Captain America and Uncanny Avengers writer Rick Remender brings Bucky back (ahead of his return in the Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie) for a tale set in 1966; a period during which Cap's former sidekick was under the control of the Soviets!

1966: With Nick Fury missing, and presumed dead, global espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D. sends secret agent Ran Shen to collect two Nazi scientists with the key to defining who wins the Cold War. But the Americans are not the only ones who want the high value scientists. The Soviets have opened the Red Room, releasing their most dangerous operative --The Winter Soldier, who unbeknownst to the world, is the presumed-dead partner of Captain America—Bucky Barnes! The brainwashed soldier's mission: to acquire the scientists by any means or to kill them should they fall into American hands. This classic 60's style, high-octane, spy pulp told at Cold War's peak follows Ran Shen and his terrified scientists as they creep out of the shadow of East Berlin. Intrigue, adventure, romance and murder abound with ramifications that will shatter relationships in the modern-day Marvel Universe—including one with the Star Spangled Avenger himself!

Nick Fury has an eyepatch!

Remender is not only talented, but he's a really cool guy in real life.

I actually did a back-cover for him years ago when he was working on 'Sea of Red' over at Image. I did something for 'Fear Agent' as well but I don't know if it made print or not.

Would like to be excited, but have been super disappointed by Remender's run on Captain America, no longer read it anymore

Hope this turns out well though
tomasocelot - 2/7/2014, 12:22 PM

Interestein - 2/7/2014, 12:38 PM
Awesome! WIsh they didn't have the movie cover though, ruins it.
DellRusk - 2/7/2014, 12:40 PM

U do know that the Black Nick Fury was around before Disney bought Marvel right?
beto - 2/7/2014, 12:41 PM
Every time I see Sam Jackson as Nick FUry I try to imagine that it is THE MAN the one speaking the lines.

beto - 2/7/2014, 12:43 PM
I think that @tomasocelot was refering more to the action man, big guns, big action scenes thing than the black man change. Sam Jackson is pretty much still the whole movies because he is kind of old. Not saying that Sam Jackson is not badass but he can't do the amount of action that a NIck Fury character deserves.
sameoldthing - 2/7/2014, 1:12 PM
That first cover has same art style of the great Dave Johnson.
This Andrew Robinson guy is talented artist but Johnson is the best.

Also, there is room for both black & white Fury's.
Why hasn't Marvel have them crossover/team-up & go on a mission??
blkchi - 2/7/2014, 1:23 PM
Ran shen??? why not jimmy chu of a.t.l.a.s.??? Will def read once i start work..

Some people need to get their facts straight. ..
jimoakley666 - 2/7/2014, 2:44 PM
Nice old school artwork. Reminds me of the old Nick Fury comics from the early 90's. Nice to see Fury 'proper' back again. Wonder if they'll ever introduce him into the MCU?
marvel72 - 2/7/2014, 2:55 PM
not sure about the art but it could be a good read.
AGoodHonestMan - 2/7/2014, 2:56 PM
@ blkchi

Its Jimmy Woo.

I think this story tells the origin of the Iron Nail, which is why its about Ran Shen.
Humperdink - 2/7/2014, 3:04 PM
The style has a real classic feel to it.
I dig it.
MikeHawk - 2/7/2014, 4:00 PM
why u gotta draw Jimmy so stereotypically? he looks like fu man chu lol :/
gigface - 2/7/2014, 4:02 PM
So it claims to be in continuity with the movie or alludes to be since the movie alternate cover yet Fury is white in this one?? pick a color and stay with it....sheesh!
Humperdink - 2/7/2014, 6:24 PM

So it claims to be in continuity with the movie or alludes to be since the movie alternate cover

No. No, it doesn't.

Alternate covers sometimes are not related to the story at all.
You know, like that alternate cover with Magento as a mouse stealing cheese from a trap.

That doesn't happen in the comics, nor is it supposed to allude to an event in the comics.

White Nick, Black Nick...just accept whatever Nick you end up with.

berserkerclaw - 2/7/2014, 7:47 PM
@gigface first Humperdink is correct they put a movie style cover on it but yeah this isnt the movie its the normal comic universe so Nick fury is his 616 version white they only di a black nick fury in movie and an alternate universe called ultimate. also they have a black agent of shield named nick fury who is the real nick furys son

@mikehawk that isnt Jimmy thats a character named Ran Shen from the Captain America comic in present times hes called the Iron Nail and is was introduced just recently as a big villian but in this story he hasnt become that yet hes still a S.h.i.e.l.d. agent in 1966
lordhaterig88 - 2/7/2014, 9:51 PM

mgeoff88 - 2/8/2014, 12:08 AM
The first variant cover reminds of From Russia with Love.
ManThing - 2/8/2014, 6:18 AM
How strange. It looks as though the REAL Nick Fury has made an appearance.
ManThing - 2/8/2014, 6:20 AM
@ Tomasculot: That's what I'M talking about! Cheers
bananaking - 2/8/2014, 12:02 PM
I think Nick Fury can death
Enki - 2/9/2014, 5:12 PM
I think that Marvel needs to reconcile this whole thing about the two Nick Furys.

I'm aware that the African-American Nick Fury was introduced in the Ultimates Universe, but now we have him in the regular Marvel Universe as well. So, what happened to the original Nick? And how does the current Nick come into the story.

Maybe Marvel did explain how all this came to be, but I didn't catch any of it. So if anyone can give me a reference that I could look into, I'd truly appreciate it.
