More Clues On The Identity Of DC's New Gay Character

Yesterday, it was revealed that DC are planning to bring back a pre-existing character but at the cost of altering his or her sexuality. DC's VP revealed a few more details about this character today.

Yesterday, Dan Didio broke the news that they were planning on bringing back a DC character but making said character come out of the closet. Well today, DC’s Senior vice president Courtney Simmons revealed more details on this mystery character.

“One of the major iconic DC characters will reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June”


Well at least now we have confirmation that the character is, in fact, a male and is apparently a pretty big deal to the point where she referred to him as "iconic".

All though again no name was given, at least we can narrow down some of the options now. Who do you think this mystery character is? Make sure to leave your thoughts below! Apologies in the advance for the disturbing picture.

the most iconic dc characters are superman,batman,wonder woman,the flash,green lantern & aquaman.

i can only see them turning wonder woman gay,dc haven't got the balls turning the likes of batman or superman they'd lose too many readers.

#1 had to save that picture to my iPad lol. And #2 I am thinking Alan Scott. At first I thought Wally West but since this will be revealed in June I doubt it is him. Alan is the obvious choice, he is iconic enough to have this hype over it, and he lives in a parallel world so it gives the same effect as miles morales in ult. Spidey, a character I enjoy btw, but alternate realities mean creators are exempt from backlash. "don't worry guys, the actual green lantern is still straight" just like "come one guys, he is an alternate reality Spider-Man, regular spidey is still whiter than wonder bread". I am not completely opposed to the change to Alan Scott ( or whatever character it really is) I just hope being gay does not become their dominant "thing". In the Scott example I'd like to be able to refer to him not as just "the gay green lantern"

I'm like 100% positive it's Shazam. It just makes sense. They're telling the origin story in the back of every current Justice League comic and he's yet to become 'Shazam' yet.

This is a character they're reintroducing. That means he hasn't appeared in the DCnU, yet. The only iconic male character I can think of who has yet to debut in the New 52 is Wally West.

I refuse to call Billy Batson's alter ego "Shazam." He is and will always be Captain Marvel as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think it will or should be Hawkman, not with the whole backstory with Shayera. It would be a slap in the face to throw out the most interesting aspect of the Hawkman story. Wally West is a possibility. It could be one of the Lanterns. Aquaman is too obvious and again it would mean throwing out one of the coolest aspects of Aquaman's story.

If done well, then it could work, but if done as a gimmick, then that would just be frustrating. Seeing as we are becoming more accepting in society, which is good, I think such things as homosexuals, equal rights and ethnic minorities should be introduced seeing as a lot of these comics were first published at a time of intolerance, so they all need to get with the times

I hope it has something to do with Earth 2. I would be pretty upset if it was Wally West. They were saying not to long ago that "they haven't forgotten about him". Let's just call it a day and make Beast boy gay. Think of all the fun things he could do.

However, people want, as we sooo often hear on this site, relatable characters, which will mean knowing stuff like this about them. So I do not see why this is a problem.

Excellent point. Why do they have to mess with a previous character. All the iconic characters have been around for 60+ years. There hasn't been any character that iconic made for a long time. They try to, using gimmicks and stuff like this. But they won't. Because we don't want it. They try to make something bigger than it is. They're desperate. They need to take back and look at what made the originals so great... definitely not political stunts like this!

this is ridiculous. DC is not doing this for the sake of storytelling, but rather, to make themselves seem "hip" (or whatever word you prefer) to a certain minority group. why not address every characters religious beliefs? or if they're Republican or Democratic? if they prefer boxers or briefs.....nevermind, that one is kind of obvious.

I didn't read all of the above comments, so sorry if someone has already pointed this out. If they're introducing them now, it's no one currently in the New 52. My guess would be Alan Scott, since he's making his debut in Earth 2 very soon. Wally West is another possibility, but I find that unlikely, as I don't think he's going to be in any upcoming series. I'm a DC fanatic, but it sounds to me like they're just trying to generate some buzz and not actually develop the character.

I've lost major respect for DC over this. This whole thing is bullshit and its being done for the same reason that Dumbledore was made gay and thats just because its the new it thing. They are doing it to generate some controversy and to seem like they are diverse. Its bullcrap and I dont support it in any way. Instead of making an already established heterosexual character gay why not grow a pair and make a character who just happens to be gay instead of making characters sexuality a spectacle. Why the hell does sexuality even really have to be addressed? I want heroes fighting crime and what not.

Honestly Batman makes the most since. He dated lots of beautiful women just as cover to his "secret life". He had a couple different boys who stayed with him and he dressed them in skimpy colorful outfits. And even within the Justice League he is seen as an outsider.

Honestly the similarities between someone who is closeted and Batman are pretty amazing. Characters it doesn't make since with is Hal Jordan because he was always a ladies man, Superman because of his epic romance with Louis Lane, & Aquaman because no one cares about him. I don't really know enough about Flash or the other Green Lanterns to give an opinion on them.

I'm not up to scratch on the new 52, but could there be a clue in the sentence iconic... I'm not sure if he has already been introduced but could it be ICON!?
