COMICS: Marvel Teases "A World Without Wolverine" And New AVENGERS/X-MEN Event Series

More details and artwork have been revealed for the upcoming Death of Wolverine event, and it sounds as if his departure will have major ramifications for the rest of the Marvel Universe. The publisher has also teased another Avengers/X-Men event to follow Original Sin called AXIS...

As we learned earlier this week, "Wolverine: 3 Months to Die" will kick off in issue #8 of the main Wolverine series before Charles Soule and Steve McNiven's five-part The Death of Wolverine takes over to tell the story of Logan's demise. Talking at C2E2 today, the writer revealed that, "Word gets out that he can now be targeted," adding that, "Many of his old enemies decide they want to take a shot at him now." All of the X-Men titles will then deal with the aftermath of his death, and Soule, Kyle Higgins and Salvador Larroca will all be working in that corner of the Marvel Universe as part of "A World Without Wolverine". What will happen to the main Wolverine title? We don't know!

In equally interesting news, it appears as if we should expect another Avengers/X-Men themed event this Fall as Marvel finished off this panel by unveiling the logo below. No details have been revealed as of yet, but it was referred to as the, "Next Big Thing for Marvel" after Original Sin. What do you guys think it means? Here's hoping it's better than Avengers Vs. X-Men anyway...

Meh, he'll come back after a while. It's comics. Everyone dies and comes back some time later.
CaptainObvious - 4/27/2014, 6:52 PM
I can't imagine living in a world without pointless amounts of Wolverine books.
TonyMasters - 4/27/2014, 6:53 PM
Axis... OF EVIL???
IDKwhatToChoose - 4/27/2014, 6:56 PM
Hopefully they aren't fighting each other....
BubSnikt - 4/27/2014, 7:01 PM
Everything "changes the Marvel universe forever" these days
blackandyellow - 4/27/2014, 7:03 PM
Great. More events.
Saga - 4/27/2014, 7:04 PM
Hey, can we get an event in which the Fantastic Four (marvel's first family) are involved? They should be the focus in Original Sin, they live for this cosmic mistery shit
TheRationalNerd - 4/27/2014, 7:05 PM
Was Avengers vs. X-Men really that bad??
TheRationalNerd - 4/27/2014, 7:05 PM
Nightcrawler was gone for a LONG time so maybe they might actually make it feel like a real death.
CaptainAmerica - 4/27/2014, 7:10 PM
Marvel New 52 please
marvel72 - 4/27/2014, 7:12 PM
the death of wolverine could be a classic,if marvel get the right creative team involved.

@ theblacknerd

it had its moments.
BritishMonkey - 4/27/2014, 7:14 PM
Whenever this series is mentioned or any "death" of a character in comics, especially Marvel, can it forever be implied death?
I'm going to go on and call it "Death" of Wolverine.
GadoTheLion - 4/27/2014, 7:21 PM

well compared to the age of ultron event its Watchmen, but in general just bad characterizations and blown opportunities
JredTheRed - 4/27/2014, 7:45 PM
^uh she has been back dude. a younger version, but back none the less
DoomBot666 - 4/27/2014, 7:49 PM
@JredTheRed I bet you they might do some crazy shit like the Phoenix Force coming back and possessing past Jean and past Jean gets killed and somehow turns into older Jean. Or something that crazy lol
Nappa - 4/27/2014, 7:57 PM
Axis is a cool name
Nappa - 4/27/2014, 7:58 PM
Meaning of Axis
an agreement or alliance between two or more countries that forms a center for an eventual larger grouping of nations.

Therefor X-Men and Avengers will join forces or something
AgentZero - 4/27/2014, 7:58 PM
So the question is : When is he coming back ?

Because we all know for certain that he is coming back

slashsnikt - 4/27/2014, 8:20 PM
Look people idk why some people are so negative about wolverine. I mean he is one of the gratest heroes of all time and i really cant see a marvel universe without him. He's been trough so much. There is nothing to say about him except : he's the best there is at what he does.
Nappa - 4/27/2014, 8:23 PM

I think you may be a lil bias here....

I like him too though
UltimateHunt - 4/27/2014, 8:27 PM

eh it was alright, it had a good start then it got stupid,. like you asked yourself... why?
dethpillow - 4/27/2014, 8:35 PM
@BritishMonkey - uh, yeah, i think that's safe to say.

no one pulls the wool over the users of's eyes. nope.
dethpillow - 4/27/2014, 8:39 PM

i wonder if it'll have to do with bringing Charles back in a different body or something. I think Red Skull is still running around with his brain.
too soon for Charles to come back tho. they should give him a rest for 5 years at least.
dethpillow - 4/27/2014, 8:39 PM
@HotRodFan - haha, about 10 years ago. :P
osideous - 4/27/2014, 9:06 PM
killing wolverine off is like killing off batman. it's bad writers that turned him into Marvel's crutch. so this death of Wolverine event could be amazing if done right.
JredTheRed - 4/27/2014, 9:06 PM
@questionhound i'm almost 100% sure she'll be phoenix at some point at least
mctrinket - 4/27/2014, 9:17 PM
staypuffed - 4/27/2014, 9:44 PM
I'm quite interested in this story. Sounds cool.
loki668 - 4/27/2014, 10:10 PM
With Apocalypse coming out, you pretty much have a timetable for his return.
LuBeTHiGhWalK3R - 4/27/2014, 10:43 PM
AXIS deez nuts Marvel
BeyondTheGrave - 4/27/2014, 10:54 PM
"A world without wolverine" is boring, the end
SugarYumYum - 4/27/2014, 11:23 PM
Oh whatever will I do in a world without a zillion Wolverine titles that I don't buy anyway?

Avengers and The X-men fighting is amusing but getting a little long in the tooth. Hopefully AXIS will be a turning point for them (as well as not suck).

loki668 - 4/27/2014, 11:37 PM
A world without Wolverine would be the end of Fox Studios ;)
jimoakley666 - 4/27/2014, 11:51 PM
A world without Wolverine would be a very boring one. One without the X-Men. Because that book was cancelled and was in line to be cancelled again until Claremont started having fun with Wolverine.
case - 4/27/2014, 11:51 PM
Haha Loki - u made me snort out loud with that one :)
damntree - 4/27/2014, 11:56 PM
"Many of his old enemies decide they want to take a shot at him now."

They did this same crap after fatal attractions.
SugarYumYum - 4/28/2014, 12:09 AM

A world without Wolverine would be the end of Fox Studios ;)

This world... it's so beautiful.

loki668 - 4/28/2014, 12:31 AM

I know that there'd be a lot of people from this site responding to that world in this fashion:

Wolverine needs a break. He's a mess of a character and has been since schism. Heck, in the last issue of Wolverine he popped his claws on Kitty for no damn reason other than her questioning his behaviour.

I have a broader X based tirade with a few questions thrown in for good measure.

How are the X-men still pissed at Scott for Xaviers death...he was possessed by the Phoenix force that was forced on him by the Avengers*! Jean killed BILLIONS when she was possessed nut they forgave her. Wolverine is ALWAYS getting possessed or brainwashed and killing folk. Also, why did Hank bring the past X-men to the future? There is still no logical reason a smart man would make such a stupid move. Everything since schism has been forced nonsense.

*Had the Avengers just let Scotts plan for the Phoenix force/Hope play out, AVX wouldn't have happened and Xavier wouldn't have died. Instead they accidentally split it amongst the 5 then hassled them til war happened and then, in the end, Hope gets the Phoenix and Scott's original plan plays out.
