Marvel will reveal plans for their 2014 movie at their SDCC panel today. It is expected to be GOTG, but Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito also teases another movie that was rumored first - Black Panther..

MTV caught up with Louis D'Esposito at Comic-Con and asked him about the mysterious 2014 Marvel movie that is going to be announced in Hall H later today. It is widely believed to be Guardians Of The Galaxy, but there have also been rumors of it being Black Panther - or perhaps it'll be none of the above! D'Esposito wouldn't reveal it outright of course, but he did explain the reasoning behind choosing the character(s) they have selected, saying ""It can always be an "Iron Man," "Thor" and "Cap". We need to grow from there.". MTV then asked him about both potential movies, and he definitely hints that either are possibilities, while suggesting GOTG might be a while away, and Black Panther comes with a few difficulties in adaptation.

On Guardians Of The Galaxy..

"That would be Marvel in space," he said. "That's a great concept and a great idea, and potentially one of our films in the future."

On Black Panther..

"He has a lot of the same characteristics of a Captain America: great character, good values," said the Marvel exec. "But it's a little more difficult, maybe, creating [a world like Wakanda]. It's always easier basing it here. For instance, 'Iron Man 3' is rooted right here in Los Angeles and New York. When you bring in other worlds, you're always faced with those difficulties."

Hmmm. Could neither one be the mystery 2014 movie after all? D'Esposito also says that Marvel may possibly consider trying to produce three movies a year instead of their usual two, so it may be even be both! (note: It won't be both) All will be revealed soon.

[frick] THAT
DioFoRio - 7/14/2012, 1:19 PM
Keep Black Panther in Africa. What's the point if he's from L.A.?
HULK2099 - 7/14/2012, 1:19 PM
If you can do Asgard, you can do Wakanda seriously make this black panther movie!
DioFoRio - 7/14/2012, 1:19 PM
Oh and you can re-create "ASGARD" but not Afrika? wtf?!
DioFoRio - 7/14/2012, 1:19 PM
What Hulk said
Asterisk - 7/14/2012, 1:30 PM
It better be in Wakanda.
musashi - 7/14/2012, 1:30 PM
Agreed. Wakanda seems easier than Asgard or Space. That's lame, it sounds like hes justifying not making Black Panther! Black Panther FTW!
JordanKing - 7/14/2012, 1:38 PM
Hm, by the sounds of it, it's not looking to be GotG at all for 2014. I'm guessing it's Ant-Man now.
DioFoRio - 7/14/2012, 1:40 PM
there needs to be some diversity in the comic movie medium. How awesome would it be to have a cool Black Panther or Luke Cage flick? Getting sick of all the white bread.
jessepostal - 7/14/2012, 1:43 PM
He didn't say it wasn't gonna be in wakkanda, obviously it will be, he said its gonna be more difficult compared to a place that already exists
Nubase - 7/14/2012, 1:50 PM
CaptainObvious - 7/14/2012, 1:51 PM
You cannot do a Black Panther movie not set in Wakanda. That's like trying to do a Thor movie not set in Asgard. It doesn't work.
DioFoRio - 7/14/2012, 1:53 PM
@jessepostal.... it sounds as if they want to make it in the USA ala Coming to America. It's as if what he's saying is preparing us for it NOT to be set in Wakanda.
OriginalGuardiansPlease - 7/14/2012, 1:57 PM
Guardians of the galaxy has the potential making of a Star Wars with superheroes if done right....
I hope the first movie includes members from both point in limiting yourself to members from one team or the other...there has been a ton of interesting members throughout the years.

I would have a team with Vance Astro, Rocket Racoon, Star-Lord, Starhawk/Aleta, Nikki, Moondragon, and Drax.
I would leave Groot/Adam Warlock/Nova, etc for a sequel

like the guardians on facebook:
gambgel - 7/14/2012, 1:57 PM
so is difficult to set movies in other words....

isnt that part of what sci-fi movies are supposed to do?

and part of the creative team work?

Marvel did Thor, James Cameron did Avatar, and the list could go on and on.
BlackCat1 - 7/14/2012, 1:58 PM
Bring on the Black Panther
superotherside - 7/14/2012, 1:58 PM
Ant-Man? If so bring it on! They need to do Black Panther and GOTG soon though. :)
BrowniesExplode - 7/14/2012, 1:59 PM
I hate that he said that but with gotg and asgard their adding imagination but wakanda cant be hard just have good actors, good script and good villian and boom you have a great film
AnonymousGuy - 7/14/2012, 2:01 PM
How is making Wakanda more difficult than making Asgard?
SkateandDestroy88 - 7/14/2012, 2:03 PM
If they make a black panther movie I'll be so stoked
OhGawDuhhh - 7/14/2012, 2:04 PM
Black Panther would be so badass!!

They should pull a 'Ultimate Avengers 2' and establish Wakanda as a fiercely private, isolationist sovereign nation. Tie it into Captain America's past.

We already got a loaded gun in the form of that teaser on the S.H.I.E.L.D. map in 'Iron Man 2'. It's time to pull the trigger!!!

95 - 7/14/2012, 2:05 PM
Kevin Feige, can you talk for your Marvel executive pals. Marvel's creative team make the unlikely work.
datNAMEtho - 7/14/2012, 2:07 PM
Pff "other difficulties" just shoot the movie in Africa, make the Marvel Universe more global! I'd like that!!! IMAX too perhaps? :D
gambgel - 7/14/2012, 2:08 PM
I really liked Ultimate Avengers 2, and how they use the Wakanda world.

Im more interested to see new heroes than sequels to Thor and Cap, so lets hope they dont wait much more time for a Black Panther movie, it can be a baddass Marvel movie, and he is a great character, without doubt. Id love to see Wakanda and all those details, sets, and characters. Would bring something totally new to the Marvel cinematic world.
OhGawDuhhh - 7/14/2012, 2:12 PM
Super Soldier Captain Steve Rogers led the Howling Commandos across Europe in WW2, facing the Red Skull and his Hydra forces, taking on threats that the Allies simply couldn't handle. He saved the world from utter annihilation by sacrificing himself in an act of bravery somewhere in the Arctic Circle and his remains were never recovered. I vaguely remember being taught that in 5th grade History.

Then the movie ended.. but for those 2 hours I BELIEVED IT.

Don't give me that crap that they can't figure out how to translate Black Panther to cinema.
kingshnake - 7/14/2012, 2:14 PM
Its Captain Canuck people
DioFoRio - 7/14/2012, 2:14 PM
@worldbreaker he doesn't say it will be in L.A. But what he does say is that to create that world would be difficult, which in and of itself sounds like he's preparing us for it NOT to be set in Wakanda.
Sparrowsabre7 - 7/14/2012, 2:19 PM
People are jumping on him over a small comment. He said there are difficulties, not that they wouldn't do it. Also remember Thor was only PART in Asgard, the rest was in the US. Black Panther would be 100% Wakanda and creating cgi jungle sets is probably more difficult than cgi buildings because there's an entirely different set of lighting things to worry about. Lay off him, they won't do BP without Wakanda.
gambgel - 7/14/2012, 2:24 PM
I havent watched Apocalypto, but doesnt that movie have a similar tone and sets like how Wakanda is supposed to look?

ancient, majestic, historical looking sets

its not hard to design stuff like that.

much more easier than creating Asgard, something that is futuristic and unrealistic looking.

We have hundreds of years with ancient architecture, so they only have to do some research and design an african empire, close to the comics.

nothing more, nothing less.
IIIAdamantiumIII - 7/14/2012, 2:25 PM
omg just set it in [frick]ing Africa we don't want some hood thug as BP, This IS WHY HOLLYWOOD IS SHIT movies are either set in new-york or L.A. .... I understand characters who are sapose to be in new-york ie spider-man but this is kinda like putting batman in Toronto lol
marccampos - 7/14/2012, 2:28 PM
If they can do Asgard, why not Wakanda? I don´t think that´s so hard to do! Let´s make this black panther movie!

Black Panther is a great character!
SkateandDestroy88 - 7/14/2012, 2:31 PM
Marvel Studios rules. They will deliver some kick ass movies no question. When/if they make a Black Panther movie it kick ass. (And should some scenes from other Marvel Characters. don't know much about guardians of the galaxy but im )sure will be really awesome.
Oxbow - 7/14/2012, 2:31 PM
ahhh the art of talking while not saying glad i don't work for marvel today! as for dc, snyder is the golden boy right now. He's the lead into JL with MOS. Am I missing any other big thing? [email protected]?
FightAs0ne - 7/14/2012, 2:38 PM
Joker08 - 7/14/2012, 2:51 PM
Wait... I thought GotG was already confirmed earlier though for sure?
jazzman - 7/14/2012, 3:08 PM

they fricking made a movie called Thor and he comes from Asgard.

CVTom - 7/14/2012, 3:13 PM
Black Panther movie NOT set in Wakanda = EPIC FAIL!!!

ATrueHero1987 - 7/14/2012, 3:13 PM
Dammit, gotta wait 3 more hours for them to finally reveal their 2014 movie!!
BlackFlash - 7/14/2012, 3:18 PM
I'm starting feel like there never gonna do a Black Panther movie, seriously how can Wakanda be difficult to do.
RamonSuarez - 7/14/2012, 3:32 PM
Black Panther shouldn't just be set in Wakanda.

It should be set all over the globe.

This film has total potential to be international in scope.

Give me Wakanda, the Hague, New York City, Hong Kong, etc.
