But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy — the Winter Soldier. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Hurray! Go marvel
Ramiel - 5/18/2014, 10:41 AM
I wonder if TASM2 will catch up to these numbers. It currently sits at $633M worldwide.
McNyagano - 5/18/2014, 10:41 AM
Oh look that one guy who can't stop talking about IM3. Great news nonetheless, deserves every cent it makes. Bring on Cap 3;)

Chcl - 5/18/2014, 10:42 AM

Amazing numbers!!!

I hope it continues to growing up. The film deserves much more!!!
Omarvls - 5/18/2014, 10:42 AM
Best CBM of All Time
The Dark Knight is now number #2
DynamicDynamo - 5/18/2014, 10:42 AM
It was their 3rd highest grossing a few weeks ago. Like you said, T:TDW made $644 million, CA:TWS is at $703 million. It didn't reach that over the weekend...
ruadh - 5/18/2014, 10:43 AM
Not a shock.

Great stuff! Completely deserved it's success! Really nailed it with this one...wouldn't be surprised if Marvel brings Cap 3 forward to April, give them more room before all the other summer films again...

MrBlackJack - 5/18/2014, 10:44 AM
Great News!
MrBlackJack - 5/18/2014, 10:45 AM
P.S. @McN The title should be "CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Is Now Marvel's 3rd Highest Grossing Film"
MightOfMagneto - 5/18/2014, 10:46 AM
Deserves every penny and this flick proves that you don't need to integrate forced jokes to sell.

Cough * IronMan 3 & Thor 2 * Cough

I hope Marvel will learn their lesson from this movie.

McNyagano - 5/18/2014, 10:46 AM

Duly noted thanks sir:')
SauronsBANE - 5/18/2014, 10:46 AM
I'm fine with The Avengers and Iron Man 3 and potentially TASM 2 making more money than TWS, because money is never the sole indicator of how good or bad a movie is. All that matters is if it's good enough to avoid being a critical or commercial flop, enough people see the movie to spark renewed interest in the character, and that it makes enough of a profit to guarantee a sequel. Anything else is just the cherry on top.
MrBlackJack - 5/18/2014, 10:48 AM
I do not and likely never will understand the hate for TDW.
Maestro - 5/18/2014, 10:48 AM
Completely deserving. Greatest cbm ever.

KallarkKent - 5/18/2014, 10:50 AM
Go Cap! :)
MrBlackJack - 5/18/2014, 10:50 AM
@McN Actually, it should probably say "Marvel Studio's" instead of "Marvel's" to be more specific, but since it is still the 3rd highest grossing Marvel film in general, guess it doesn't make a difference lol.
Amazing512 - 5/18/2014, 10:51 AM
Best superhero film ever in my opinion. Glad it's kicking a**.
Omarvls - 5/18/2014, 10:51 AM
Marvel give Cap his chain mail dragon scale battle armor with a winged helmet
Have him go into battle on a Sky Cycle for Cap 3
And have him team up with Black Panther
SauraLilvera - 5/18/2014, 10:52 AM
Cap is a bigger box office draw than Superman. Awse.
Maestro - 5/18/2014, 10:52 AM
And no worries, Cap 3 will surpass Iron Man 3, that's for sure. Cap 2 outgrossed IM2, and with the Russo's coming back for Cap 3, its almost a guaranteed success.
CaptainObvious - 5/18/2014, 10:52 AM
MrBlackJack - 5/18/2014, 10:52 AM
Haha, I don't mean to sound harsh and make my input seem like a life or death necessity. Sorry about that.
AlexanderLykins - 5/18/2014, 10:53 AM
Now let's see how Guardians of the Galaxy can perform. Anything under $450 million would be upsetting.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 5/18/2014, 10:53 AM
Thor: The Dark World was a great film with minor flaws. The hate for that and IM3 I say BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS DIABOLICAL HATERS ;) ANYWAYS....Cap is the man!!!!
third3ye - 5/18/2014, 10:53 AM
Called it, $700m baby!
BatzFTWfan - 5/18/2014, 10:53 AM
Go Cap!! You'll reach 750$ million in a few weeks and get into 50 highest grossing movies of all time.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 5/18/2014, 10:55 AM
Cap 2 is the greatest written comicbook film of all time!!
MightOfMagneto - 5/18/2014, 10:55 AM
All cap's fight scenes in this movie were beautifully done.

I can not say the same with his fight scenes in CAP: TFA and The Avengers.

Glad they went with the "Bourne-ish" type of fight choreography.
DefcoN - 5/18/2014, 10:55 AM
marvel72 - 5/18/2014, 10:55 AM
definitely the comic book movie to beat.
DCMarvelFreshman - 5/18/2014, 10:55 AM
@McNyagano Just a heads up bud, but Cap 2 has been Marvel's 3rd highest grossing film since last month. Changing the headline works:-)
TheRealRemyLebeau - 5/18/2014, 10:56 AM
@joshwilding looking stupid today. Somebody jumped the shark. ;)
Maestro - 5/18/2014, 10:56 AM

lol thats adorable
Humperdink - 5/18/2014, 10:56 AM
Deserves it.
I'd say it should be no.1

Intense, fun, exhilarating, edge of your seat action...that's how you make a comic book movie.
kinghulk - 5/18/2014, 10:56 AM
i wondered when someone would make an article about this lol. TWS is brilliant cant wait until it comes out on DVD.
Maestro - 5/18/2014, 10:57 AM
Agreed on the TDW. I think Cap2 is better though.
MightOfMagneto - 5/18/2014, 10:57 AM
"Thor: The Dark World was a great film with minor flaws"

oh... I love that sarcastic comment!
Ranger14 - 5/18/2014, 10:58 AM
"Deserves every penny and this flick proves that you don't need to integrate forced jokes to sell."

Forced jokes is strictly a matter of opinion and if you are trying to convince me that the situational humor integrated in IM3 and Thor2 was the reason that the films sold well, I have some ocean front property to sell you here in Arizona. ;-)

Cap2 is tied with The Avengers as my favorite CBM. I like each of them for what they are, so it is difficult to choose. It's difficult to put such a great ensemble cast film up against a solo character film. Yes, Cap2 had Black Widow and the Falcon, but you can hardly compare that to having the likes of Thor, Iron Man and the Hulk sharing the screen.
