Bryan Cranston Talks Lex Luthor In BATMAN VS SUPERMAN

The fan favourite for Superman's bald headed bad guy has broken his silence on the role! Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston has revealed his views on playing the iconic villain and how close he was to the role. Hit the jump to check it out!

Bryan Cranston, the man seen by most fans as THE man to play Lex Luthor on screen, has finally spoken about the role. In an interview this morning on The Howard Stern Show the Breaking Bad star revealed that while he would have loved to play the villain, he was never asked to do so.
When asked about the rumours he had this to say:
In the minds of fans, it's true, in the minds of the hierarchy of Warner Brothers, it's not true. I was not involved in any of that whatsoever.

When asked about how the role would have effected his career, he described it as, "a twenty, it's a life changing role", one that he'd have loved to take on.

Thanks to CBM's Brainiac3000 for the source! What do you think? Should Warner Bros. have offered Cranston the role? Or was Jesse Eisenberg the right choice? Sign off your thoughts on the news below!

"would have loved to play the villain, he was never asked to do so"

SaxoWolf - 3/4/2014, 8:54 AM
Maybe he could play Mr Freeze in a future Batman movie. Or Comissioner Gordon
ForeverPowerful - 3/4/2014, 8:55 AM
What could have been...what could have been...
Pasto - 3/4/2014, 8:56 AM

Would've loved it? Didn't have to look far to see many others shared the same feeling :P Guess he was too old for their version, which is a shame

Think Eisenberg will be fine, just not the sort of Lex anyone expected/wanted...was a bit underwhelming considering many of the great names being rumoured...
charlie2094 - 3/4/2014, 9:01 AM
Be great to see him as some sort of DC villain, maybe someone like Hugo Strange...needs to play such a person! :P

That'd be pretty amazing...don't see it happening, but be cool to see :P
Pasto - 3/4/2014, 9:02 AM
Ciph, how'd you get me resume?
anthonyEstark - 3/4/2014, 9:03 AM
This man should've been Lex!

SuperCat - 3/4/2014, 9:04 AM
Should have been you, Cranston.

Klone - 3/4/2014, 9:04 AM
Make him Gordon.
Klone - 3/4/2014, 9:05 AM
Walt in Season One even resembles Gordon in some ways. If you intentionally try to make Cranston look like Gordon I reckon he would nail it.
DelTorite - 3/4/2014, 9:05 AM
Just watch Marvel getting him a role lol.
cipher - 3/4/2014, 9:07 AM
Pasties- Well, I was gonna throw it out until I read that you "killed a hawk with a ninja star".

That's some badass shit. I'll let you throw a few at my neighbour's dogs.
DEVLIN712 - 3/4/2014, 9:09 AM
You know Pasto was aiming at something in the opposite direction and missed, right? The hawk was just in the wrong place at the wrong time
Pasto - 3/4/2014, 9:09 AM
I am skilled in many areas Ciph. I am a ninja after all.
Pasto - 3/4/2014, 9:09 AM
Shut up Dev, you don't know nothin.
theInvincibleMexiMan - 3/4/2014, 9:16 AM
I'd love to see him get the role of Gordon. He'd be perfect.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 3/4/2014, 9:16 AM
[DC/WB titanic] Fans everywhere: "Bloody Hell!! Eisenberg dead ahead! Abandon ship chaps, abandon ship!"
Rulk - 3/4/2014, 9:19 AM
He would have been perfect as Lex in my opinion. That guy was soo intense in Breaking Bad!
GliderMan - 3/4/2014, 9:19 AM
Tainted87 - 3/4/2014, 9:20 AM
The way he puts himself out there these days, I think he just wants to land in a memorable movie, not just be the only thing anyone remembers from it. He could have been a great Lex.
Enphlieuwince - 3/4/2014, 9:20 AM
Lmao @ Gusto! I'd hate to know what you did with the mashed potatoes...

Yeah, Cranston wasn't even considered? That hurts but he's still available for Gordon, which I'd much rather see him do. I do believe he was too old but considering how things turned out... Only time will tell how smart of a decision it was.
fortycals - 3/4/2014, 9:21 AM
I once nailed an opossum to the inside of my trashcan from my third story Window, with a crossbow bolt. The trash man had an awesome surprise the next morning cause it was still living.

I know him being involved wad bullshit , soon as they announced Jessie. They were looking for the complete opposite of Cranston.
Spidey10 - 3/4/2014, 9:23 AM
Half of what makes the Eisenburg shit so bad is having genuinely brilliant picks dangled in front of us only to get the ultimate Rick Roll

My thoughts exactly Omega
Danbojohnj - 3/4/2014, 9:24 AM
Comish Gordon please WB.
Rulk - 3/4/2014, 9:24 AM

Spidey10 - 3/4/2014, 9:24 AM
Next were going to hear that Christain Bale wanted to come back but he didn't fit their vision
KentParker - 3/4/2014, 9:25 AM
For these reason DC have only 2 good superhero movies in 40 years, SUPERMAN and TDK.
HBarnill - 3/4/2014, 9:26 AM
I'm glad he wasn't considered. It would be too obvious. I don't want him to be type cast.
DCfan638 - 3/4/2014, 9:27 AM
I think Phoenix would have been perfect, but Eisenberg will deliver a very fresh, new take on the character that neither readers nor gen audience have seen before. I think this is what Luthor needs right now. Lex Luthor: Man of Steel was a very relatable and humanizing take I hope they consider.

In All-Star Superman, I love:

  • How they show him working out (his ambition is to be the true modern Renaissance man, it only makes sense),

  • The scene where he fakes his death (it was perfect, and fits the character), and

  • How they show a Lex hideout with his costumes through the years

Snyder likes paying homage to the history of his DC characters, so even though Eisenberg is playing Luthor, I hope they incorporate some of these elements in there.
TheGreenRanger - 3/4/2014, 9:29 AM
There would have been no better Lex than Cranston himself.... I feel so bummed everytime I think about it...
Nomis - 3/4/2014, 9:30 AM
Since he's (unfortuantley) not gonig being Lex the next logically role is Commisoner Gordon.

JediPhilosopher - 3/4/2014, 9:30 AM
He's too old. Eisenberg is too young and doesn't look right for Lex.
TheCipherSpectre - 3/4/2014, 9:31 AM
Evening mates!

Just a little dead and tipsy that's all.
DCfan638 - 3/4/2014, 9:31 AM
Cranston as Gordan would be cool too, but considering the Gotham show, I don't know how many different versions they want of each Batman character out there. Alfred and Batman are essential to this movie, but Gordan?
... I don't know, I might just being a killjoy.
Brainiac13 - 3/4/2014, 9:31 AM

Love those CVs.
DCfan638 - 3/4/2014, 9:32 AM
Glad we can come to terms on something, Netman
