COMICS: First Look At Mark Millar And John Romita Jr.'s KICK-ASS 3 #7 - Penultimate Issue

There are only two issues left in Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s Kick-Ass trilogy, and a preview of this week's penultimate issue has now been released. We also have Paolo Rivera's incredible variant cover and more great extras, so hit the jump to check them out!

Hit-Girl's day of reckoning has arrived. Tied up mentally and physically, she's an easy mark even for a washed-up super-villain like Chris Genovese (formerly known as The Mother F**ker). Where is Kick-Ass when she needs him most? What's happened to ALL the costumed superheroes? A major character death is imminent and with only one more issue before the series finale, it could be anyone!

Pretty sure we can all guess how this ends... Don Rocco will end up killing the Mother [frick]er when he hesitates instead of Hit Girl because of him constantly being a disappointment to their crime family.

Hit Girl will come to from her drug induced state and kill a few guys before getting shot by a cop or something when they enter the building, she'll die in Kick-ass's arms.

Kick Ass will end up retiring after sustaining an injury in his battle against Rocco - in which he'll be forced to kill him - resulting in him quoting Batman "You either die a hero, or live long enough for yourself to become the villain"

I just don't get the sheepish hate for Romita Jr.'s artwork. The guy is a legend. Crazy talent.

@Sunfire regarding the art: I think the art is decent, but it's just distinctive. More cartoonier, but that is fine. Hit-Girl/Mindy is still the adorable badass and even Chris Genovese is surprisingly handsome in the later chapters.

If you want to see truly bad artwork, try the sh****er tier of pre-CCA comics, most of the Tijuana bibles that followed afterwards, your average newspaper comic strips (like Drabble, Momma or King of ID). Even the earliest art for Static looks better than the true crapfests I just mentioned. The early Static art was pretty bad, much worse than the Kick-Ass artwork when it comes to aesthetics.

Regarding what will happen and who will die in the last two chapters: Predictability says that Dave will be the last one standing after Hit-Girl goes out like Angela in the final battle with Malebolgia (Spawn). Then Dave will finally quit and end up marrying the red-headed nurse girl, like in Milestone Forever #2, when Virgil (Static) had long hung up his cape and marries Frieda. Plus, Dave = author insert, as stated in a Millar interview regarding Dave's disillusionment with the superhero life, because he's "growing up" and doesn't want to escape anymore. Which is stupid, because Dave's just going to end up having nothing and missing the hero life again after they eventually break up or stop having the feelings they used to have for each other. In the real world, that kind of attraction and/or caring is merely a vestigial drive for reproduction that rarely lasts. But I will admit that to have it end that way is not bad either storywise. Plus, at least Kick-Ass won't go the way Supernatural went so long ago.

What I wish would happen: Hit-Girl lives & gets her own series. She's the only decent character in the whole series, everybody else is pretty much dispensable when it comes to a main act in either the irritating or boring way*. But meh, this will never happen, we all know Millar will kill her off while she is still a good character, instead of letting her rot like the Simpsons. But you can ignore this last paragraph, I just can't get enough of strong female characters who (for once) are legitimately well-written characters and aren't Lieutenant Barbie or Dr. Stripper PhD.

Okay, long rant over.

*aka, they're pretty much like the average person, especially how they put Hit-Girl on the back-burner to petty drama.
