Excerpt From Rob Liefeld's ICONS Script, Based On The Highs And Lows Of Launching IMAGE

Also, Liefeld has given his recommendations for who should play himself and his Image co-founders. Chris Pine as Liefeld, John Cho as Jim Lee, Christian Bale as Todd McFarlane and more. Regardless of what you think about Rob this would definitely be an interesting movie.

Icons by Rob Liefeld

Image Comics was founded in 1992 by Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, Jim Valentino, and of course, Liefeld. At the time, these were the Scott Snyders' and Brian Michael Bendis' of the comic industry. Plagued by massive shipping delays and infighting, the initial model for Image collapsed in 1996 with Liefeld's resignation as CEO. There's MUCH more to this story but I won't spoil it here because if this does become a movie, it would be a DAMN good one.

Below you can read a few excerpts from Liefeld's script. The comic creator has stated that he'll share it with any of the Image founders who ask. Plus, he's also given some casting suggestions as to who he'd like to see portray himself and his peers. Be sure to head over to DreamMovieCast and give them some traffic for this awesome story.

Who are his recommendations for who should play them? I vote Meryl Streep for Liefield.
DukeAcureds - 1/22/2013, 1:49 PM
Nothing like a bit of self-promotion. Maybe he should get a real writer to do this, though.
invalensname5 - 1/22/2013, 1:50 PM
"there is no BIGGER influence on my career in comics than Todd McFarlane. He taught me more than I could possibly ever address"... except how to draw feet... and the female form... and guns... and.... just go home, Rob.
LEEE777 - 1/22/2013, 1:51 PM

Hey I still got issue 1 on of Spawn, Youngblood, Wildcats, Maxx, Savage Dragon etc, ain't worth much though... : D

Hi @ VAL!
CaptainObvious - 1/22/2013, 1:52 PM
Man, this was unreadable. Liefeld's dialouge is the kind of dialouge a 10 year old writes and is later ashamed of when he grows up.
invalensname5 - 1/22/2013, 1:58 PM
Liefield should be ashamed of everything he does!

Hey Leee!

This is [frick]ing catastrophic... I can't even tell if it's meant to read like a spoof or not! [frick]ing atrocious, terrible, what a piece of shit. Much like the rest of Liefeld's collected body of work. How does this hack still get work? He's so shit!
Jollem - 1/22/2013, 2:26 PM
rock stars
McGribble - 1/22/2013, 3:05 PM
I would watch this to laugh at how Rob is so dwarfed by the talent of all the other artists. Looking back his art is such crap!
Supernature - 1/22/2013, 3:07 PM
Why does he exist ?
Dobler - 1/22/2013, 3:08 PM
What a tool. I've never understood how this guy did ANYTHING. I think he fooled everyone for a split second, then everyone realized his characters had no wrists.
Dobler - 1/22/2013, 3:12 PM
Oh, and...

Spideyguy94 - 1/22/2013, 4:35 PM
My god this is the worst dialogue I've ever read. I honestly think my 8 year old sister could write better dialogue. That being said I'd love to see a movie about the creation of image, or even a documentary on it. Obviously without this hack anywhere near it.
Nemeres - 1/22/2013, 4:36 PM
I've been FASCINATED for the longest time with the history of Image comics, and a movie about it is a must. I just don't think it should be Liefeld writing the screenplay. He would leave out all the fascinating dirt, especially the stuff that would make him look like the dodgy dude he was. To any financier or producer considering this: they didn't get Mark Zuckerberg to write The Social Network, now, did they?
RexDartEskimoSpy - 1/22/2013, 4:54 PM
At the time, these were the Scott Snyders' and Brian Michael Bendis' of the comic industry.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Bendis and Snyder are writers. Most of the Image founders are pretty good artists, but pretty lousy writers.
Asterisk - 1/22/2013, 5:55 PM
It would be an interesting movie, to be sure, but not with THIS script.
KeefNCookies - 1/22/2013, 5:58 PM
How would this be an interesting movie..?
marvel72 - 1/22/2013, 6:50 PM
liefield! mcfarlane should of taught you how to draw.
Boogie138 - 1/22/2013, 8:26 PM
come on guys! his version would be the definition of a cult film!! you guys really wouldn't want that cast to deliver those scenes? you guys are crazy, lol what a great idea
Shadowelfz - 1/22/2013, 8:49 PM
Man is it just me or does Liefeld have the most punchable looking face ever? Like a cross between a gopher and the mad magazine guy.
Shadowelfz - 1/22/2013, 8:53 PM
Wow and talk about shitty writing. Dude is trying so hard to make himself look cool with Eazy-E and Todd acting like he's intimidated. Whatever dude.
Logan5 - 1/22/2013, 10:12 PM
This is a good idea.., but does Liefield roid it? His art sucked.., he maintained balance.., not on my 12 year old coin: Portacio and Simonson were my favs of that era at Marvel. I'm not gonna' lie.., I love his Plissken-esque attitude towards life and the industry, but his art is nothing greater than what I could chuck out in a weekend with a 24-pack. Just being sincere as the unidentified coward.., but come on folks! He was sh!t! Rob.., put your testoseroniballs back into your geriatric, Patriot loving right hand and make shit happen! You seem like you could handle an office brawl. :-P
Logan5 - 1/22/2013, 10:18 PM
In the professionalism meme.., he kinda' looks the way he draws his characters. I know ILM artists that self portrait for reference.., but if the ScarJo hacker is out there... :-P
Logan5 - 1/22/2013, 10:20 PM
Cipher: John Glover, Vincent Price.., Mako......, [frick]i^g awesome!
Logan5 - 1/22/2013, 10:31 PM
I'm done.., but real quick.., who wants this? I welcomed McFarlane whoring up until the live action '97 Spawn pile. There's no coming back from that. Stick to sports action figures Todd of ToddToys. :-P Sincerely I have a some of your toys and they are statues in the 'guise of action figures. Guess today's generation is the "have your cake and eat it, too," despite being able to actually do that. LMAO!
casanovagunny - 1/23/2013, 1:11 AM
This may be interesting since I grew up collecting and reading Image when they started. Big fan of Spawn, Pitt, and Savage Dragon.
RPD - 1/23/2013, 1:36 AM
Why do people hate him so much? It can't just be because of his art...
JohnWilbanks - 1/23/2013, 4:08 AM
@RPD I don't get it either. I think his art is great, I also enjoyed his recent runs on Deathstroke, Grifter, and Savage Hawkman. He is created two of the biggest characters in Marvel history, helped start the third biggest comic book company, and is still (after 20 years) sought after by DC and Marvel to do work.

If he was so horrible, I don't think he would still be working at all... Count me as a Liefeld fan!

ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 1/23/2013, 5:01 AM
chris pine as liefeld?

Betty - 1/23/2013, 6:26 AM
It's funny when Rob tries to do stuff.
Boogie138 - 1/23/2013, 8:46 AM
still in shock you guys don't want this movie, this way.
JohnWilbanks - 1/23/2013, 8:54 AM
@imadick So what's he done that's considered douchebaggery?
MarkJulian - 1/23/2013, 10:06 AM
You guys are smoking. You make not like his art style but what he and the other Image founders did revolutionized the industry.
Tman - 1/24/2013, 12:46 AM
He looks more like Matt Damon. From that interview he seems like a cool guy. Got to be interviewed by Stan Lee at 23 is a dream come true for most aspiring comic artists. I remember his first Hawk and Dove mini series inked by Karl Kesel. It was really good.
sameoldthing - 1/24/2013, 8:21 AM
I took a big crap yesterday & before I flushed it I thought..
Hey,that looks like Rob Liefeld. My turd could portray him in a movie, perfect casting!
