Stanley Tucci Confirms Hayley Atwell’s Return For CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Despite the actress debunking her involvement previously, Hayley Atwell’s First Avenger co-star Stanley Tucci may have confirmed Peggy Carter’s return in The Winter Soldier, to a certain extent.

Under promotional duties for Jack the Giant Slayer, actor Stanley Tucci reminisced with Collider about his pivotal role in Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Speaking on the Joe Johnston-directed film’s strong love story, the actor started, “Oh, it does [have one]. And Hayley Atwell, who I just had dinner with last night, we’ve become good friends. I really love that. I really love the relationship between the two of them.” After being pressed whether Marvel has asked him to reprise his Abraham Erskine role the upcoming sequel, The Winter Soldier, Tucci let slip that his First Avenger co-star will indeed return, even though she’s said otherwise in previous interviews. “No, [the folks at Marvel] haven’t, unfortunately. I’m really sad. I know that Hayley is going back to do a flashback scene, but I have not been asked.” Atwell’s return isn't too surprising considering the English actress said last week that we’d see Peggy Carter in some other context. Anyhow, looking back on his work in The First Avenger, Stanley Tucci added, “I loved making that movie. I had a great time. I really like Joe Johnston. I think he’s a wonderful director. I also love the look of the film, and the tone of the film, and the character was great. I was thrilled to be able to play that. I was so sad that I died because I wanted to come back and do another one. It was great to be offered this old, German scientist. I thought, “Oh, that’s great.” I couldn’t tell if I was really flattered or insulted. I don’t know.”

Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury & the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, Toby Jones, Cobie Smulders with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joe Russo & Anthony Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; & “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!
