COMICS: Is John Stewart About To Suffer A "Fatal Wound" In GREEN LANTERN CORPS #22?

There were rumours not too long ago that John Stewart would soon be killed off, and the cover for Green Lantern Corps #22 certainly seems to indicate that he may be in mortal peril! Hit the jump for a first look at the issue ahead of its release this Wednesday.

John Stewart is the only Lantern who knows about a terrible threat coming for the universe...but if he makes it back to Oa, will he choose to serve in an unrecognizable Corps made up of the strangest new recruits ever to wield a ring?

Kill off Baz or Kyle. John won't die.

Art is still amazing.
CharlieKelly - 7/8/2013, 8:24 AM
Always killing off the brothas
sameoldthing - 7/8/2013, 8:29 AM
As much as I like keeping to the originals..even Hal could die & I wouldn't care much.
I think John Stewart is a great GL & would add nice racial equality to Justice League if placed on the team.

It would be good for a black character NOT to have black in his codename.
Hope this is just an obstacle for John to battle through..killing him is weak DC.
mcminnjb1990 - 7/8/2013, 8:32 AM
Please dont kill john he is the best lantern by far. Kill kyle he is always bitching about something he deserves to die not stewert
marvel72 - 7/8/2013, 8:38 AM
kill them all apart from jordan & gardner.
LEVITIKUZ - 7/8/2013, 8:40 AM
Or they could kill Hal again. Gusto would love that.
AlternateNo4 - 7/8/2013, 9:09 AM
don't kill him now... the new 52 is the first time he's been written well since mosaic. kill gardner, he's an idiot and was only elevated to a major character because dc needed to pander to the lowbrow losers of the era. same people that made schwarzeneggar a star.

keep rayner white, and keep him in his own damn book and away from the glc.

You know what? Kill all the human Lanterns. Time for a change.

Hyperionsisthetruth - 7/8/2013, 9:20 AM
Kill the homosexual green lantern
pesmerga44 - 7/8/2013, 9:21 AM
I really don't think he is gonna die this is just to draw people into buying the comic.

Kill off Baz but not John Stewart. Watching the JL cartoon and JLU is even more reason of why he was such a great character.
GliderMan - 7/8/2013, 9:42 AM
John Stewart should be in JL movie.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 7/8/2013, 9:42 AM
Why are the constructs and energy glow kind of yellow?
v1101011 - 7/8/2013, 9:49 AM
"Kill off Baz or Kyle."

Kyle?? What is your problem? Kyle was the last well-written GL. Baz should go but you're high if you think they should kill off Kyle.
jimoakley666 - 7/8/2013, 9:51 AM
Nice artwork. Not a follower of the book but it looks nice.
charlie2094 - 7/8/2013, 9:57 AM
Cool, never really liked John Stewart so fine with this, change the focus onto the better Lanterns. He's always been really the most boring human lantern, even Baz is better as he has a very modern, and interesting origin. I will be so upset if Stewart becomes the Lantern in Justice League, has to be Hal.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 7/8/2013, 10:48 AM
Fatal as in Fatality, who used to try to kill John for destroying her homeworld but became a Star Sapphire. I'm guessing she's over the violet lovey dovey stuff.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 7/8/2013, 10:52 AM
You can even see her reflected in John's shiny gauntlet.
pesmerga44 - 7/8/2013, 12:19 PM
Oh and that last image looks like Salaak is going to go crazy and do something with the rings. Makes sense though he was always the most loyal Lantern to the Guardians and saw them as always right and for them to so deeply betray them it might [frick] with your head. Probably in the next few issues he will try to destroy the central battery or something along those lines in order to make sure the Guardians didn't leave anything behind.

P.S. Did Ganthet go all genocidal like his brethren or is still the only good Guardian.
Tevii - 7/8/2013, 12:26 PM
if they kill him he'll be back.

but get rid of crappy Kyle or Baz. such pointless GLs.
kyle has sucked since the beginning. the fact that he stayed around this long surprises me.

Tevii - 7/8/2013, 12:30 PM
MartianAbominationClone - "No one gives a shit about Kyle. Baz is there for PC reasons"

as much as I dont care for baz, your statement applies to John Stewart in the 70's and 80's... and he ended up being decent. but it was very much an attempt at diversity and an attempt to be PC.
HachibiTheMC - 7/8/2013, 12:38 PM
Nah, they basically emotion-raped him back into a typical non-feeling Smurf. Turned into the coldest of the cold-hearted little bastards. His fate is revealed in 1st Lantern story-arc.
HachibiTheMC - 7/8/2013, 12:45 PM
Get rid of Baz A-SAP!!! the hockey mask might be even more ridiculous than the domino mask.

Not to mention his ring is clearly prejudice lol...why didn't it just add a 7-digit serial number across his chest and glowy-green handcuffs to each wrist.

I'll even take more of the Redhead w/ daddy issues or even the Vagabond in All-white over the Terrorist/Hero/New Guy/Necromancer?????

If they kill John now that's just weak sauce.I've never had interest in Stewart and found his character often misunderstood by writers and boring until recently. He's finally coming into his own
SuperiorMrGod - 7/8/2013, 8:56 PM
I highly doubt they plan to kill him off, especially since in Green Lantern #21 he is shown to have a role in a future event. With that said I hope someone kills him off, he's a highly overrated character so sick of him.
PenditaMarah - 7/8/2013, 9:29 PM
I just wondered, why john stewart didnr wearing a mask, just like hal jordan and kyle?
ANIMUS84 - 7/8/2013, 11:28 PM
Whoooooooooo Cares?
AlternateNo4 - 7/9/2013, 4:40 PM
@penditamarah - i believe he said that early on, he didn't think people would trust a black man in a mask; they'd accuse him of stealing the ring or something. remember, it was the early 70s and the situation was a big deal.
