According to BoxOffice.com, Captain America: The Winter Soldier now looks set to beat Thor: The Dark World's $85.7 million domestic debut with an opening weekend of $90+ million. We know from past experience that tracking isn't always reliable, but based on the reviews and positive buzz, these numbers seem extremely realistic. Should it hit this number, the Marvel Studios sequel will beat Fast Five's $86.2 million haul from 2011 to make it the highest April opening of all-time. April has never seen a film debut with over $100 million, but the site believes that based on all the information currently available, this is a very likely possibility for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Based on the success that it's found internationally so far as well, a global tally of more than $500 million also looks like a dead cert, good news for those who have already seen the sequel and are counting down the days until Captain America 3 is release in 2016!
