COMICS: Scott Lobdell Off RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS After Issue #18

It has been reported that writer Scott Lobdell will be dropping out of DC's Red Hood And The Outlaws series, with issue #18 being his last issue and James Tynion IV taking over. Read on for more details.

The folks over at Bleeding Cool have heard that writer Scott Lobdell will be off of DC Comics' Red Hood And The Outlaws ongoing series following issue #18, which will be released on March 20th, 2013. Scott Snyder protege James Tynion IV will be replacing him on the title. While Lobdell's work on the series hasn't exactly been well received by critics (it was a target for early critics on "The New 52"), what do you think of this news? Be sure to share your thoughts below in the comments.

• Jason Todd suffered terribly at the hands of The Joker in “DEATH OF THE FAMILY,” and now he’s changing the Outlaws’ mission!
• Something is bound to break with all that’s happened…will it be Jason’s soul?

WHAT?! That's pretty awesome! I think I gotta try it now!
Jaspion - 1/1/2013, 1:04 PM
He wears one of the coolest outfits

Havent read this title but I've never been keen on the idea of Jason being a hero. Liked him much more as a villain. Tynion's been working wonders on Talon. My favorite Bat book aside from Batman. His back ups in that are great too.
TheRock234 - 1/1/2013, 1:09 PM
Great now he can go on to making superman a emo jerry maguire seriously when is the last thing he has done. I liked him on the Hardy Boys and his age of apocalypse was alright pretty overated but he has done nothing.
DukeAcureds - 1/1/2013, 1:46 PM
They really don't care about creator's anymore, do they? As long as they don't drop the awesome team on I, Vampire. That and Batman Inc are the only books I'm still getting and I started out getting more than 40.
DukeAcureds - 1/1/2013, 1:46 PM
Cool cover, though.

Scott Lobdell is leaving Red Hood? And James Tynion IV is replacing him?

Holy crap, this book may just become readable now!

(Now if only they'd kick Lobdell off of Teen Titans, Superboy, and especially Superman, I'd be a happy guy!)

CapeWing - 1/1/2013, 2:31 PM
I've been a fan of this series since day one, however I have always wanted better writing and richer stories. Having Tynion on this book may very well be the answer it needs! Should be exciting :)
CapeWing - 1/1/2013, 2:32 PM
And bring on a Red Hood movie already, Jason Todd is too cool a character to leave on the side lines!!!

I hope they change the art team too, it's horrible since Rocafort left.

I think the best way to save this book is to make it only a Red Hood book. When Lobdell is writing Jason, it isn't bad, but the inclusion of Roy & Starfire seems so forced sometimes. I wouldn't be surprised if that is was Lobdell is leaving.

However, I'm pretty stoked to see Tynion taking over. He really is a great writer, and I'm happy to see how he can handle the trio. Perhaps he can change my mind about the team aspect of the comic.

ive enjoyed this series the outer space arc was ok, but overall this has been a great series
GLprime2814 - 1/1/2013, 3:33 PM
You know what DC has always needed punisher type character, and JT would fit perfectly, for a character like the punisher you need serious drive, and what better drive than trying to live up to poppa bats, but at same time saying fu I'm skill people.
ironpool007 - 1/1/2013, 3:45 PM
Good news indeed. Did not like how Lobdell was writing Jason Too. Keep Green on as artist but have him go back to his old style.
EtriganTheDemon - 1/1/2013, 3:59 PM
This could only mean good things for RHatO. I never followed it, but the crossover issues I read were great.
Tymminator - 1/1/2013, 4:01 PM
I want them to fix Starfire...they can say it was Blackfire for all I care.
Tomontherun99 - 1/1/2013, 4:34 PM
I liked this book and Lobdell can be a great writer like in this and... not so great as in Superman and Teen Titans but now Tynion has taken over I'm looking forward to see what he'll do with the characters

I like Lobdell from his X-Men days.

But yeah the new writer's Snyder influence is encouraging.

Bring Back Jason Todd and turning him into Red Hood was a Brilliant decision by DC Comics and it was worked exceptionally well...

Bringing back Peter Parker as Doc Ock is EPIC FAIL...

MisterBabadook - 1/1/2013, 10:19 PM
This should be good!
Jefferys - 1/2/2013, 2:21 AM
AUSSYFACE, sir, I'd like to disagree with your statement, for to place it into laymen's terms; it's a little like comparing a banana to an orange and liking the orange over the banana due to it's circular shape and colour. That being a pretty idiotic conclusion because they are nothing like each other… at all.

The whole Jason Todd story should have been compared to Bucky Barnes and his outcome. They both fell short of redemption, came back to haunt their former mentors and becoming unreluctant good guys.
To say who had the better aftermath is quite clear due to comparance of those here who have read both Winter Solider and this book are willing to accept that Bucky had more love due to the character being written by someone who knows where they're at. Plus, the supporting cast in WS are not as forced as they are in this.

I like this book, don't understand the hate.
mikesinuman - 1/2/2013, 10:37 AM
why is he called RED HOOD, he's not even wearing a hood. he should be called RED KAMEN or RED MASK. lol!
Mentok - 1/2/2013, 12:51 PM
I'Ve been a Lobdell fan since the 90´s and I loved his run in Red Hood. He's the only writer who could get me interested in a Bat-Family title. Sad to see him leave, hope the book stays as cool as when he was on.
MisterBabadook - 1/2/2013, 1:37 PM
Mikesinuman, he's called the "Red Hood" because in the 1940s when the original Red Hood appeared, he was a Hoodlum who wore a Red mask. It was a pretty lengthy issue and at the very end, in the final page they reveal the shocking twist that it was the Joker the whole time. It's still, to this day, a really good read.
Nivekian - 1/2/2013, 4:36 PM
mikesinuman: Are you kidding? Go back to watching anime cartoons, this is obviously outside your scope.
scrappybuttons - 1/2/2013, 11:03 PM
Lobdell sucks anyway. And ever since he wrote Bats taking a night off to cuddle a sick Jason Todd Ive actually hated him.
scrappybuttons - 1/2/2013, 11:03 PM
...You're an idiot.
ToddDamian - 1/6/2013, 2:49 PM
Jason Todd deserves better treatment than he's been getting. Under the Hood showed him as a complete badass, and he was deadly in Battle for the Cowl, but everything else has been pretty spotty. Even his appearance in the first volume of Batman & Robin with Scarlet was a little off, though Morrison's fixed that with him as Wingman in Batman Inc. I also agree that Red Hood should be a solo title instead of a team-up; him and Arsenal is a sensible duo, but Starfire just seems a little random.
SMASH25 - 1/6/2013, 9:23 PM
I actually like Lobdell's run on Red Hood. Especially his tie in with Death of the Family. I do want to point out that this a rumor posted on Bleeding Cool and nothing official has been announced.
