COMICS: Shang-Chi Strikes This May in DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG-FU Limited Series

This May, the Master of Kung-Fu returns for an all-new limited series full of murder, mystery and martial arts in Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #1 – from the creative team of Mike Benson (Deadpool Pulp) and Tan Eng Huat (X-Men Legacy)! Check it out...

Hero. Teacher. Agent. Avenger. Shang-Chi has been many things. But this time, Marvel Universe’s most impressive hand-to-hand combatant is only one – vengeful! A highly trained MI-6 agent has been murdered in cold blood. One with deep ties to Shang-Chi’s past. As he journey’s to England to pay his respects, he’ll learn not all is as it seems. And if he’s not careful, he’s going to be the next body to drop!

“We’re really pushing Shang-Chi into the spotlight,” says series Editor Jake Thomas. “Here’s a guy who is part Bruce Lee, part James Bond, which seems like a perfect recipe to me! Mike’s written a story that is really going to surprise people, and getting Tan Eng Huat to draw wild kung-fu action sequences is an absolute dream. It’s got both cold, brutal espionage action along with the heart and soul of an old-school kung-fu quest. I could not possible be more excited for this story!” Old friends and new enemies lie around each and every turn. And Shang-Chi stands alone against scored of deadly foes. Don’t miss a minute of the action when espionage and kung-fu collide this May in DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG FU #1!

Very cool, always nice to see this character get some time in the spotlight. He and Iron Fist are definitely underused.

Love the character. Not diggin' the art style but I'll give it a try. The run he had in Secret Avengers was pretty awesome.

I loved the old Master Of Kung Fu series from the 70's! Shang-Chi's battles with Razorfist made for some pretty awesome comic book reading. And the Paul Gulacy art was a big influence on my own at the time.

Shang Chi > Batman.

Same here. I have an old issue of the 70's Master Of Kung Fu. Unfortunately it's not in the greatest condition. I keep it bagged with an old Shogun Warriors.

I often enjoyed reading that comic back in the 70's.

I love everything David Johnson does.
His composition skills and sense of color are amazing.
You can see that he's probably a trained fine artist as well.

Looks awesome, I love me some old style kung-fu

Shang Chi was THE most complex, best written character between '74 and '77.
I can only hope that this new incarnation will at least RESEMBLE that brilliant and unique characterization.
There are 20,000 heroes on the "edge of vengeance." We do NOT need Shang Chi to be a carbon copy of ANY of those kinds of grey are heroes. Shang Chi moral compass was as straight and narrow as Spider-Man's and Superman's (the one in the comics, not MOS). He was a good soul living and reluctantly fighting in the grey of a film noir world.
Again, all I ask is that he RESEMBLE that same person that Moench and Gulacy wrote about.

Shang-Chi's awesome. I'm really liking his run in the Avengers.

I always liked the character. Hate the way he is drawn here and also do not like the uniform they have given him. Needs to look like Bruce Lee. Anyway, will not be buying due to, imo, poor artwork.

70s Shang Chi was fantastic. The art was excellent, and the stories were pretty good! His connection to Fu Manchu (being his son and all), the bald MI6 guy (Smith if I remember correctly) Razor Fist (had blades for arms... good times. Hope these guys do for Shang Chi what Brubaker and Fraction did for Iron Fist (tell order, I know). Art looks okayish, I can see the allusion to Bruce Lee's "A Game of Death" suit, but nothing can beat this (even thou it doesn't work nowadays and is stereotypical as hell):

Im picking this up! But give me an Asian American superhero without the stereotypical martial arts! Gimme some laser beams! Telekinesis! Jizz from the eyes! Anything! haha
