Despite reports earlier today claiming that Warner Bros. were planning to release Batman Vs. Superman a week earlier to avoid Marvel's 2016 movie, The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that it's Captain America 3 which will take that May 6th spot two years from now!

If you needed any further proof that Marvel are incredibly confident about the success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that Captain America 3 is the movie that they've selected to face off against Batman Vs. Superman in 2016. Some fans had been speculating that Doctor Strange would take that date, a move which seemed ill-advised (after all, a fairly unknown property against Batman AND Superman sounds like box office suicide). The site goes on to add that, "Warners may have been waiting to see what the Marvel title was before considering a date change for Batman-Superman, if the studio indeed blinks." With box office analysts dismissing the possibility of the two opening against each other and that report from earlier, expect to hear something official soon about Batman Vs. Superman...

Called it, as I'm sure many did.
DraculaX - 3/13/2014, 2:08 PM
Well the war has began.
Reasonnnn - 3/13/2014, 2:10 PM
America vs United Nations
McNyagano - 3/13/2014, 2:10 PM
Let's see how well Cap 2 does. If it does over 600 mil worldwide Iwhich it'll probably will) the WB/DC has to be worried. Not saying Cap 3 will out gross Batman vs Superman but it'll hurt the film's B.O and won't let it earn to it's potential. If I were WB/DC, I would move especially if Cap 2 is well received and makes a lot of money.
Kang - 3/13/2014, 2:12 PM
The First Aveneger vs The Worlds Finest.

Cool, but I don't care. I hope they don't get released on the same day, because I'll want to see both, and I don't want to spend half a day in the cinema.
Kurne - 3/13/2014, 2:13 PM
What???? It should have been Thor 3... This doesn't make sense. A lot of shifting schedules.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 3/13/2014, 2:13 PM
DC should move to June/July. Those are the months I look forward to the most for summer blockbusters.
rockerdude22 - 3/13/2014, 2:14 PM
Nice to see Cap getting the love he deserves! My favorite comic book character!
JosephKing - 3/13/2014, 2:14 PM
HAHA! Gotta love Marvel's opportunism.

It's serious, I'm not saying it to bash on Marvel, it's really a brilliant move to announce it now.
Kurne - 3/13/2014, 2:14 PM
Then Doctor Strange is in July that year, Thor 3 in 2017 (like they said, they want a new and existing title every year).
Starfox - 3/13/2014, 2:14 PM
Kevin Feige "We're Not Moving!"

Look out MOS2

soforizo - 3/13/2014, 2:14 PM
Two movies I like... but it's BvS first and foremost for me.
Lancer1 - 3/13/2014, 2:15 PM
dammit I will see both of them but ....we shall see how this turns out
rockerdude22 - 3/13/2014, 2:15 PM
I'm curious at to what story-line they'll use for Cap 3. Maybe Zemo and the return of Red Skull, perhaps?
Kang - 3/13/2014, 2:15 PM
WB have moved their release date to the same week Cap 3 gets released internationally, so they're still going head to head internationally.

WB will have a just over a week of the domestic box office without competition, presuming WB release the move internationally and domestically like the usually do, and Marvel release their movie earlier Internationally like they usually do.
McNyagano - 3/13/2014, 2:16 PM
Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been receiving nothing but Great buzz. It's gonna make a lot of money through word of mouth which is already great so far.
DarkGrifter - 3/13/2014, 2:16 PM
Seriously, I wish one of the studios had the balls to just move their release date.
No one could possibly benefit from this.
rockerdude22 - 3/13/2014, 2:16 PM
I still believe that one of them will move. From a business stand point, that would be the smartest thing.
Kurne - 3/13/2014, 2:17 PM
It's a bit unfair for Cap to take the hit, but oh well.
JediPhilosopher - 3/13/2014, 2:18 PM
They need to get on this over at HISHE. I'm sure Superman and Batman will have hillarious smug things to say to the Captain. :P
rockerdude22 - 3/13/2014, 2:19 PM
If it stays like this, I can't even begin to imagine what the fanboys at the midnight releases are going to do to each other...

NEWS FLASH: Mass chaos broke out at the local cinema last night, as fans of the new Captain America movie and fans of the new Batman vs Superman movie broke out into a huge fight. Many casualties were caused, with barely anyone making it out alive.
Kang - 3/13/2014, 2:19 PM
For you guys in the States though, it's cool, but for us over here in the UK, I wouldn't be surprised if WB move the release date to the exact same day as Cap 3, because WB like to play dirty like that.
Omarvls - 3/13/2014, 2:20 PM
No more Flame Wars Please
WorstUserNameEver - 3/13/2014, 2:20 PM
If the buzz for CA:TWS is true by the time Cap 3 is released, Cap could be an Ironman-sized obstacle for Batman/Superman.
QuestiontheAnswer - 3/13/2014, 2:21 PM
Yeah BvS takes preference.
Kang - 3/13/2014, 2:21 PM
If it comes to it though, I'll have to go with Batman vs Superman, and watch Cap 3 a couple of days later.
ibravosp5 - 3/13/2014, 2:22 PM
This war won't subdue til at least 2028. When movies will probably be rebooted
rockerdude22 - 3/13/2014, 2:22 PM
*Continued from my last post*

We now go live to a witness who saw the whole thing break out.

[Cut to witness in front of camera at theater].

Reporter: Witness, do you have anything to say on this matter?

Witness: Those guys need to get laid
joeschmow013 - 3/13/2014, 2:22 PM
Wow is on.
revloveR - 3/13/2014, 2:22 PM
@rockerdude22, you're delusional. whatever couple of fanboys that might get into an exchange would sooner turn it into a westside story dance battle than a [frick]ing fight. most everyone will leave a showing of one film and go see the other one.

shit isn't that serious out on the real world. not for shit like this anyway.
WorstUserNameEver - 3/13/2014, 2:23 PM

If any hero amongst the Marvel stable would step up to take the hit it would be Cap... quite poetic.
Batman52 - 3/13/2014, 2:23 PM
Cool Captain America 3, Hopefully they bring Red Skull back and bring in Baron Zemo.
rockerdude22 - 3/13/2014, 2:23 PM
@revloveR Dude, I was joking... I know it isn't really like that in the real world lol
Mike89 - 3/13/2014, 2:23 PM
Why not just move the movie in July 2016? Most DC movies get released in July anyways.
Kang - 3/13/2014, 2:23 PM
If it was Inhumans, I'd force myself to watch both the same day, but I could wait to see Cap 3.
charlie2094 - 3/13/2014, 2:24 PM
Had to be either this or Thor 3 for that release date...

Cap 3 can't really compete, not with BvsS, nothing short of Iron Man 4 could truly comepete...the dates will move around by the time it comes to it, both films/studios will be hurt by this, so someone will move, if not both of them
BlackestKnight - 3/13/2014, 2:24 PM
welllllllllllllllll thats kinda unfair for cap... but MERICA ALWAYS WINS.
rockerdude22 - 3/13/2014, 2:24 PM
Inhumans or Doctor Strange would be cool in my book!
Mike89 - 3/13/2014, 2:25 PM
By 2016 this site will become a war zone of raging DC and Marvel fanboys attaking each other like a swarm of zombies hunger for human flesh.
GodzillaKart - 3/13/2014, 2:26 PM
I have to say...this seems like a bad move on the part of both studios. It can't help but cut the profits of both.
