Neil Marshall (The Descent) has directed some of Game of Thrones' best episodes, while he's also responsible for the Constantine pilot. In a recent interview, the filmmaker has revealed that if he could have his pick of superhero properties, it would be Black Widow...

Fans have been crying out for Neil Marshall to helm a comic book movie for some time now, especially as he's the man who HBO turns to when it comes to directing some of the biggest and best episodes of Game of Thrones. While he's now flirted with the world of comic book adaptations after working on the Constantine pilot for NBC, it turns out that there's another character he'd like to give their own solo outing. "I think I’d like to do a big movie with a strong female lead, whether or not she would be a superhero," Marshall told Vanity Fair in a recent interview. "I’m more interested in characters like Scarlett Johansson in Lucy. I’m less interested in people with superpowers because I can’t identify with them. Very rarely do they get killed off, and when they do get killed off, chances are they’re going to be back . . . somehow."

So, it sounds like we should definitely count him out when it comes to a big budget superhero movie like a future Thor sequel, but what about directing Scarlett Johansson in a Black Widow spin-off? "Yes, I’d love to do a big splashy movie with a great female lead, but it has to be someone I can believe in. I would love to do a Black Widow movie. That’s perfect, I would love to do that. That character is really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah." Of course, many fans would prefer to see movies featuring characters like Black Panther and Captain Marvel from Marvel Studios before a Black Widow solo outing, but it would still be hard not to be incredibly excited with Marshall at the helm.

Do it!
SageMode - 8/24/2014, 3:44 AM
As much as I like Black Widow, she does have a very rich backstory to hold her own film series.
CherryBomb - 8/24/2014, 3:44 AM
You haven't included the quote about Black Widow!

At first I was uninterested in seeing a BW movie but the more I think about it the more I want it. They could get away with it being a smaller budget and maybe a higher rating since I'm sure most of her fanbase are older than the general Marvel fans.

ManDeth - 8/24/2014, 3:50 AM
Black Widow blew her shot at Cap's virginity in TWS. I guess Peggy is up next in Avengers 2.

Demiurge - 8/24/2014, 3:50 AM
I'd like a Black Widow/Maria Hill team-up movie. And since Feige listens to me (obviously :-p), he'll do it.
Maven - 8/24/2014, 3:51 AM
We don't need one right now. Focus on new additions.

I do feel, however, that Marvel are going to give BW one of those recently-booked dates. Something of a "you earned it" deal/decision. Scarlett really has.
AstonishingArachnid - 8/24/2014, 3:52 AM
A Black Widow origin film that includes the Red Room Academy, the Winter Soldier, her first meeting with Hawkeye, the presence of SHIELD and how she formed a bond with Fury would get my money any day.
kinghulk - 8/24/2014, 3:54 AM
i dont want a black widow movie but if they make one they have to include hawkeye and maybe mockingbird since she will be introduced in agents of shield.
Danbojohnj - 8/24/2014, 3:57 AM
He would do a great Dredd sequel.
SpiderFraud - 8/24/2014, 4:02 AM
Please don't waste a superhero slot on Black Widow.

She is cool in the movies and I would like to see a female lead movie, but not this one.
CherryBomb - 8/24/2014, 4:03 AM
I'd love them to introduce Yelena Belova!

Pasto - 8/24/2014, 4:03 AM
How about we get a Black Panther film instead.
HawkeyeFangirl - 8/24/2014, 4:06 AM
LOOL Good to see the author wasn't biased at all on a Black Widow movie. At least just as many fans want a Black Widow movie as much as a Captain Marvel movie so cut your biased shit.
Jollem - 8/24/2014, 4:07 AM
they should bring her back to how she was in iron man 2. she's getting progressively more valley girl/scarjo with each outing
ProfessorX - 8/24/2014, 4:13 AM
Nobody wants this film. Give us Black Panther or Namor.
CherryBomb - 8/24/2014, 4:13 AM
I always get excited for her hair choices in these movies.
Hoping they go with the Black Widow Bangs for the flashbacks.

TheOverlord - 8/24/2014, 4:13 AM
Marvel, please make more movies.
jimoakley666 - 8/24/2014, 4:18 AM
Me & the wife were watching The Avengers again last night and we were both of the opinion that we couldn't give a shit about a Black Widow solo movie. She works well with others.
staypuffed - 8/24/2014, 4:21 AM
Black Widow One-Shot?
Jollem - 8/24/2014, 4:22 AM
wee wee wee. all the way home
FilmDork1221 - 8/24/2014, 4:27 AM
I'd like to see him direct Thor 3 if Alan Taylor decides not to return
staypuffed - 8/24/2014, 4:34 AM
I'm getting really [frick]ing sick of @TalkinSoftball.
LordDaredevil - 8/24/2014, 4:36 AM
Sorry ScarJo, but there are other female heroes more important than you. No offense. But we need to see Ms. Marvel.
Jollem - 8/24/2014, 4:38 AM
@staypuffed - why? i've read thousands of comments that are shttier and nastier than that
staypuffed - 8/24/2014, 4:47 AM
He seems to spew hatred about every topic. Amy Adams is ugly. Batman v Superman will suck. Black Widow is shit. It goes on and on. Yeah, sure there's worse people than that, but this guy is just irritating me.
BlackHulk - 8/24/2014, 4:48 AM
Knowing Marvel, they would likely do this movie before a Black Panther or Ms. Marvel. Why haven't there been any decent directors come out pushing to direct Black Panther?
staypuffed - 8/24/2014, 4:48 AM
You don't have to like everything, but you don't have to hate everything, either.
Jollem - 8/24/2014, 4:50 AM
@staypuffed - you need to get you a pair of these :)

Jollem - 8/24/2014, 4:51 AM

staypuffed - 8/24/2014, 4:52 AM
Ha! That video is great.
SageMode - 8/24/2014, 4:56 AM
If anything, give BW a one-shot, for a for a full length female-led franchise, go with Carol Danvers/Ms.Marvel/Captain Marvel or whatever they wanna call her
thehendryx - 8/24/2014, 4:56 AM
as hot as Scarlett is, I wouldn't pay or support a Black Widow movie.. She's just not that interesting as a character to me.. Also, she was the one weak link in Cap 2, IMO
FrankGarret - 8/24/2014, 5:02 AM
I haven't seen Lucy but isn't it about a lady who just pulls power out of her ass?
ATrueHero1987 - 8/24/2014, 5:11 AM
I'd like to see him direct a Punisher movie.
CherryBomb - 8/24/2014, 5:17 AM
There's some pretty cool fan posters out there!

Brainiac13 - 8/24/2014, 5:29 AM
A 30 mins one movie.
MightyZeus - 8/24/2014, 5:34 AM
I don't think Black Widow is suited for a film. She's just not really that interesting.

Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) now that's a film that i would pay to see.
Satanistpanther - 8/24/2014, 5:51 AM
[frick] Widow I want Miss Marvel
Tdi7457 - 8/24/2014, 5:52 AM
I think it's too late for a Black Widow movie. They're too deep into expanding and continuing the Universe to backtrack for who is honestly a pretty boring character. Movie wise, that is.

If anything, just spend the movies she's in on developing the character more. I just don't feel there's going to be a solo movie.
homodrome - 8/24/2014, 5:53 AM
Give it to me!!!
