat of The League of Shadows, Batman's triumph is made public to the Gothamites. Batman is finally recognized as a hero, allowing Commissioner Gordon to set up a new Bat-Signal and make his friendship with the Batman public knowledge. Alfred tells Bruce that one day he's going to need help carrying the burden of having to save Gotham (just as he needed Selina's help) Bruce tells Alfred that it'll be a while before he ever considers having a "partner." Then the movie ends in a similar fashion to Batman Begins, as Batman and Commissioner Gordon exchange dialogue on top of GCPD HQ, Gordon thanking Batman for all he's done for the city and giving Batman a new tip (possibly hinting at the Riddler?), Batman smiling and, instead of gliding down into the camera, jumps into his new Bat-Wing, and flies over Gotham. We see some quick shots of Gordon smiling as Batman flies away, Selina on top of a building in her Catwoman suit nodding as she watches him fly over the city, and Lucious Fox laughing heartily as the Bat Wing passes by Wayne Industries. Finally, the Bat-Wing flies directly into the camera, and we cut to the credits. Sorry, I went a bit off track there, but I was just getting into it. There's so many different ways Nolan and co. could do this, it makes me so excited!

@earzmundo: It's easier to speculate for sequels because there is already certain elements and a story set-up. People also stop doing these things once a trailer comes out. By then they have switched their focus to predicting how good they think the film will be. Since this is the only sequel that is coming out in the next two years (not sure if Ghost Rider is a sequel) we already haven't seen a trailer for.

i love your points, but don't think that tali al guhl will be the love interest or not even in the movie. instead catwoman and bane play bigger parts in this movie. That's how all of the villians in Nolan's movies have been. The two villians are the main ones. Everyone else is a side. To me this needs two villians with Holiday in the mix. Though, if tali is in this film. Then who the hell knows.

All good points although fairly obvious I would have thought.

One thing however, Bane can't be hired as a leader of some Task Force. His a villain in the truest sense, not some misguided Law-man.

Get him on his own agenda i.e targeting the Bat that haunted his dreams as a child growing up in a hellish prison. That background story is great, why tamper with it?
