SHAZAM! Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Teases His Role In The DC Cinematic Universe

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has dropped a pretty big hint as to who he might be playing in the DC Cinematic Universe, and it sounds very much like we should expect to see him as Justice League member, Shazam. An official announcement is also said to be coming soon...

While speaking to Total Film about his upcoming film, Hercules, Dwayne Johnson was asked about what DC character he'd most like to play. While he first tried to dodge the question, he ended dropping a HUGE hint about which character he has been meeting DC about and also revealed that there will be an announcement soon (hello, Comic Con). The most recent rumour was that he was up for the role of Darkseid but looks like his role will be that of a hero. Check it out!

I still think he's best suited for Black Adan but Shazam could work too.

I couldn't make an article because I'm at work and using my phone lol

He's definitely playing Shazam or Black Adam. There is no doubt about it after that interview.

I hope it's Black Adam.

i'd rather him play black adam than shazam.
Darthzilla - 7/21/2014, 4:41 AM
It's Black Adam. He didn't say it was a hero
whoa123 - 7/21/2014, 4:42 AM
I'd love to see him play Black Adam but I don't think he can pull off the accent. If he played Shazam though, I think he can pull that one off because of his charisma.
TopCat89 - 7/21/2014, 4:43 AM
Prefer 'Black Adam'

Rocky always knew how 2 sell those Stunners lol
DEVLIN712 - 7/21/2014, 4:54 AM
That must be one of DC's SDCC announcements
DEVLIN712 - 7/21/2014, 4:59 AM
Does this also mean that the JL's Green Lantern will be Hal?
AreTudaEDub - 7/21/2014, 5:02 AM
He ended the interview with....."JUST SAY THE WORD". We know he's gonna gonna be slightly comedic in the role. It's definitely Shazam!!!,!
mgeoff88 - 7/21/2014, 5:10 AM
I thought The Rock would be playing John Stewart, but it sounds like he is actually playing Shazam.

Personally, I would rather seem him play a hero than a villain. That's just me though.
Enphlieuwince - 7/21/2014, 5:17 AM
Yeah, he didn't say he was a hero though so there's still a sliver of hope for him playing Black Adam. I think he has the chops to pull off a villain.

This guy should be Shazam.

giannis - 7/21/2014, 5:24 AM
^ Joe Manganiello should play Ultraman
feedonatreefrog - 7/21/2014, 5:26 AM
Technically Black Adam "says the word" too, but I'd be stoked either way.

He has qualities for both.

When he talks about his own strengths on screen, he could be referring to a certain charm/goofiness, which would be perfect for Shazam, or he could be referring to a certain quiet hardcore badass quality, which would be perfect for Black Adam.
feedonatreefrog - 7/21/2014, 5:27 AM
Joe Manganiello for .....

Black Adam
Hal Jordan
Desrow - 7/21/2014, 5:28 AM

Yeah, pretty sure it gonna announce that on comic-con or right after.

Just read the new 52 Shazam origin so I can totally get behind a Shazam film. If Rock is playing Shazam or Black Adam, I wonder who could play the character he isn't playing?
MrFantastic - 7/21/2014, 5:41 AM
Personally, I think Dwayne Johnson would be a great Shazam.

Now, he's campaigned to play Black Adam in the past few years….. what if he played both roles? It would really give him a chance to extend his acting range by being hero and villain.
AntMan - 7/21/2014, 5:46 AM
I hope the movie is heavily influenced by Geoff John's Shazam! (New 52). It's by far the best take on Captain Marvel Shazam's origin.
Pasto - 7/21/2014, 5:48 AM
Baby please.........DON'T GOOOOOOOOO!
KeithM - 7/21/2014, 5:49 AM
I haven't seen all his films, but I don't think I've ever seen him play a bad guy. His previous roles, his "baggage" all seem to point a likeable tough guy who has a good rapport with kids. Shazam it is then.
gambgel - 7/21/2014, 5:50 AM
The Rock leading a solo superhero movie?

not interested. I think this might be the first superhero movie I will avoid in the next years

Brainiac13 - 7/21/2014, 5:52 AM
I hope it's Black Adam but funny feeling it's Captain Marvel. Either way...... :)

codydriscollsrightarm - 7/21/2014, 5:53 AM
"There's a character out there that we're gonna announce very soon, that I'm gonna play..."

BOOM. See you at Comic Con, Mr. Rock (or should I call you The?)

People say they want him to play Black Adam because of the color of his skin. That's it.

He's better suited to play Captain Marvel, The Rock is so charismatic he can breeze through the role.

I've been saying that for years.
codydriscollsrightarm - 7/21/2014, 5:57 AM
Not to the mention that, if he plays Shazam and he gets his own movie, that'd be the first big CBM with a person of color as a protagonist.

Which is just awesome.
