COMICS: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN To End In December With Issue #700

Is this the end for Peter Parker? Well, whatever happens in this December's issue #700 of The Amazing Spider-Man is such a big deal that Marvel are bringing the series to an end (presumable to relaunch a new #1 as a part of Marvel NOW!). Check out the solicitation details after the jump!

Amazing Spider-Man has been in the triple digits since issue #500, but it looks as if Peter Parker is set to be another victim of Marvel NOW! as the current Amazing Spider-Man series comes to an end in December. Dan Slott has previously said that the events of the issue are so monumental that he will have to go into hiding once it goes on sale. While he's been spotted in various Marvel NOW! images, could they be planning to KILL off Spider-Man? Well, seeing as Doctor Octopus knows his secret identity, something BIG is definitely coming Spidey's way this Christmas...

• This is the MUST READ issue that turns over all the cards and reveals secrets that have been set as far back as ENDS OF THE EARTH, SPIDER-ISLAND, and 99 issues ago in ASM #600!
• Doctor Octopus has hours left to live. He knows Peter Parker’s secret. He has no master plan—all he wants is vengeance. Which members of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery will heed Ock’s call to arms?
• Special appearances by the Lizard, the Spider-Slayer, Morbius the Living Vampire, and some surprising Spidey Foes!

Dan Slott & Joe Keatinge (W) • Al Barrionuevo (A)

• As Doctor Octopus’ schemes take shape, MORBIUS THE LIVING VAMPIRE returns with a Vengenace!
• Will he be able to resist the siren song of blissful bloodsucking or will Spider-Man sling him straight back into the slammer?
• Your first look at next month’s all-new Morbius ongoing series.

justified1 - 9/19/2012, 9:21 AM

Asterisk - 9/19/2012, 9:23 AM
ATrueHero1987 - 9/19/2012, 9:23 AM
Yea, it's going to be relaunched...until 99 issues later it goes back to it's original numbering.smdh
HellsHammer - 9/19/2012, 9:24 AM
I hate the MARVEL NOW! Title. Was it not NOW when it was regular marvel? Will that era forever be known as MARVEL THEN?
GoILL - 9/19/2012, 9:31 AM
Are they ever gonna fix the travesty that was One More Day?
NerdyGeek - 9/19/2012, 9:31 AM
No, it will all be a dream!
OdinsBeard - 9/19/2012, 9:32 AM
they're going to replace him with a gay, low-income, Bolivian-American female teenager to try and bring in new readers and boost sales.
SymbioteSpidey1 - 9/19/2012, 9:33 AM
All I can say is "why"
jimpinto24 - 9/19/2012, 9:33 AM
I wish TASM issues didn't have to come to an end. :(
Asterisk - 9/19/2012, 9:36 AM
lol @yoss I got it
AC1 - 9/19/2012, 9:40 AM
They're not going to kill him off, he's been in Marvel Now promo art. Maybe Aunt May gets killed off? And perhaps Peter's identity is revealed? If that happened, would it break Mephisto's One More Day spell thingy and put Peter and MJ back together?
DoctorDoak - 9/19/2012, 9:49 AM
Josh: "Amazing Spider-Man has been in the triple digits since issue #500"

Hasn't ASM been in the tripple digits since, like... issue #100?
Scuzz - 9/19/2012, 9:53 AM
I think this is a good move. a relaunch should get new readers, spider-man should be marvels number 1 seller. there is no reason it shouldn't be selling more than batman
SUPERSHADOWBAT - 9/19/2012, 9:53 AM
@Justified1, no matter what Marvel calls it, this definitely seems to be a reboot like the new DC 52. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck.......
blueorangeny - 9/19/2012, 9:54 AM
LMAO. It's funny a year ago a lot of Marvel fans were talking shit about DC and the New 52.

Anyway. It is what it is. It sucks that Spiderman will be back to 1, it sucks Detective Comics, Action Comics, XMen and so for...but shit it's probably for the best. Don't hate it just embrace it and it will succeed
Dedpool - 9/19/2012, 10:09 AM
Yeah, new #1 (to be returned to original numbering after issue 75 lol) Spiderman is like the moral center of the Marvel U, so he'd not going anywhere again.

Morbius needs a new look.

@Supeshadowbat - Not a reboot because unlike the DCnU nothing is erasing what's come before. if anything it's just a new status quo. New team rosters, new teams, new threats, but not starting over from the beinning. Marvel has always been good about that, they will retcon stuff but they have rartely just said "This never happened" except One More Day/Brand New Day.
SiriusC - 9/19/2012, 10:11 AM
"another victim of Marvel NOW" - perfectly put. I'm starting to resent this more & more since they've decided to END Uncanny X-Force. Yes, I know it's going to continue with another team, but it's not gonna be what I fell in love with. And I've always hated the reverting back to #1. Because when the 800th issue of Spiderman rears its head they're going to go back.
storyteller - 9/19/2012, 10:15 AM
So we begin what is it Volume 3 of Amazing spiderman?
GLprime2814 - 9/19/2012, 10:15 AM
What happendWhat the Hell am I looking at?! When does this happen in the movie?!

NOW! You're looking at "now," sir. Everything that happens now is happening "NOW."

What happened to "then?"
We passed it.

Just now. We're at now "NOW."

Go back to "then."

I can't.

We missed it.

Just NOW.

When will "then" be "NOW?"

How soon?

I bet for Gwen stacy 's back from death

if they kill peter or mj... i swear i won't read another marvel comic in my life.
darkjedv - 9/19/2012, 10:34 AM
Catholicism Wow!
BigDamnHero - 9/19/2012, 10:38 AM
@fabaranks I'm thinking the same thing... But if that happens I will majorly pissed off! I just hope Marvel isn't that stupid!
mbembet - 9/19/2012, 10:38 AM
issue 1000
marvel72 - 9/19/2012, 10:41 AM
it will be a sad day when issue 700 hits. :(

hasn't the amazing spider-man been triple digits since 100 not 500.
Zombie137 - 9/19/2012, 10:45 AM
why do all these high numbered books keep going back to 1 or ending. Don't these companies realize the importance of a issue 1000?
Ha1frican - 9/19/2012, 10:51 AM
The art on that 3rd pic is ass
superotherside - 9/19/2012, 10:53 AM
Great, hopefully he can get relaunched and find out One More Day never happened. Because IMO that ruined him. Such a great character that was growing in Civil War until One More Day came and ruined it all. :\ Oh well. Looking forward to the relaunch! :)
marvel72 - 9/19/2012, 10:53 AM
i'm more shocked that it last 700 issues without going back to issue 1.

the avengers,the uncanny x-men,fantastic four,daredevil,thor,captain america,iron man,x-force & the incredible hulk all couldn't do it.
Equivocal - 9/19/2012, 10:56 AM
I know this is wishful thinking but, will OMD be reverted????

I can only dream .....

JohnnyKrypton - 9/19/2012, 11:15 AM
Yet another stunt
kackbratze - 9/19/2012, 11:18 AM
@marvel72: Spidey himself is seemingly popular enough that people buy his comics no matter the issue number...
kingmonkeyman - 9/19/2012, 11:23 AM
With two more movies to go there is now way they will kill Spider-man. As for the renumbering I just think they are catering to the growing populace who can't count in triple digits.
Mrcool210 - 9/19/2012, 11:45 AM
if youre gonna have a epic fianle then dont have HUMBERTO RAMOS doing the art
Mrcool210 - 9/19/2012, 11:52 AM
i hope this does get rid of one more day, that last pic seems to hint it
CaptainObvious - 9/19/2012, 12:01 PM
I stopped reading Spidey after One More Day. The only way I will ever read anything of the character again is if the deal with Mephisto is reversed and Peter and Mary Jane are married again.
xstryker - 9/19/2012, 12:04 PM
A brand new #1 I guess means a Brand New Day for Spider-Man!
Hahaha, this is how I felt when they did it to Uncanny XMen.
Zounds - 9/19/2012, 12:07 PM
Dumb idea, ridiculous execution, and an ATROCIOUS choice for the company's flagship character's last cover in it's original series.

How was Paolo Rivera not tasked months ago to work on the final issue front to back? Or something of an homage and go with Steve Rude, or Ron Frenz artist with a bit of authentic Marvel feel?
