COMICS: Artist Of Mark Millar's CHRONONAUTS Explains Genius Optical Illusion On Issue #1 Cover

Forget that stupid dress! Chrononauts artist Sean Gordon Murphy included an optical illusion on the cover of the first issue of Mark Millar's new series which only around 1 in 15 people are able to see. Are you one of them? Hit the jump to find out, and to learn how it was created...

Chrononauts is the latest series from Kick-Ass and Kingsman: The Secret Service creator Mark Millar, and he will be joined by A-List artist Sean Gordon Murphy (The Wake). The first instalment goes on sale this Wednesday, but a clever optical illusion on the cover of the first issue is getting everyone on Twitter talking! I'm not sure about you guys, but all I see here is a broken clock face with no hands. However, as you can see below, a very small percentage see something else entirely.

Which side do you fall on? Check out the Tweets below for the image and explanation, then let us know your thoughts in the usual place. Chrononauts features a bromance for the ages! Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly are two buddies who love to have fun. They're also scientific geniuses. When their research leads them to a time-traveling adventure, will they use their knowledge for the good of all mankind? Or use the space-time continuum for their own ends? This is the story of man's first, televised steps through the time-stream and everything going wrong in the process.

DEVLIN712 - 3/16/2015, 3:36 PM
Chrononauts and The Suiciders are my two most anticipated comics to come in this year.
Scarilian - 3/16/2015, 3:39 PM
What is it with really boring optical illusions suddenly becoming so mainstream. This is really basic stuff in the field of optical illusions and everyone reacts like he's just turned Water into Diamonds :L
DrDoom - 3/16/2015, 3:39 PM

more like

"shut up, mark millar"
JredTheRed - 3/16/2015, 3:39 PM

ThedamnBatman - 3/16/2015, 3:41 PM
Nice bait, this has been around for a long time though
pesmerga44 - 3/16/2015, 3:46 PM
So something only 1% of people can possibly see is suppose to be genius really it is just dumb.
SoFresh - 3/16/2015, 3:47 PM

Millar is a gimmick-y mother[frick]er, but I can see it, so HAHA!
DrKinsolving - 3/16/2015, 3:50 PM

NovaCorpsFan - 3/16/2015, 4:02 PM
Holy shit, Millar actually linked this article on his Facebook. Mark, if you're reading this, I love your work. You're the best thing out of Scotland since Billy Connolly.
thor2273 - 3/16/2015, 4:29 PM
It's like that dress. Who gives a [frick].
marvel72 - 3/16/2015, 4:53 PM

thebearjew - 3/16/2015, 5:26 PM

ScionStorm - 3/16/2015, 6:46 PM
@pesmerga44 1/15= 1% to you? Your math must me far more advanced than mine.
Schmoopy - 3/16/2015, 6:58 PM
I can't see sh*t!

pesmerga44 - 3/16/2015, 7:36 PM

Look at the first Sean Gordon Murphy tweet with the three watches side by side the first one said 1% of people will see the hourglass. I didn't see Mark Millar's post that said 1/15 have the eye condition. My fault for not reading all the article and assuming that was the correct percentage but that is where I got it from.
CavalierTunes - 3/16/2015, 7:43 PM
I just ran the picture through a ton of filters on my iPhone. None of them showed the hour glass. Methinks this is a prank.
Verzwei - 3/16/2015, 7:58 PM
I'm a writer and I write at least 30 pages of content each day and I still can't see shit.
Verzwei - 3/16/2015, 8:03 PM
Just inverted and did lots of image manipulation and there's absolutely nothing on that crap. They are pranking us...
Orehrepus - 3/16/2015, 8:51 PM
I'm among the 14.
OCDSuperman - 3/16/2015, 10:05 PM
@pesmerga44 @ScionSotrm

If you're interested 6.66% of the population might be able to see it. Most of these will be male since color perception is a sex-linked trait. Less that half a percent of women (probably way less since this is an uncommon class of color blindness) will see anything but a watch face.
Jarvisjackrabbit - 3/16/2015, 10:25 PM
They should change the name of the series to "Trolled" by Millar and Murphy.
Oxbow - 3/16/2015, 10:28 PM
I like the premise and the artist ...let me know if this is any good. I have a stack of comics on my desk right now to read after finals!!
pesmerga44 - 3/16/2015, 10:36 PM

Gruff - 3/16/2015, 11:15 PM
Chrononauts? Bullshit! I can't see them! All I can see is Cronuts!
126thst - 3/17/2015, 12:15 AM
Cool cover trick doesn't cover up the book itself is average at best.
jimoakley666 - 3/17/2015, 3:03 AM
Sorry, Sean. Bit underwhelmed by this. Just seems like a bit of a pointless waste of time to me.
pepe - 3/17/2015, 4:13 AM
I only see boobs...
spidermanfan2099 - 3/17/2015, 5:01 AM
I call bullshit!
Acerimmer1 - 3/17/2015, 6:08 AM
Among other things the stargate thing is in front of the guys arm! Isn't that funky enough already?
Acerimmer1 - 3/17/2015, 6:19 AM
Also how do you get 1/15 if the increments are 1% 90% and 99%?

enduran - 3/17/2015, 6:33 AM
Genius optical illusion? It's something that only color blind people can see. That's an easter egg if anything.
Hatsas01 - 3/17/2015, 8:11 AM
Took it into photoshop, there is no hourglass. Can't speak for the printed cover, but the internet pic is a very lame hoax
TheDaytime - 3/17/2015, 10:36 AM
Rubbish......Why put it there if no one can see it ? Not Genius, dumb
Acerimmer1 - 3/17/2015, 1:59 PM
I saw a documentary once a guy somehow lost the use of an entire hemisphere of his brain from an accident of some kind. The brain adapted and from the conversations he had in the documentary you couldn't really even tell he was disabled. Since then when I hear this left brain right brain stuff I'm a bit skeptical.
