I'll make this short and sweet.

Chris Evans nay-sayers, prepare to eat your words. Evans NAILS it as both pre- and post-serum Steve Rogers. Like RDJ as Tony Stark, I can't imagine anyone else ever being able to play this role.

Hugo Weaving is one of the most, if not THE most, effective MCU villain to date. He's everything a villain is supposed to be: sinister, sneering and menacing. Weaving proves Agent Smith wasn't just a one-off, but that he's a natural when it comes to villainous characters.

My only complaints: not enough interaction with Steve and Peggy Carter (by the way, Hayley Atwell is GORGEOUS in this movie) and Bucky's death isn't given the gravitas it deserved. Also, maybe a little too much laser play. But that's just carping.

My favorite thing about the film, though, is that while it may be another stepping stone on the way to next year's The Avengers, it doesn't feel like one. CA:TFA is its own movie, with its own beginning, middle and end. And Steve's final words in the film aren't about his shock at having awoken in a world some 70 years beyond his time. Rather, they're about the one thing he wanted but never got to have from his own time, cementing even further that while Rogers may be a hero to millions, he's still just a man. And in this case, a man with a heart.

Cap has been my favorite comic book character since I first picked up an issue of Captain America in June of 1981. So I've literally been waiting thirty years for this film -- and I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Along with Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger is, in my opinion, the best MCU movie to date. Also like Iron Man, the final scene doesn't just make you aware there's going to be a sequel -- it makes you actually EXCITED for one.

Great flick. Cap fans won't be disappointed.

Agreed. I loved the ending. Steve's final line actual tugged on my heart strings a bit.

As I said, he may be a superhero, but you know where his heart lies.

@Lou...I think Braz meant the post credit ending...you did stay for that didn't you? because that alone was worth the price of admission.
LoudLon - 7/22/2011, 9:33 PM
Yup, stayed for that. It's a Marvel movie, you NEVER leave before the end credits are finished. Which I actually said to a couple people as they filed past my aisle seat once the credits began.

Unfortunately some of the impact was lost on me, because I'd already watched the leaked footage here on CBM about forty times LOL

Now that i look back @ the ending, its pretty damn sad when Cap says "I had a date" just the way Evans delivered that line made me feel for the guy.
And about Bucky's death, i think they killed him off way too early. They shouldve kept him for the final scene so the Red Skull couldve been the one to push him off the plane, making Steve forget about being the good guy and beat the crap out of the red skull for what he did. That way, i think wouldve been for emotional. and after that would be the emotional scene with Cap over the radio with peggy.

Good short review LoudLon. I hope we see more of Peggy

I think in the Avengers it will be good to have Steve as the serious one and we can have the comedic moments between Tony and Thor . I still have to wait till the 29th to see CA movie, good to hear that most people give it the thumbs up!

Dude you nailed this review. Excellent, agree with everything. Cap has been inspiring me since I was a very little dude! What an experience! Going to the movies, sitting down with my kid, and watching a top notch CAPTAIN AMERICA movie!!!!!!!
