IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that The Dark Knight Rises has passed the $100 million global box office mark in 557 IMAX theatres worldwide after its 7th week of release. As of Sept. 3, 2012, the film reached a total of $65.1 million from 332 IMAX screens domestically and $37.3 million from 225 IMAX screens internationally. These figures include box office receipts from China, which began playing the film on Aug. 27 in 75 IMAX theatres. The Dark Knight Rises represents the second IMAX DMR film to cross this milestone, after Avatar.

The Dark Knight Rises: The IMAX Experience is still playing in IMAX theatres worldwide. For theatre locations and showtimes visit www.imax.com/theatres.

While making the 2008 blockbuster The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan was the first filmmaker to use IMAX cameras in a major motion picture release. Nolan employed the extremely high-resolution cameras even more extensively on The Dark Knight Rises: The IMAX Experience —including the film's prologue — incorporating a record of more than an hour of footage filmed with IMAX cameras. These specific sequences, which expand to fill the entire screen exclusively in IMAX, deliver unprecedented crispness and clarity and a truly immersive experience for moviegoers.

Sequences filmed in 35mm have been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Good to hear that it is doing well at the box office, but it won't make it a better movie.

Equivocal - 9/4/2012, 1:22 PM

CaptainObvious - 9/4/2012, 1:30 PM

Boogie138 - 9/4/2012, 1:34 PM

Maximus101 - 9/4/2012, 1:48 PM
@equivicol you do realize avengers had IMAX as well right? Lol and 3d and 2d...
TrueRedBlue - 9/4/2012, 1:51 PM
SUCH a great film. One of the most intense experiences I've ever had in the theater.
AsianVersionOfET - 9/4/2012, 1:51 PM
Seeing this in IMAX opening day was the greatest cinema-going experience I've had yet.
Maxi91291 - 9/4/2012, 1:52 PM
@MrEko

now those were some hips and legs
Maximus101 - 9/4/2012, 1:58 PM
@thestarspangledman how was TDKR a massive dissapointment when it's past the billion dollar mark and with the very positive reviews it has got on every critic website?
AmericanPsychoWolf - 9/4/2012, 2:04 PM
People can say TDKR was a disappointment that's their opinion, I can say The Avengers had way too many one liners that made me scratch my head that's my opinion.
UrbanKnight - 9/4/2012, 2:09 PM
100 million in a few hundred screens!?? Epic, congrats Batman.
UrbanKnight - 9/4/2012, 2:17 PM
I did my part saw it again for the 3rd time in Imax yesterday with my mom and one of my brothers.
*thumbs up*

@TheBigBoss917 *puff puff passes*

@MrEko Lovely curves. That was the loss of innocence for many kids during the 90s. lol
Maximus101 - 9/4/2012, 2:17 PM
@starspangledman you do realize rotten tomatoes is the only site where the avengers has higher reviews than TDKR right? Lol so RT-87%, IMDB-8.9/10 and meta critic- 78% those aren't positive reviews? Lol you must be high or delusional. I'm not just say thing this to start shit but I went to see the avengers with 8 other people and only two left saying they loved it so... I don't have anything better to do right now that's why I'm on here lol clearly you don't either.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/4/2012, 2:19 PM
I saw it in IMAX and I gotta say, even if you didn't like the film, it is still worth it because it looks amazing in IMAX
TheFox - 9/4/2012, 2:27 PM
Nice! This is the only film I've ever seen in IMAX, and it was eighteen dollars well spent: the scope was amazing, the picture quality was crystal clear, and I could feel the bass moments on the soundtrack reverberating in my chest! If any movie deserves to be the second-highest earning film in the format, it's this one.

ACira - 9/4/2012, 2:27 PM
First time I saw it it was in IMAX, and looked stunning. However, I was disappointed by the story. I watched it again about a month later, on a regular screen, and while the image wasn't good, I was far more accepting of the movie overall than when I first saw it.
GoILL - 9/4/2012, 2:28 PM
@MrEko

Good shit on the pics dude.
Maximus101 - 9/4/2012, 2:34 PM
@starspangledman I'm sorry your right you didn't say every site. I'm not gonna sit here and lie nd say the avengers was shitty cause it obviously is a good movie with the reviews and money it has made but my personal opinion is that it wasn't all that special just like you say TDKR was a dissapointment. We are all critics
Maximus101 - 9/4/2012, 2:36 PM
@starspangledman wht other sites have reviews then? Cause the other two sites have higher reviews than rotten tomateo so it doesn't make sense that it would be lower than the avengers. And I didn't report you, I don't report people on here I just tell them off.
95 - 9/4/2012, 2:40 PM
Yes. Rises was my best cinematic experiences, ever.
Maximus101 - 9/4/2012, 2:42 PM
@RR88 hahahaha that's what I'm talking about
ComicBookSon - 9/4/2012, 2:43 PM
TheStarSpangledMan
Don't mean to bud in but in what way was Rises a MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT if it has positive reviews everywhere?
Ghostfire - 9/4/2012, 2:58 PM
One of the best summers in ages. I ain't complaining. I had a [frick]in' blast and I wish we would get summers like this one a lot more.

Oh and this whole RT that Metacritic that. Well all those websites suck, some of you guys keep saying the audience has spoken, well if that's the case, then check out cinemascore.com. Cinemascore is what the general audience thought of the movie. Thought some of you might want to know.
marvel72 - 9/4/2012, 2:58 PM
my nearest imax is 38 miles away,so i would of probably seen it in imax if it was closer.

but normal size screen was fine,if you ain't got something you don't really miss it.
Maxi91291 - 9/4/2012, 3:03 PM
@Ghost

do I have to subscribe to search for movies other than recent releases ?
Maxi91291 - 9/4/2012, 3:04 PM

Ghostfire - 9/4/2012, 3:08 PM
@Maxi
Unfortunately you do. But if you check the website after the movie is released, you can see the score. I just check the weekend after the film comes out.
Maxi91291 - 9/4/2012, 3:09 PM
Oh alright
Maximus101 - 9/4/2012, 3:10 PM
@RR88 I did report him too, I don't report if it's someone's opinion but when it's something like he said, I will.

Anyways this movies was unbelievable at the IMAX, I was stunned and amazed at the same time cause it was the first movie I had seen at the IMAX that was properly filmed in IMAX quality. TDKR= EPIC
Maximus101 - 9/4/2012, 3:11 PM
@marvel72 my closest IMAX theater is exactly that far from me and I made the effort to drive to see it there twice lol if your gonna do it, do it right is what I say lol
Ghostfire - 9/4/2012, 3:16 PM
I have 4 IMAX's 20 mins away from me, so I'm blessed.
KingG - 9/4/2012, 3:17 PM
