CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Round-Up: What Is Known About The Plot So Far

CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Round-Up: What Is Known About The Plot So Far

Captain America: The Winter Soldier goes into the Memorial Day weekend with only a few weeks left of principle photography in Cleveland. So let's take a look at what we know about the sequel's plot so far...

Some of the following Captain America: The Winter Soldier informational bullet points may be SPOILERIFIC to those who have not been following the filming of the sequel. Especially since what is being listed are facts (with a tiny bit of speculation and conjecture attached) seen on location, reported from sets and/or interviews with actors. Read on if you dare... you've been warned.

–Marvel Studios has labeled the sequel a "political thriller."

–The setting of the movie is Washington D.C.

–Heroes include: Cap, Black Widow, Falcon, Nick Fury, Maria Hill (though it remains to be seen which side Hill is on), Alexander Pierce (kind of) and Agent 13.

–Villains include: Winter Soldier, Crossbones, Batroc, Alexander Pierce (he's playing both sides) and Arnim Zola.

–Robert Redford is a senior officer in S.H.I.E.L.D. but doesn't appear to be who he really is. Redford let it slip in a recent interview that he is a villain in this film.

–Cap'n is trying to assimilate himself back into modern society and works closely with S.H.I.E.L.D. because he has no where else to go after being found and thawed out and then fighting in the Battle of New York. Working with S.H.I.E.L.D. is pretty much his modern day job now.

–Per some leaked script pages, Steve Rogers meets—and we are introduced to—Sam Wilson a.k.a. the Falcon. Wilson seems to have similarly lost his place in society since coming back from his tour of duty with the military.

–Captain America and the Black Widow are working together and she doesn't seem to like S.H.I.E.L.D. in one scene, as she was seen kicking Agent Sitwell.

–Captain America is sporting a new blue and white suit that appears to closely resemble the suit he wore in the comics at one point.

–Nick Fury seems to have upset the Washington D.C. authorities as they are chasing him down and eventually surround him. Both the police and SWAT shoot up Fury's black SUV badly, yet someone aids in Fury's escape by blowing up two cop cars and a SWAT van. Who Fury's explosive helper is is not yet known.

–There are more car action sequences in Cap 2 than ever seen in past Marvel Studios movies. (This is more conjecture than anything right now, but all the car action in Cleveland seemingly confirms this.)

–There appears to be a death in the movie since a new filming location scoop in Cleveland was confirmed to be in a cemetery. Also, while filming in D.C. there was an unconfirmed report of a funeral scene with actor Garry Shandling. Or it could just be coincidence that filming is in a cemetery and perhaps it's due to the unique landscape of the location at Lakeview Cemetery. UPDATE: Per a report, a dam in the cemetery is being used at this location.

–Arnim Zola has somehow survived the 70 years since he was seen in Captain America: The First Avenger and has a new look to him.

–The comic book story basis for this film appears to take from several story arcs including: Ed Brubaker's Captain America run in the 2000s where he introduces the Winter Soldier, the 80s miniseries Nick Fury vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. and perhaps a little bit of the Secret Avengers.

If any confirmed plot points have been missed, please list them in the comments below and stay tuned to The Daily SuperHero, who is your on location source for Captain America 2 in Cleveland.

Don't forget to say also Crossbone is in the movie.
ruadh - 5/26/2013, 6:14 AM
I don't think he'll die at all. Based on previous experience, I have absolutely no expectations for the films to rigidly follow any comic plots they're borrowing from.

I also don't need him to "die" just to be not really dead, or resurrected. This is a movie, not a comic.
Darkknight23 - 5/26/2013, 6:16 AM
Political Thriller = Political Comedy
figuresmaniac - 5/26/2013, 6:22 AM
Civil War? Do they even have enough Characters?

We need more Winter Soldier photos....
Tempo - 5/26/2013, 6:24 AM
Please please! Marvel don't ruin Cap like Iron Man in the third.

Shane Black: "Iron Man 3 like a Tom Clancy's thriller"...yeah right -_-

But I think IM3 was an isolate case.
jlabatman - 5/26/2013, 6:31 AM
Awesome sounding movie so far, but not liking the Shield stooge costume! And I don't care if you are tired of people bitching about the uniform, I am not digging it at all!
Protocida - 5/26/2013, 6:39 AM

Sitwell and Senator Stern have reportedly been seen doing the "Hail Hydra" salute during their scene together.

I'd hazard that's an important plot point.
hummingbird68 - 5/26/2013, 6:49 AM
@ DarkKnight23, not sure where you are going with that comment, but please re-watch Batman Begins as I just did thirty minutes ago. There are lots of comedy quips and moments, but did not detract from the overall re-imagining and dark feel of a great movie.

Nuff said
csdot - 5/26/2013, 6:54 AM
i dont think Batroc is a "main villain" he was only on set for a week
masterhater - 5/26/2013, 6:59 AM
Why would Marvel kill off one of their biggest names that they haven't sold off the rights to yet?
JoeMomma29 - 5/26/2013, 7:05 AM
Naw Cappy will not die I am pretty confident they are going to fake his death to flush out any double agents!
IgnurRant - 5/26/2013, 7:06 AM

Batman Begins had a quality writer and director, Csptain America has the two dudes from Community. Plus Marvek has been incapable of taking itself seriously post TIH, everything is a joke.
theInvincibleMexiMan - 5/26/2013, 7:07 AM
there is no way Marvel is going to kill off Cap. Thatd just be ridiculous. They arent going to do that to one of the few characters they have already made a franchise out of, Cap sells and assuming they go farther than Phase 3, I'd like to think he still leads the Avengers

Which I hope they dont do Civil War either, at least not right now. They dont have enough heroes.
Marqy - 5/26/2013, 7:17 AM
Nice, my most anticipated phase 2 solo movie. I can almost imagine the first scenes being like the first issue of Brubaker Cap vol5 where he is pushing himself too hard going on a mission after mission ... ahhhh good ol hollywood :)
JoeMomma29 - 5/26/2013, 7:22 AM

What the hell is that? That is freakin hilarious!!!!
JoeMomma29 - 5/26/2013, 7:24 AM
For all those haters who were complaining that Caps did not look buff enough, well Marvel fixed that issue!

TelaVizion - 5/26/2013, 8:35 AM
Hmmm, so will "Project Red Wing" be apart of Falcon's storyline in this movie? In this new Avengers cartoon series, instead of wearing the War Machine armor like JARVIS/Tony suggested, Sam goes to tryout "Project Red Wing". I guess that will be the nod to the name "Red Wing" in the movie
LucasMend - 5/26/2013, 8:35 AM
Maybe the Robert Redford character takes over as shield leader, so nick fury is being hunted by them, and joins cap, widow and falcon?
riseofloganX36 - 5/26/2013, 8:45 AM
everything sounds good i just don't like the suite. I hope he has the one he's been wearing but mebey tweek it like put on the wings on the cowl part.

I want the suit to look like when i was a kid and not that stupid dark blue suit with no mask.

He's not iron man.

NUFF said BUB!
ruadh - 5/26/2013, 8:53 AM

But...he has a mask in this.
AlanWarlock - 5/26/2013, 8:56 AM
"There is more car action sequences in Cap 2 than ever seen in past Marvel Studios movies." Who taught you English?
Negrotigre - 5/26/2013, 9:01 AM
@riseofLoganx36, I totally agree! Have him look like the damn comics!
GodzillaKart - 5/26/2013, 9:16 AM
@McGee: Holy crap! Where did you find that? awesome.
alw - 5/26/2013, 9:17 AM
Think the Robert Redford character will turn out somehow to be Red Skull :)
fullmoonfx - 5/26/2013, 9:25 AM
"Cap'n is trying to assimilate himself back into modern society..." The proper word to use would be aclimate, not assimilate.
MightyZeus - 5/26/2013, 10:09 AM
Everything sounds good except i kind of hope they kill of 'Black Widow'. She's kind of useless.
TelaVizion - 5/26/2013, 11:09 AM
I was just thinking the same thing @alw
Ramiel - 5/26/2013, 11:13 AM
Is it just me, but is every comment that Beatnation makes is about IM3? He must really love that movie if he can't stop talking about.
JustDame - 5/26/2013, 11:48 AM
Redford might be a version if aleksander lukin
TheBeard - 5/26/2013, 12:33 PM
where the hell is Bucky/winter soldier already? Marvel is sure doing one hell of a job keeping him away from the cameras.
TheRationalOne - 5/26/2013, 12:34 PM
The cemetery scene could easily just be a scene where Rogers visits Bucky's grave. It would make sense that in a movie where he is presumed dead but is really a brainwashed villain that at some point they would show Cap's still grieving over his lost friend since its been only maybe a few months since it happened in his mind. It could be a funeral, but I'm calling a grave visit.

Also, Redford could just be playing a "villain" in the sense that he's not a Shield agent that anybody is real fond of. The by the book company man who is always on Fury's case. Maybe he is the one who labels Fury as a threat due to him just being that kind of boss. I'm hoping for the Aleksander Lukin theory tho.
Demongod20 - 5/26/2013, 12:47 PM
@ JoeMomma29

Who let Rob Liefeld into the editing room!?
Scorpion8125 - 5/26/2013, 1:22 PM
I trust Marvel... but.....

I smell too many villains.

I bet Red Skull is lurking in the background somehow. He will be pulling the strings on all these European bad guys.

MercSoul - 5/26/2013, 1:48 PM
maybey nick fury "die" to stop the persuit and in the end is seen alive this would be more nick's style
loki668 - 5/26/2013, 10:29 PM
The funeral scene is for Cap's goldfish. Cap accidentally looked in SHIELD's freezer and discovered the horrible truth of the past seventy years. "YOU SAID HE WAS AT A SPECIAL AQUARIUUUUMMMM!!! I QUIT!!"
Jwe75 - 5/27/2013, 12:32 AM
I wanna see Cap going 1 on 1 with Batroc! let that French taste his shield!

But more i wanna see Black Widow kicking that Shield agent, like in that 1 picture released earlier ;)
EdgyOutsider - 5/27/2013, 2:33 AM
Outside of The Avengers. I have a really good feeling and I really hope that, Captain America gets the best trilogy of the entire MCU.
EdgyOutsider - 5/27/2013, 4:27 PM
IgnurRant: Really? Sure, they've been lighthearted and Iron Man 3 went over board with the humor but, incapable of being serious movies? They're light hearted, action packed, escapist, summer blockbusters. Not to mention, these two scenes show that Marvel is going to a darker and more dramatic route. I believe they'll find the perfect balance.

Point made. Case closed.
NightForce - 5/27/2013, 5:02 PM
Yeah that scene with Pepper falling would have been great and had emotional weight if:
1. She DIED for real instead of getting superpowers and killing the bad guy
2. If there wasn't yet another gag with his suit falling apart 20 seconds later
NillaSoul - 5/28/2013, 12:46 AM
Didn't Batman & Robin try to cram too much graham too? It's always a red flag when there's more then too many villains.
