COMICS: First Details And Artwork For THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN Revealed

Prepare yourselves for a "dark" Spider-Man. Dan Slott and artists Ryan Stegman, Humberto Ramos and Giuseppe Camuncoli will be launching Superior Spider-Man next January as a part of "Marvel NOW!". Read on for details, the cover for issue #1 and concept art of Spidey's new suit.

USA Today have revealed our first look at The Superior Spider-Man. The relaunched series will replace The Amazing Spider-Man after issue #700 hits stands on December 26th. Whatever happens in that landmark issue will result in a very new direction for Peter Parker, with the site describing it as, "a far darker Spider-Man than fans have ever seen." "The one thing that does not go with this Spider-Man is the term 'Friendly neighborhood,'" says series writer Dan Slott. "I've always been the omniscient hand that's been protecting Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and not letting anything too bad happen to him. And now I've become this cruel god. There's something exciting about that, about going, 'Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha, here is what's going to happen to you, Spider-Man!' And it's drastic and it's big and it's exciting and it's never been done before."

As well as Humberto Ramos and Giuseppe Camuncoli, Fantastic Four and Scarlet Spider artist Ryan Stegman will be on art duties for the first three-issue arc, "Hero Or Menace". "His belt looks a little different, and there's points at the end of his glove that add a little aggressiveness to his costume," explains the artist, also promising that Spidey will be getting some new abilities. The Sinister Six will also be returning, while Stegman goes on to discuss that he'll be delivering a unique take on the supporting cast. "I try to keep the history in mind. A lot of guys make Aunt May almost look like a witch, which is something I want to stay away from. Just because you're old, you don't have to look like a monster."

I hate you Marvel.
CaptainObvious - 10/10/2012, 12:14 PM
If this turns out the way I think it will, then not even reversing One More Day will get me to read Spider-Man again.

The last time Marvel meddled with Spider-Man drastically, we got the Clone Saga.
NerdyGeek - 10/10/2012, 12:15 PM
[frick], [frick], [frick] Marvel Now!
DarkGrifter - 10/10/2012, 12:16 PM
"aggressive" "black" "non-emotional"
Seems more like The Superior Spider-Goth.
CaptainObvious - 10/10/2012, 12:17 PM
It's almost as if Marvel is doing everything in their power to get us to hate them.
JordanKing - 10/10/2012, 12:22 PM
Should have renamed the event Marvel WHY? Just one pointless change after another.

JoshWilding - 10/10/2012, 12:22 PM
That costume design is a joke. Whatever happens in Amazing Spider-Man #700 is enough to make Peter design an "aggressive" suit with "non-emotional" eyes. Say what you will about Joe Quesada, but Axel Alonso is THE worst thing to ever happen to Marvel. I won't be buying barely any of the Marvel NOW! titles; they've lost £40+ a month of my money.
OrganizedChaos - 10/10/2012, 12:23 PM
umm he doesn't look so superior on that cover
DarkGrifter - 10/10/2012, 12:23 PM
It can't be racist one of our other Spider-men is black...I mean African-American!
rebellion - 10/10/2012, 12:24 PM
''dark''. i'm starting to hate that word.
PsyGuy - 10/10/2012, 12:27 PM
terrible title...
someone's got an ego issue.
CaptainObvious - 10/10/2012, 12:28 PM
I don't care how much Marvel wants to tinker with Spidey's costume. The public will always see Spidey in red and blue. By the way, why the hell does he have talons?
rebellion - 10/10/2012, 12:28 PM
and they're probably gonna kill mj. ugh.
ATrueHero1987 - 10/10/2012, 12:29 PM
SEE I told y'all Spidey was getting a suit change/update! There was nothing wrong with red & blue.smh
BigDamnHero - 10/10/2012, 12:31 PM
I'm not gonna judge it too much till I read it... But this has made me pretty nervous. They had better not turn Spidey into the Punisher.
KaneVonDoom - 10/10/2012, 12:33 PM
The Tabi toes makes sense for Spidey. I like the costume design changes but find the talons a bit odd. It'll be interesting to see how they're used.
jimpinto24 - 10/10/2012, 12:34 PM
I don't mind the custome change, but why does Spider-Man have to go down a dark road? Spider-Man is not a dark character. Plus, I heard Dan Slott is putting claws on Peter! WHY????
ATrueHero1987 - 10/10/2012, 12:36 PM
I agree some characters need a costume change/update(Magneto needs one) but some you shouldn't mess Spider-Man. Part of me is not really sweating this because I have a feeling that they will go back a few month after the release of the first issue.

luckylu - 10/10/2012, 12:44 PM
why the [frick] does everything need to be black?
DiLusso - 10/10/2012, 12:47 PM
I'm taking bets before they launch 'ANOTHER BRAND NEW DAY, AGAIN!'
JordanKing - 10/10/2012, 12:49 PM
Was reading AvX consequences, and literally couldn't concentrate on what Cap was saying. He looks like a total goofball. His suit is just way too messy, with not a lot of function.

"Retractable claws on big toe....."

Spidey has a camel toe??

I'm gonna have to give this sometime to think about, but until then......

TheAmazingSpidey63 - 10/10/2012, 1:01 PM
When they say "a far darker Spider-Man than fans have ever seen," I HOPE that doesn't mean "Punisher/Batman"-type 'dark'. Spider-Man isn't the type of hero that needs to have 'dark' dark stories or events to him. I mean, he did have his dark moments in his previous stories/adventures, indeed, but it wasn't, again, "Punisher/Batman"-type 'dark'. It was "Spider-Man"-type dark, y'know? Spider-Man is Spider-Man. He's the friendly-nighborhood, wise-cracking, bad@$$ Spider-Man. There is no need for these 'dark' moments/times for him just so sales can go up for Marvel. C'mon, Marvel. Don't ruin Spidey, my #1 superhero. Just sayin'. :(
nowtheresaBATman - 10/10/2012, 1:04 PM
Out of the Blue

FightAs0ne - 10/10/2012, 1:04 PM
No thanks Marvel I'll just stick to Ult. Spidey.
GoILL - 10/10/2012, 1:05 PM
