Steven Soderbergh Recalls Vouching For The Russo Bros. To Direct CAPTAIN AMERICA Sequel
The Side Effects director shares his thoughts on the comic book movie genre, stating that he isn't "a comic book guy". However, he then reveals that he endorsed the Russo Brothers to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Speaking with Collider, director Steven Soderbergh (who recently helmed Haywire, Magic Mike, and the upcoming Side Effects) shares his thoughts on the comic book movie genre. Yesterday, we heard actor Jude Law express interest in appearing in a CBM, but Soderbergh doesn't sound near as interested. However, he did endorse brothers Joe and Anthony Russo when they were pursuing Marvel Studios' upcoming sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, saying that the Community directing duo were seeking the job for the right reasons and that he wasn't the right guy for such a gig. "I just wasn’t a comic book guy. When the Russos were going after the Captain America sequel, they called me and said, 'Will you call Marvel and talk to them about us?' because I have a relationship with them. I said, 'Tell me why you want to do this.' And they go, 'Because we have a $60,000 comic book collection, because we’re obsessed with this shit.' And I went, 'Okay, I’m just checking.' Because I’m not, that’s why I can’t do one, but I didn’t know that and I just wanted to make sure that they were going after it for the right reasons as it turned out they were and they ended up getting the job and they’ll do a great job because they love it, and I’m just not the guy."
