COMICS: Who Withstood the Cataclysm? Find Out In First Look At SURVIVE #1

This March, the Ultimate Universe attempts to rebuild from total devastation at the hands of Galactus. But with every ending there comes a new beginning – and the next stage of the Ultimate Universe starts in Brian Michael Bendis and Joe Quinones Survive #1. Check it out!

Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds descended upon the Ultimate Universe with an insatiable hunger. Though he was defeated by the bravery of a small band of heroes – the cost was devastatingly high. New York City lays a smoldering ruin, and not everyone made it back alive. Many of the Ultimates are dead – and the remaining heroes are all beaten, broken, and emotionally drained.

“You’ve got all these characters [that] have been through hell together and now they’re coming out the other side and they’re kind of committed to each other, now that Captain America’s gone and some other characters aren’t making it back,” says writer Brian Michael Bendis in an interview with

“A lot of these characters are very young, and with that comes a lot of emotion, a lot of drama, a lot of people making some disastrous mistakes both in their professional and in their personal lives; and all of that will be on display right away.”

Witness the birth of a new team of Ultimates! Who survived the fury of Galactus? Who didn’t make it out alive? What will become of S.H.I.E.L.D? The future of the Ultimate Universe is happening now! All your questions will be answered this March in SURVIVE #1!

Good Art, for once.

I hate to be this guy, but...

What the hell's up with Sue's breasts in the first image, the cover? The left one is down by her elbow and the right one is way smaller.

Either that or it's very odd perspective/shading.

Better than I could do, of course...but still...I'm not getting paid for it.

"All your questions will be answered this March"...

Question number one, When will this painful shit end?

Question number two; Why is the Ultimate U primarily used to bend our favourite characters over a bench and rape them in the arse with a rusty wire-brush?
Atumbem - 3/1/2014, 6:21 AM
They killed off Ultimate Cap! Noooooooooo! He was my favorite character. I don't know why they think whacking off characters every so often will get us to read these books. Tell great stories, built up the characters and stop killing everything. There isn't a single character left in the Ultimate Universe I care about.
KeefNCookies - 3/1/2014, 6:32 AM
I pity whoever's still invested in this universe.

With all my heart, I did not think it possible to care less about this imprint. I was a fool!
Jackraow21 - 3/1/2014, 6:43 AM
Yeah, at this point they've killed off all the best characters. This imprint is on life support.
Shadowmaster35 - 3/1/2014, 7:32 AM
they just wouldn't let it all be destroyed huh? Welp guess we'll see when I go pick up my books this morning.
mctrinket - 3/1/2014, 7:33 AM
I thought the whole point was that Galactus was going to eat that universe and it would be over.
BubSnikt - 3/1/2014, 7:34 AM
Let the universe die
OrionPax - 3/1/2014, 7:36 AM
@thwip HA HA HA!!!!Sue Storm's breasts are ALL F*%#^ED UP!!!Art is kind of crap......
orpheus - 3/1/2014, 7:45 AM
This Cataclysm storyline is just a metaphor for how Loeb's Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum were the crushing end of the Ultimate Universe, and everything since then's been attempts to do something with the pieces.
KindredMac - 3/1/2014, 7:48 AM
crap art.
Why does Falcon look like he has dwarfism?
Nivekian - 3/1/2014, 8:02 AM
Why is Marvel still pumping resources into these titles, when they should just stay commited to kill it off, and do Marvel reboot 3.0. Hopefully it clicks
beane2099 - 3/1/2014, 8:13 AM
While I haven't been a fan of the Ultimate U since it's "Loeb-otimization" there is some opportunity here. There are tons of character that don't get a second glance in the 616 that could come to prominence in an Ultimate Universe where all the A-List characters are dead. Darkhawk, Agents of Atlas, Sleepwalker and 3D man come to mind. You could even have a not-crazy version of the Sentry pop up. In terms of villains I don't think they've tackled Graviton or Count Nefaria over in the Ultimate U either. Kristoff could always take up the mantle of Doctor Doom. There's possibilities anyways.
beane2099 - 3/1/2014, 8:15 AM
That's right, I said 3D man.
Thelastdalek - 3/1/2014, 8:53 AM

They were intended to be more modern versions of the classic characters without the decades of continuity, to draw in new readers but they weren't meant to be totally different.

I think the problem with Ultimate Marvel is that it's utterly redundant at this point.

The regular Marvel Universe is trying so hard (way to hard in my opinion) to be modern and edgy at this point and Ultimate know has over a decade of continuity itself
rabid - 3/1/2014, 8:54 AM
Because many people still buy it... like me.
rabid - 3/1/2014, 8:57 AM
The Ultimate universe is still dying. Reed has seen its blank future. It just wasn't Galactus that takes it out.
Epicboy - 3/1/2014, 9:35 AM
@thwip dude your not alone sues boobs in the cover look very uneven. It's like she's wearing half a bra.
actionmoviefanatix - 3/1/2014, 9:45 AM
Yeah, I hate to admit it but it was the first thing I noticed in the first cover. The second thing I noticed was Storm's shrunken breast (there is clearly only one on her in that pic). The third thing I noticed was the *ahem* creative proportions on Falcon.

I don't think I care for this artist...
ScionStorm - 3/1/2014, 10:42 AM
Whoah. Sue has a Super Droopy Booby in that cover.

@CoreyxYeroc- It's called Deoxys.
HulkOnion - 3/1/2014, 10:48 AM
invisible woman's boobs... dafuq?
rabid - 3/1/2014, 11:05 AM
The boobs are drawn correctly in proportion. The hair coming down makes an illusion of a shoulder where there isn't one which makes it look wonky. But it isn't if you trace the shoulder line. It's proper, although a bit of wavy hair could have made it look more so.
BANE5000 - 3/1/2014, 11:48 AM
So Cap dies once again and Iron Man lives?
RexDartEskimoSpy - 3/1/2014, 12:34 PM

I like that. You make a good point, Mister Beane. But I've given up completely on the Ultimate Universe, and I wish marvel would, too.
pepe - 3/1/2014, 12:41 PM
So is reed a good guy now? .... Singer is a CBM rapist
DukeAcureds - 3/1/2014, 12:53 PM
I still feel punked about this. They cheated us on the promise of keeping what little integrity this franchise had left, by quitting whilst it was still ahead. Now it's going all High School Musical. Having said that, Kitty Pryde and Galactus in a fist fight? That will stay with me. I liked the reference to the Avengers movie, too, what with the portal closing and one of the Avengers sacrificing himself.
dethpillow - 3/1/2014, 3:57 PM
@Melkaticox - you know i was thinking that too, and now that it's not true, i agree, see what becomes of it now. they should introduce more cool new characters in Ultimate only. i guess they've tried sorta, but there's plenty left to do with it, and Miles is totally the life blood of the whole thing.

i'm interested in what Marvel do with it. it seems like they've been missing a great chance to give a lot of fringe/indie type writers/artists a place to go nuts in. like with Ultimate X-Men, from what i've read, it feels almost more conservative than real X-Men.

you know? u got the Ultimate universe, go apeshit with it like you're supposed to, like it was made for. they only do this on the most superficial level of like, this is X character, but they're psycho and stupid. or just silly things like everyone dies, look what we did!..

it's like the silly kinda dark. when there's actually an opportunity to get back to what 60's Marvel was about and just making shit up and going crazy and tripping balls on these characters. and then now, it seems like from all the promo to it, they're playing it safe again.

u can never tell from promo tho, cuz it's almost always misleading, both DC and Marvel. i've learned that things never suck as much as it seems like they do. thankfully. but Marvel's missing the point on this. they should be digging around and getting really fresh, great voices and ideas in there.

for [frick]'s sake, they should be hiring Jacky to be like editor of Ultimate universe. i mean stuff like that. like really intelligent stuff that's not just shock value, mediocre kind of baby man man darkness, u know?

dethpillow - 3/1/2014, 4:03 PM
and in my opinion, thank god that wind bag Ultimate Cap is finally dead, they brought him on strong but he just ended up being like a castrated milk cow version of 616 Cap. weak ass stuff Ultimate Cap turned into.

they should've made him black. that would've been really interesting and added a different take on Cap's whole deal. someone like Spidey, (and I love Miles, totally. he's a great character and that's what it's really about, so i'm glad we got him.), but someone like Spidey, it really doesn't make any difference what race he is. so in a lot of ways, even tho I love Miles, it just a superficial change.

black Cap, on the other hand, that fundamentally gives u so much opportunity to examine what Captain America means, like in a compare and contrast way. becuz black Cap and white Cap would be the same person in essence, but everything around them, from their upbringing to the implications of what it would've meant to have a black man be the subject of a super soldier program, to the changes in history that black Cap would've woken up to. all this stuff, is totally explosive ground to cover. it would've been really interesting.

instead we just got Cap on steroids and then i guess, coming down and acting like a windbag for the rest of the time. glad he's dead.
dethpillow - 3/1/2014, 4:07 PM
like they might've done more to weaponize Cap before he ended up getting frozen. he wouldn't be out in public doing USO shows, he'd be like a covert ops kind of thing, and more treated like an object. he wouldn't have his uniform. he would have to steal the shield somehow and make it his.
Cap would've been treated like a (blank word).

and he'd still be the virtuous soul that Cap is fundamentally, but his idea of America and what he stood for would be way more conflicted and interesting. not saying that 616 Cap isn't interesting, cuz he's one of my favorite top 3 all time heroes, but just saying that there's so much shit to cover with that. would've been rad.
loki668 - 3/2/2014, 12:11 AM
Can anyone make a list of the Ultimate characters who became part of a Galactus sammich?
MightyZeus - 3/2/2014, 5:54 AM
I feel sad for the people that are still invested in this travesty. I thought the universe would end but it has not.
rabid - 3/2/2014, 9:01 AM
Pretty sure we already have a Miles in the 616, and his name is Mysterion!
Pathogen - 3/2/2014, 7:12 PM
wow this art is crap
lococo000 - 3/4/2014, 2:19 AM
I think the problem with this universe is Bendis and co. getting bored of this universe and then they have to find ways to entertain themselves and all if the disaster from Ultimatum until now has been the result. They should just end with this universe and get a job writing something either in main continuity or make something new. As much as I've tried to like the new stuff, I'm just not feeling it.
