COMICS: FF Connecting Variants Put The Spotlight On New Character "Miss Thing" And More

Comics Alliance have posted a selection of variants for Matt Fraction (Invincible Iron Man) and Mike Allred's (Daredevil) upcoming Marvel NOW! series, FF. Check out the 'Ant-Man', 'Medusa', 'Miss Thing' and 'She-Hulk' covers here.

As Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and The Thing head off-world with Franklin and Valeria Richards on an epic adventure in the pages of Matt Fraction and Mark Bagley's Fantastic Four, FF will see Ant-Man (Scott Lang) leading a squad of heroes which includes Medusa, She-Hulk and all-new character Miss Thing. "It's a dark twist on what the Fantastic Four is about — it's the other side of the coin," Fraction said of the series earlier this month. Miss Thing has been describe as a "Lohan-esque celebutante blonde" who dons armor based on, well, you can work that one out for yourselves. In the covers below, each of the team get their moment in the spotlight courtesy of artist Mike Allred, and as you can see, all four covers connect to one another.

Ummm... Why is Medusa joining the FF? She's a Inhuman? Also is that Ant-Man O'Grady? Because if he is, he's either replaced or a traitor as seen in some of the latest issues of Secret Avengers.

This makes me almost wanna vomit. lol

Your mom in Thing cosplay!
weaponX2 - 8/23/2012, 9:32 AM
the artwork is total crap...looks like some of the old 1970's art...which was great at the time, but by today's standards it just doesn't hold up...and to be honest, I'm not too crazy about the team in general except for She-Hulk, since she was a member of the team once...not excited for this at all
cmax - 8/23/2012, 9:36 AM
Allred is a great artist. But Miss thing just ruins this for me.

He draws a gorgeous She-Hulk though.
randomality85 - 8/23/2012, 9:46 AM
These are great! A lot of these artists are trained and can do stylized reality if they want to. Minimalism and creating a signature style like this takes restraint and control that a lot of people lack. Anyone can draw, few can get remembered. Just like JRJR, say what you will, but he is a well known artist with his own style that is easily recognizable from others.

I'm thinking that Ant-Man is Henry. Not sure, however.
csdot - 8/23/2012, 9:53 AM
jesus cant anyone read? its SCOTT LANG. and LOL at people complaining about Allred's artwork, as dumb as this concept may be his artwork is amazing.
95 - 8/23/2012, 9:54 AM
I'm not feeling this one. All-New X-Men is gonna be a winner, though.
vxMaverickxv - 8/23/2012, 9:56 AM
this is a joke right?
95 - 8/23/2012, 9:58 AM
Is this suppose to be rehab-version of the Fantastic Four? That whole "dark side" they're talking about is really the only thing that would make me give this a shot.
SUPERSHADOWBAT - 8/23/2012, 10:10 AM
Hmmmm, I don't know about this. I have always liked Medusa and She Hulk though.
NorrinRaddical - 8/23/2012, 10:11 AM
jesus christ, FF was originally about fun, family, and imagination. Allred's the PERFECT artist to bring back some of that Kirby sense of wonder the book had its first 102 issues.

Matt Fraction is a GREAT writer! Allred is a GREAT artist!
what's the worry?

Allred had a ton of fun with X-Force and gave us Doop, and i think that's why we have something as goofy as "Ms. Thing". it's a bit of a throwback, sure, but at least it isn't grim n gritty 90s

lighten up a little, yeesh
NorrinRaddical - 8/23/2012, 10:12 AM
Nomis - i truthfully feel like given their body of work, Kirby would be happy to have had such immense influence over creators like Allred, Bruce Timm, and Darwyn Cooke.
thunderforce - 8/23/2012, 10:23 AM
So she would be like iron man fighting baddies in his armor with no helmet , she should last about one or two battles then get a super punch to the head and die a horrible bloody death .
scapegoatjones - 8/23/2012, 10:31 AM
A great title for a Ms. Thing solo run:

LordHuck - 8/23/2012, 10:31 AM
Might be the worst thing I have seen in years
KrazyForKomix - 8/23/2012, 10:38 AM
superotherside - Medusa has hung out with (and substituted in) the FF a number of times. So has She-Hulk. But what am a Miss Thing? Even Stan might cock his head at that one. HOWEVER . . .
NorrinRaddical is dead on correct! I can't wait for their version the FF Space Opera! This does NOT mean that I'm glad Hickman is gone. NO! And NO again! He was (is) the best FF writer since Stan himself. But lets see what fun Fraction and Allred can get them into.

God I hope Miss Thing gets killed off really fast
Cosmic1 - 8/23/2012, 10:49 AM
I like the style, today's comic art doesn't hold a candle to that of yesteryear, pluses when it comes to inking and coloring it is all done in photoshop and illustrator and takes no real skill. This style of art stands out among most books today and gives the comic more of a fantasy nOn reality, which is what comics are supposed to be. I don't enjoy looking at mOdern comic art the way I do old stuff this is a fresh and much needed change. That said miss thing is stupid.
RalphieW - 8/23/2012, 10:49 AM
This is Matt Fraction, and there is a character called Miss Thing... I... don't understand... Two theroys, a very late April Fools joke, or a Skull impersonating Matt Fraction trying to ruin his name...
RalphieW - 8/23/2012, 10:51 AM
Also, replace her with Luke Cage and this is awesome!
MrDuck - 8/23/2012, 10:55 AM
TheStranger - 8/23/2012, 10:56 AM
It has happened, Marvel has actually topped the horrid levels of stupidity that the "Ultimates" Universe was. I didn't think anything could be worse than Ultimate Marvel...this has proved me wrong.
CherryBomb - 8/23/2012, 10:59 AM
The art is hideous.

Although I do love Medusa.
plasticman - 8/23/2012, 11:26 AM
I have a feeling that we will all love the character of Miss Thing by the end of the year. Maybe this is a really bad publicity stunt. I see a joke just in her name: miss thing. With the target audience the reason she was brought in was to attract attention to this new take because something is "miss-th-ing." Get it, something is missing.

She-Hulk is already the strong one...they need a flyer with projectiles on this team. Wait for Tony Stark to stop by, mention how ridiculous she looks, have a one night stand, and then build her an Miss Iron suit.

I know I'm stretching it, but I want there to be hope in this concept for the House of Ideas.

xstryker - 8/23/2012, 11:46 AM
Why is Johnny dressing up his new girlfriend like his best friend Ben? That is some seriously creepy cosplay right there.
danica2334 - 8/23/2012, 11:50 AM
*facepalm this looks horribal .
Shadowelfz - 8/23/2012, 11:56 AM
You would think that with the thousands, maybe MILLIONS of aspiring artists out there Marvel and DC would use their ample resources to find someone who can draw better than that.

I bet they just write it off as '60's nostalgia' and 'stylized.'
ralfinader - 8/23/2012, 12:25 PM
I want what they are smoking at Marvel. Miss Thing..has there ever been a worse sounding idea in the history of comics? And yet, if they could sell Doop, maybe this will be the sleeper (s)hit of the NOW stuff.
niknik - 8/23/2012, 12:44 PM
Thats not 70's style art. That's more like early 60's artwork, although even then the work from guys like Kirby, Ditko, Kane et al was better than this. This is more like Don Heck. That's just plain too simplistic of a style no matter what decade it's in. I realize Allred is trying to go "Don Heck" with this bit, but it just doesn't work for me. Don't get me wrong: as far as trying for a early 60's Don Heck\Joe Sinnot look, he nailed it. I just never liked that basic artwork even back then and even less now.

and as for Miss Thing??? As Ben Grimm might say: They are smokin' old tennis shoes. The House of Ideas is officially boarded up and condemned.

Polygame - 8/23/2012, 12:51 PM
"...It take a lot of restraint for talented people to do minimalism drawing"???

Come On!! Minimalism is lazy people with lack of talent plain and simple. A 10 years old kid can draw better than that. If they already have talent to do better why don't they?

I will go to work today, doing only 10% of what I am capable of, and tell my boss that it is "minimalism"..

comicb00kguy - 8/23/2012, 12:54 PM
Unlike many here, I actually like the minimalist style on the art. It has a charming retro look to it. Connecting covers is a rotten idea, though. Sounds like something straight from the '90s.

Hey, does anyone else here remember when Wizard used to do the "Mort of the Month" to spotlight some of the stupidest character ideas in comics history? Miss Thing would sure belong on that list if they still did that. That has to be one of the dumbest-looking character designs I've seen in a long time.
Turtlestrong - 8/23/2012, 12:56 PM
if you are going to do something like Miss Thing, why not make it Aicia? Or whatever that girl Thing dated, the blind one. Maybe make it where she wears a special helmet too so she can see lol....

Anyway, rather than Miss Thing, maybe Storm since her and Panther aren't together anymore and with the x-men on the fritz she is open to taking a break and gets picked by Sue again as her replacement.
