Poll/SPOILER Discussion: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Marvel's Captain America sequel hit US theaters on Friday, so I'm sure by now the majority of you CBMers have been to see it. Click on to voice your option, vote in our poll, and tell us what you think makes The Winter Soldier such a "game changer"..if you think it was, that is!

There is no question that aside from being an excellent movie overall, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is also something of a game changer when it comes to the MCU. The major talking point being, of course, the dissolution -- with extreme prejudice -- of S.H.I.E.L.D.; which will surely have consequences for all future Marvel movies as well as the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. tv show.

Of course this wasn't the only talking point. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is easily Marvel's most intense, dramatic movie to date. A more serious tone and a dialing back on the...well, silliness of some of their previous efforts means that -- probably for the first time -- we feel that there are actual stakes to the action, and as difficult as Cap may be to take down, we see that he can be hurt -- both physically and emotionally.

Which brings us to The Winter Soldier himself. Despite not getting a whole lot of screen-time, Sgt. James Buchanan Barnes certainly makes an impact, and Cap's reaction to finding out his true identity also leads to another Marvel first: a final battle with real emotional impact.

The movie does have as few issues though: It descends into the usual explosive, slightly convoluted combat that we're used to....and was I the only one that found some of the stuff with Fury, Widow and Pierce at the end a bit messy? Anyway, minor niggles for sure. What did you guys think? Vote below and sound off in the usual place.

SHIELD has been disbanded

So what is the show gonna do
Vegeta - 4/6/2014, 1:02 PM
I went with 'Excellent, Marvel's best'.
brickwall - 4/6/2014, 1:04 PM
Best Marvel film hands down, if you don't think so this is what your future holds.

Only kidding... but seriously one of the best films I've seen in a long time. Absolutely shits on IM3 and Thor 2.
LFANCH - 4/6/2014, 1:06 PM
Loved the movie, I would have liked a brief mention of the president getting kidnapped in IM3 through. It would have been a good excuse for the creation of project insight.
Vegeta - 4/6/2014, 1:08 PM
Up next, The Amazing Spider-Man 2!

Enphlieuwince - 4/6/2014, 1:08 PM
Wow, over 30 votes and nothing less than "good"? That means a helluva lot on this site.
JoJo1982 - 4/6/2014, 1:10 PM

I got a feeling that fight scene is going to be creepy and intense
ObviousTheCaptain - 4/6/2014, 1:11 PM

He is just amazing
JoJo1982 - 4/6/2014, 1:11 PM

HUSH bruh!!! Now somebody going to pick the opposite.... The hate is deep in this site
Omarvls - 4/6/2014, 1:13 PM
@ BatManiac
I went to best CBM of All Time
Nomis - 4/6/2014, 1:13 PM
I enjoyed it. A solid movie and much better than the first one.

Certainly Marvel's most Intelligent movie and most heart felt (Cap and Peg reunion is extremely touching).

However, It's not as fun or have a "wow factor" as the Avengers was nor as character driven with the relationship between the main protagonist and the antagonist as the first Iron man movie.

I'd wished Cap had been in his traditional suit a little more than just the 3rd act but that's just me nickpicking.

I'd say it's Marvel 3rd best movie after the Avengers and the first Iron Man.
bropous - 4/6/2014, 1:13 PM
Goddammit, how about a SPILER warning first????

Just messing with ya, man.

Good article.

Phenomenal movie. But I do not think that SHIELD is over and done with. Thinking more that tony Stark will be the new funding source, and Coulson the new Director of SHIELD.

HYDRA left to its own devices just does not make sense.
Vegeta - 4/6/2014, 1:17 PM

Yeah, that fight looks like it's going to one to remember.
JoJo1982 - 4/6/2014, 1:17 PM

Honestly I think it will

Mostly due to the title of the movie and the great promotion their doing for it.

Like I said earlier, the crowd went crazy at the Cap 2 opening, when they showed final spidey 2 preview
Abary - 4/6/2014, 1:17 PM
I thought it was a really good movie, but like many others, there a lot of faults. Not as good as people say it is. NOT Marvel's best and doesn't even begin to compare to Avengers.
JoJo1982 - 4/6/2014, 1:18 PM
Xmen is going to be good but I seriously think it might not make more than Cap or Spidey in the box office
SAZMD - 4/6/2014, 1:20 PM
Easily the best Phase 2 movie so far. Better than CA: TFA and TIH, slightly better than IM 2. I'd still rank IM, Thor and Avengers above it.
charlie2094 - 4/6/2014, 1:21 PM
Definitely agree with the emotional final battle! Great to see a Marvel action sequence that packed a real punch, the causeway fight was pretty brutal too

Have to say it's Marvels best film, surpasses them all for me no doubt, exactly what I wanted from a CBM; great action, takes itself seriously, good dose of humor, real stakes, great story, fantastic performances, actual emotion etc

Only really Iron Man 1 and Avengers that are close to it I feel. Completely blows away Iron Man 3 and Thor 2. No doubt that Age of Ultron will be just as great, but Joss definitely has his work cut out
SuperCat - 4/6/2014, 1:22 PM
This movie is sweet like freedom. Excellent.
LoudLon - 4/6/2014, 1:23 PM
I wouldn't say it's the best CBM ever (Superman: The Movie is a tough one to beat) but I'd for sure put it up there with The Dark Knight. I do think it's the best MCU flick to date -- even better than the first Iron Man, which until CA:TWS came along had my vote for best MCU flick thus far.

It does have its (minor) quibbles, but so do a lot of CBMs. Hell, I'm still scratching my head over how the hell Bruce Wayne survived the explosion in TDKR when he is very obviously sitting in the cockpit seconds before the bomb goes off (what, he ejected and swam six miles to escape the blast radius in less than a minute???). But its strengths far, FAR outweigh its weaknesses. An intelligent, intriguing story, excellent characterizations (Redford, downplaying, still steals all his scenes) and hard, fast action makes this one a huge success. It'll definitely go down as one of the all-time greats, IMO.
Bread - 4/6/2014, 1:24 PM
I loved how they put "The path of the righteous man" on Fury's grave. I was laughing my ass off!
JoJo1982 - 4/6/2014, 1:24 PM

"On your left"
LEEE777 - 4/6/2014, 1:26 PM
Agents of SHIELD might become THE A-TEAM on a plane? :P

Cool read!
sKeemAn - 4/6/2014, 1:28 PM
Its definitely Marvels most intense movie. With a couple more of dramatic scenes it could easily be the best. The intense action kinda takes the drama out toward the end. I have to watch it a couple more times before I say best in MCU. Whisc is still IM, with Cap 2 being a very close second.
ALegendaryPanda - 4/6/2014, 1:28 PM
Best solo Marvel movie yet! I really want a Winter Soldier standalone movie in phase 3
OnePunchBaldy - 4/6/2014, 1:28 PM
Great film, but idk if it being one of the best CBMs yet.

The Dark Knight (Trilogy)
Spider-Man 2
Iron Man
X2 & First Class

Are all arguably better, but it's the best Marvel Studios solo film since Iron Man.
Sector2814 - 4/6/2014, 1:29 PM
this movie was incredible. THIS is how you do a cbm. best cbm movie ever. felt like i was literally watching a comic book
marvel72 - 4/6/2014, 1:29 PM
excellent marvel's best.

definitely the best marvel studios movie & i would even be bold enough to say the best comic book movie i have seen.
dezdigi - 4/6/2014, 1:30 PM
Did anyone catch any major easter eggs in the movie? I was so caught up in the action and plot that I didn't really notice any.
JoJo1982 - 4/6/2014, 1:32 PM
C'mon guys am I the only that think SHIELD is not fully dead, I mean some of the real shield agents survived
And Tony could take over much like his father did

But I don't think Shield is "Revenge of the sith, Jedi dead"
Dunejedi - 4/6/2014, 1:32 PM
Some of you think SHIELD is done after TWS? Really?! REALLY!?!? Guess again.

Oh and, TWS is the best Phase 2 flick, hands down.
TheWolverine08 - 4/6/2014, 1:33 PM
It was freaking awesome.
OnePunchBaldy - 4/6/2014, 1:33 PM
The CGI was off to me in a lot of scenes (Cap & Fury discussing project insight with all the hellicarriers & old lady Peggy) as much as the fight choreography was great, it overdid it with the shaky cam a few times.
Bread - 4/6/2014, 1:33 PM
I think that a good way to revamp AoS after this, would be by the end of this season they'll have the current team go their separate ways, and the next season will just be Coulson, on his own, going around and checking out potential threats and whatnot. Every now and then they'll have another agent like Garret make an appearance and help out for that episode, but mostly it would just be Coulson.
BIGBMH - 4/6/2014, 1:34 PM
These polls should be written more broadly so it's easier to identify with the options. None of the answers really fit how I feel about the movie. I think it's very good, but I wouldn't say "Probably their best solo movie" because I'm not sure if it tops Iron Man for me. (And why are "probably" and "for sure" in the same sentence?) Choosing the next option would be saying that I'm "not really sure what the fuss is about" which implies that I don't think it's worth the praise people have given it.
Vegeta - 4/6/2014, 1:36 PM
I'm hoping Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D becomes Agents of S.W.O.R.D, as I think their best episodes have been their alien orientated ones.
Comedian03 - 4/6/2014, 1:36 PM
The new standard to which ALL Marvel movies should be held to. The best Marvel movie to date hands down, the tone, plot, cinematography, everything.

The plot of Captain America: TWS would've actually made a decent plot for an Avengers movie, add in a couple more characters, up the stakes, and it would've made a good Avengers flick.
JoJo1982 - 4/6/2014, 1:37 PM

If they go with your idea
I think the cast of AoS(except coulson)would be pissed off at you, lol
RorMachine - 4/6/2014, 1:38 PM
Ah, that was a mistake...shouldn't have "for sure" there. I'll amend it. Otherwise, cmon dude, we can't put deep meditations on the movie in these polls! Click the one that most closely matches up with your opinion on it and then elaborate here if you need to.
fortycals - 4/6/2014, 1:39 PM
F this movie comparison shit, let's get into some good ole fanboy speculation. A lot of people are overlooking the biggest game changer. It's not so much that shield all messed up, the fact that all their secrets are out for everyone to see, is the real game changer. All the tech they stash and deem unfit for human use, is now known about. The list of gifted people would be out, and no one to protect our monitor them. Strucker got it right, we are in an age of miracles. I would go as far as saying that this is the flood gate that needed to be open for a more 616 like world where super heroes will be more common.
