COMICS: New HAWKEYE Ongoing Series To Launch In August

Marvel has announced that a solo comic series starring Clint Barton will be launched later this summer. It will be written by Matt Fraction and drawn by David Aja. Check out some artwork and details after the jump.

Marvel has announced that writer Matt Fraction and artist David Aja are set to reunite for an ongoing series starring none other than Hawkeye/Clint Barton, which begins its run this August. The two are collaborating for the first time since their work on Immortal Iron Fist with Ed Brubaker. Below are comments from Aja and Fraction, as well as the covers for the first two issues in the series.

“Hawkeye was one my favorite characters when I was a kid,” Aja recalls. “One of the first Marvel comics I read was AVENGERS #25, and I [fell] in love with [the] guy; he acted as real person, was a complete jerk, so I suppose I identified with him.”

“Never had the chance to write a character like him, or to do a book like this before,” Fraction divulges. “And I wanted to chronicle him in an ongoing series because it'd keep me from getting bored. Repetition bores me to death. I had this idea for how to do a book that wasn't like anything else we'd seen him in before, wasn't like anything I'd done before, and couldn't stop thinking about.”

“Hawkeye is more about what inspires Clint Barton,” Fraction explains, “We got Clint in AVENGERS, SECRET AVENGERS, and anywhere else at any given time—but we wanted HAWKEYE to be about what Clint does when he's not at work, about what drives the guy. He's got some stuff coming up in [Avengers Vs. X-Men] and afterwards he's in a place where he's gotta figure out what he's doing with himself and why. What moves him, what's meaningful for him.”

"I’m thinking lately I'm going more iconic, more cartoony. You know, less is more," Aja sayss. "Your style evolving is the perfect excuse when you are cutting corners. Note to self: remember to do lot of black silhouettes and black panels.”

Do you plan on checking out the new Hawkeye series when it begins this August?

Knightrider - 4/14/2012, 3:46 PM
The look almost has a 60's disco vibe, which I oddly like. Not keen on look of purple v on top would liked to have seen a more practical looking outfit.
MrDuck - 4/14/2012, 3:50 PM
Seriously, why post the entire movie on the sight?
Ironnick - 4/14/2012, 3:54 PM
I know right?
It should be a rule on this sight aboutthings like that.
dellamorte1872 - 4/14/2012, 3:54 PM

Can you say cross-pollination.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 4/14/2012, 4:11 PM
Hmmm, not sure what to read. There's AvX, DD, Avenging Spider-Man, and others. But seeing as how I don't have the luxury of money, I'm just gonna have to wait it out 'til they come down to a reasonable price for me. :)

Stay EPIC, my friends!
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 4/14/2012, 4:15 PM
Also, not really liking Hawkeye's costume here. It looks too much like the Ultimates' one to me. But, oh well.

shadow314 - 4/14/2012, 4:19 PM

grandizer74 - 4/14/2012, 5:23 PM
"written by matt fraction." that's all I need to hear to not pick this up.
longbowhunter - 4/14/2012, 5:59 PM
I thought Hawkeye and Mockingbird was good. I wish it hadnt gotten cancelled. Fraction's writing isnt always a sure thing, but he did some good work on Invincible Iron Man and Immortal Iron Fist. As much as I dig Hawkeye and David Aja, I know this is going to be a $4 book and I just cant do it. Maybe in trade down the road.
Sparrowsabre7 - 4/14/2012, 6:03 PM
Wait, so Fraction is now writing Thor, Iron Man and Hawkeye? Is Cap and Hulk next? Is he just going to write ALL the Avengers now? :P
luckylu - 4/14/2012, 6:11 PM
put him back in the classic costume and ill be interested.

-captain america
-the incredible hulk
Wildaniel - 4/14/2012, 6:43 PM
If it has Bobbi Morse aka Mockingbird ill read it.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 4/14/2012, 7:14 PM
@GUNSMITH - LoL, boobfest. Great vid, dude. And yeah, I should take it easy with the festival of boobies. :P
MGS - 4/14/2012, 8:02 PM
How many solo series has Hawkeye been in the last 40 years or so? Let's face it, that character has never been interesting enough to sustain his own ongoing series.
Rhinoman - 4/14/2012, 8:11 PM
marvel has not done a good job recently using new villians, usually just recycling old ones. Hopefully since this is a new series, we will get to see some new guys enter the field, Hawkeye needs some new nemesis
JustDame - 4/14/2012, 8:12 PM
Thought Secret Avengers would be his book. Looks cool. I'll probably pick up the first issue and if i love it i'll keep picking it up. If it's $3.99 i'll probably have to pass.
StuckInPanels - 4/14/2012, 8:39 PM
well this is no surprise. I'm not that too interested with the title despite the talent behind it. Hawkeye is more suited for leading a team or being a back-up character. His issue in Avenging Spider-man was interesting but also kind of boring. SPOILER ALERT: Hawkeye constantly trains at getting a perfect bullseye everytime because he has to be on target or else he is just some guy with a bow. I understand expanding his character but I'm sure in his entire comic career he has missed or his arrows not been effective.
Deadpool101 - 4/14/2012, 8:57 PM
i will be getting this asap
Iceman01 - 4/14/2012, 9:03 PM
Hawkeye for life! Gotta read this one
Mego - 4/14/2012, 9:07 PM
A comic about a guy in a t-shirt with sunglasses who can shoot arrows accurately. Uh, thanks but no thanks!
BlindLemonShemp - 4/14/2012, 9:08 PM
the hawkeye lettering on the cover is a ripoff of The Who's logo... stupid marvel
GLprime2814 - 4/14/2012, 9:33 PM
I like Hawkeye as a team guy he's not really that interesting to me as a solo guy, specially since he has no more costume I know it's stupid but I like costumed heroes no matter how lame it is,
I'm looking at you rainbow rider and triathlon.
Deadpool101 - 4/14/2012, 10:19 PM
when I was a kid I thought Clint was lame, but now since House of M, is one of my top characters I read even ultimate Hawkeye. My personal favorite is when he was Ronin leading the new Avengers, and went after all the Dark avengers at once.
jimoakley666 - 4/14/2012, 11:00 PM
Looks brilliant. I love this guys artwork and that retro style of cover harks back to Steranko's Nick Fury classic from the 60s.
