COMICS: First Details And Artwork For THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN Revealed
USA Today have revealed our first look at The Superior Spider-Man. The relaunched series will replace The Amazing Spider-Man after issue #700 hits stands on December 26th. Whatever happens in that landmark issue will result in a very new direction for Peter Parker, with the site describing it as, "a far darker Spider-Man than fans have ever seen." "The one thing that does not go with this Spider-Man is the term 'Friendly neighborhood,'" says series writer Dan Slott. "I've always been the omniscient hand that's been protecting Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and not letting anything too bad happen to him. And now I've become this cruel god. There's something exciting about that, about going, 'Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha, here is what's going to happen to you, Spider-Man!' And it's drastic and it's big and it's exciting and it's never been done before."
Prepare yourselves for a "dark" Spider-Man. Dan Slott and artists Ryan Stegman, Humberto Ramos and Giuseppe Camuncoli will be launching Superior Spider-Man next January as a part of "Marvel NOW!". Read on for details, the cover for issue #1 and concept art of Spidey's new suit.
As well as Humberto Ramos and Giuseppe Camuncoli, Fantastic Four and Scarlet Spider artist Ryan Stegman will be on art duties for the first three-issue arc, "Hero Or Menace". "His belt looks a little different, and there's points at the end of his glove that add a little aggressiveness to his costume," explains the artist, also promising that Spidey will be getting some new abilities. The Sinister Six will also be returning, while Stegman goes on to discuss that he'll be delivering a unique take on the supporting cast. "I try to keep the history in mind. A lot of guys make Aunt May almost look like a witch, which is something I want to stay away from. Just because you're old, you don't have to look like a monster."
