Robert Redford Spoils CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Role Detail; Anthony Mackie’s ‘Falcon’ In 60% of Movie

Recent comments from Robert Redford has the Captain America: The Winter Soldier actor possibly spoil an aspect of his character, while Anthony Mackie declares The Falcon’s very involved in the movie!

Speaking with The Times-Picayune recently, Pain and Gain actor Anthony Mackie discussed more about his role as Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie. Although Marvel’s plot synopsis failed to include the character, Mackie assured that, “Sam's very involved. I'm in about 60 percent of the movie,” he said. “Captain America, the Black Widow and The Falcon take down the Winter Solider together, and they solve the crime at hand and take down the Winter Soldier. So this movie, if you look at the cast, with everybody in (the fictional crime-fighting group) S.H.I.E.L.D. and (co-stars Robert) Redford and Sam Jackson and everybody who's in the movie, it's kind of turning into 'The Avengers Part 2' because the cast is so big.”

Meanwhile, Here Be Geeks has quoted thespian Robert Redford as he was speaking with The Straits Times and offered an interesting, and possibly spoilerific, tidbit about his role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The veteran actor is playing Alexander Pierce, the Head of S.H.I.E.L.D., in the Anthony & Joe-directed film. However, Redford explained that, “I think a career requires a certain amount of reinvention. If you get caught in one track I think that can be dangerous. Success has a dark side to it. you want to be careful if you’ve had success at something, that you not try and follow it by just duplicating it. That’s why I’m doing this Captain America thing. I like the idea of playing a villain…I did that just because it’s a different thing for me to do.”.

This quote could have been taken out of context, but considering Robert Redford's high-caliber status, his character's “sleeper Agent” history, and Marvel producer Kevin Feige's recent comments about Steve Rogers being “uncomfortable with the way S.H.I.E.L.D. operates” in the film, Alexander Pierce turning out to be a villain isn't too hard to believe. Here Be Geeks goes on to speculate that “Alexander Pierce” is a faulty name, and that Redford is actually playing Soviet military General Aleksander Lukin, who played a major part in The Winter Soldier comic book arc. What do you think?

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” picks up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

RPD - 5/8/2013, 12:11 PM
Man, I hope this movie is good. The comic arc was epic...
marvel72 - 5/8/2013, 12:11 PM
baron zemo,i know he has nothing to do with the story but we've already seen red skull,i think marvel may change it slightly.
AlexanderLykins - 5/8/2013, 12:13 PM
So we get Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Iron Man 3 and Mission Impossible with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I wonder what we will get with Thor: The Dark World.
sephiroth211 - 5/8/2013, 12:13 PM
In 60 percent of the movie?

FirstAvenger - 5/8/2013, 12:15 PM
You are so fired.
ParisSun - 5/8/2013, 12:16 PM
Oh, could he be Red Skull? This will only lead to more speculation but I now kinda wish I had not been spoiled. Should not have clicked on this article.
AlexanderLykins - 5/8/2013, 12:17 PM
What ever happened to the Marvel snipers? They had Tom Hiddleston on lockdown and now everyone else is talking so freely.
marvel72 - 5/8/2013, 12:19 PM
@ AlexanderLykins

hopefully game of thrones, alan"game of thrones"taylor is directing.
2gold - 5/8/2013, 12:19 PM
He's Robert Redford, you don't argue with Jeremiah Johnson!
OdinsBeard - 5/8/2013, 12:20 PM
RexDart@ i hope you just nailed it.
AlexanderLykins - 5/8/2013, 12:21 PM
So they capture the Winter Soldier and fix him. Then they find out that Alexander Pierce is Aleksander Lukin and they have to fight his best henchman Crossbones. Mid-credits scene will be Aleksander Lukin reporting to Baron Zemo, current leader of Hydra and the master behind the whole plan to kill Captain America. Post-credits scene is Red Skull recruiting Baron Zemo to the Masters of Evil.
AlexanderLykins - 5/8/2013, 12:23 PM
Yeah I was thinking more along the lines of what movie it could be emulating.
jlabatman - 5/8/2013, 12:24 PM
The news about this movie gets better and better minus the Cap Shield stooge costume, but I can live with it, maybe?
Gmoney84 - 5/8/2013, 12:25 PM
If Marvel is pissed about this how do you tell Robert Redford?? He's one of the most iconic film actors alive.

Good luck with that one, Marvel. Ya'll may need the Avengers to handle that...but first ya gotta pay 'em more money. (See what I did there?)
himynameisnik - 5/8/2013, 12:28 PM
I'm hoping the possibility Pierce being a bad guy wasn't meant to be a massive spoiler
jessepostal - 5/8/2013, 12:28 PM
Alexander Pierce did have a lot to do with hydra in the books, please lord let him be Red Skull, please!
AlexDeLarge87 - 5/8/2013, 12:28 PM
It would be cool if he is actually Lukin.

And in the end he rips off his face and shows that he is actually Red Skull. What a twist. :D

No its better he stays as Lukin (If he actually even is that character).

Baron Zemo would be cool but i dont mind if he doesnt show up.

Lukin, Winter Soldier, Crossbones, Batroc and Arnim Zola. There would be enough challenge in those villains.

If Redford is actually Lukin i hope he dyes his hair black and grows goatee for the role.
GodzillaKart - 5/8/2013, 12:31 PM
This is shaping up to be interesting.
DrDoom - 5/8/2013, 12:31 PM
I really am wondering where the fridge Zemo and Madame Hydra are.
GeekyCheekyChic - 5/8/2013, 12:32 PM
Nazi in disguise. Bring on the Masters of Evil. HYDRA/AIM vs The Avengers.... or SHIELD/World Security Council seeing that their super group really isn't theirs to control make their own "Avengers" Winter Soldier, Cross Bones, Abomination and it turns out Redford played SHIELD and the Council cause he is working for Zemo or Skull.
GeekyCheekyChic - 5/8/2013, 12:33 PM
I have a feeling Cap 2 will be the best of Phase 2 before Avengers 2 hits.
jlabatman - 5/8/2013, 12:33 PM
As long as his character isn't a Slattery brother, I think this will be golden!
AlexDeLarge87 - 5/8/2013, 12:35 PM
If he is just Sleeper Agent Pierce. The Main villain he is working for should be Zemo who now leads Hydra.
zachshivey - 5/8/2013, 12:36 PM
I like Mackie. Hes a good fit for the far this movie is sounding good. Hopefully we get a teaser soon unlike how they did CA: TFA
AlexDeLarge87 - 5/8/2013, 12:36 PM
Or Red Skull.
KnobGoblin - 5/8/2013, 12:37 PM
Oh goody, another twist.
kinghulk - 5/8/2013, 12:37 PM
i think he could be the red skull, i mean in the comics the red skull took control of lukin's body maybe a present that loki left for cpt.
BigDamnHero - 5/8/2013, 12:39 PM

That would be so unbelievably awesome.
Ocelot - 5/8/2013, 12:42 PM
so i'm guessing that he'll be working for someone else, zemo perhaps and has infiltrated shield over the years and eventually reached a high ranking position, and is part of the reason why cap turns against shield after relieving nick fury of his duties
TheAbomination - 5/8/2013, 12:48 PM
Well that's interesting...
SugarYumYum - 5/8/2013, 12:51 PM
CA:TFA was one of my favorite Phase 1 films and I've been liking everything I've been hearing about TWS so far. Glad Mackie seems to be getting a lot of screen love in this film, I was a bit concerned he might be under-used.
NeoBaggins - 5/8/2013, 12:52 PM
[email protected] trying to use Jedi Mind-tricks to push this as Avengers 2. He wants a piece of billion dollar pie.
CapFanLex005 - 5/8/2013, 12:52 PM
If Redford is playing it im down...I love that dude
