The Dark Knight Rises opened to $4.5 million on Monday when it made its big screen debut in China. There had been doubts as to whether the movie would open at all in the build up to its release, but now it can lay claim to beating all of the previous Harry Potter movies (except the 3D finale), making it Warner Bros. highest 2D opening in the Country.
The movie should now definitely reach that $1 billion mark over the next couple of weeks, or perhaps even sooner if it holds strong, as it now sits on $940 million worldwide. As we reported previously, The Amazing Spider-Man also premiered last night, but the figures are not in for that yet. We will update as soon as they are and we can see if the Spider can beat the Bat on opening night
And here's that update! According to Variety, The Amazing Spider-Man made $5.46m in its Chinese bow, beating The Dark Knight Rises' $4.5m.
