A Message from Galactus About User Submissions

The overlord of ComicBookMovie.com gives some friendly advice to contributors who have had their feelings hurt lately...

By ComicBookMovie - 12/15/2009
Recently we have had several users who have been upset that their contributions to the site have been edited, deleted, or didn't make it to the main "what's new" first page section. I write this to clear up any misconceptions about contributing to our little site.

#1. We're trying something new here at CBM... We've created a news site that is mostly user-generated. Its really the first of its kind. We're allowing our users more freedom to affect the site than any other breaking news site on the web. When you joined up, we explained what we are trying to do, what we expect, and how you could help us become the next big phenom on the web.

#2. It's not a giant messageboard. We want to present a professional image in as much as it is possible. We realize that not every contribution will be Shakespeare, and we're OK with that, but we want to keep the professionalism and quality of contributions as good as possible so that the site doesn't look like it is run by a 3-year-old.

#3 User submissions are "articles" and NOT messageboard threads, and as such we expect that they be of a higher standard than what you would find on your average messageboard. We expect proper grammar, spelling and punctuation from the news stories, and prefer well thought-out opinion pieces. If you don't like that, you can post on our messageboard or any one of the millions of other forums on the web.

#4 User submissions may be edited at the discretion of CBM editors. Of course, we REALLY appreciate the contributions that don't need any editing at all. Those are the ones that get on the main page with no problems. Users who show a history of providing good contributions that need little to no editing are asked to become CBM editors and are given editor's privileges. If you feel you meet those requirements, let us know, we are always looking for good editors who want to volunteer to make the site better.

#5 User submissions may be deleted if they are plagiarized, or are duplicates of something already posted, or will just take too much editing time to meet our standards of professionalism.

#6 CBM is first and foremost a "breaking news" site. We also have a huge community that likes to contribute a lot of fan fic, fan art, fan casting, fan made videos, etc. Generally, fan fic will rarely make the main "what's new" section because we do not want the news to become overrun with fiction. We have made a separate section to archive all fan fic articles, so please do not complain that your latest fan casting didn't get on the front page.

We are accutely aware that our community of users is what accounts for our tremendous growth and popularity. We strive to keep the site happenin' and our users happy. To that end, please comment below about how you think we are doing, and leave any suggestions on how we might improve.

Thank you for all your support!

Galactus

thehumantorch - 12/15/2009, 11:26 AM
Long time reader, occasional contributor here...

This site ROCKS!

I've had a few articles make front page, and I've had a few get bumped back by another user posting the same article, before or after me. No biggie. It's just nice to be a part of a community of people who have similar interests, and love bringing the CBM news in!

Keep up the great work everyone!
Stumblin - 12/15/2009, 11:27 AM
Amen to that Lee, only deleted once for my review on Paranormal Activity only to see another review on it in the section. Shit does in deed happen, but life goes on and the world keeps on spinnin'
Set2Fallfirst - 12/15/2009, 11:28 AM
So it is said, So shall it be done. Galactus you're doing a good job. No one knows how hard it is to actually run this site. And the Editors you pick aka Ror, Multi, Brent etc do an excellent job. :] thanks for bringing us an awesome site where I can see a funny comment from sirprize be serious and a have a great convo with someone like Shaman and Get the occasional boob jk. (not really)

Trying to please everyone will please no one keep on keep on :]]

BillyBlack - 12/15/2009, 11:29 AM

HuskerHero - 12/15/2009, 11:32 AM
Seriously, did someone get their feelings hurt? Is it that big of a deal that you have to complain to the site admin?
LEEE777 - 12/15/2009, 11:33 AM
STUMBLIN @ Lol!!! ; D

bropous - 12/15/2009, 11:37 AM
Makes sense to me.

[Husker: YES. I've noted a lot of that whining lately. Glad galactus laid down the rules again.]
LobsterJohnston - 12/15/2009, 11:37 AM
I agree, professionalism is the most important thing that people look for in a website that talks about comic book based movies. Also, Fart.
IronClad - 12/15/2009, 11:39 AM
@all of you!!!: could you guys kiss any more ass???
dailycomicsfix - 12/15/2009, 11:41 AM
I can relate to RedSkullGeezer. I was getting a tad miffed when a few of my submissions were deleted but the editors did reach out to me and tell me why, which was greatly apprciated. They also do post on their site what they are looking for in user submissions (which at the time of getting miffed i did not read). People get upset because they don't know why their stuff is getting deleted. Especially when they see a similar submission staying up. Once they understand what CBM is looking for then their submissions are likely to stay posted.

Communication and education will set you free brothers!!!!
:-)
IrvineGray - 12/15/2009, 11:42 AM
Thanks Galactus! And thanks for creating CBM! And might I add that I've never been more intimidated than I am now by the colors sky blue and fuschia. ;)
Pym - 12/15/2009, 11:43 AM
That Galactus, He knows everything!
Shaman - 12/15/2009, 11:46 AM
I know i'm repeating myself but here goes. I for one don't even look at who brings in the article unless it's an editorial, fan fic/art or reviews. As long as it's news that is somewhat valid and not tabloid shit, i read the article and comment to it, period. I don't go revering the author unless his or her writing blows my pants off. But i can understand the frustration that would come from getting your hard worked article deleted, that's the name of the game i guess. It's also why i don't go fishing for news unless i'm paid for it. I prefer sticking to my thoughts and art. If fishing for news is really what you like to do, then persevere. You're bound to make the front page eventually. The regular guys can't be everywhere at the same time. Just stick to the style-guide and you should be fine.
ThisFan - 12/15/2009, 11:48 AM
I have no problem being edited anything that can help the site is fine with me
RemiMartini - 12/15/2009, 11:49 AM

JerusalemJr - 12/15/2009, 11:54 AM

thwhtGuardian - 12/15/2009, 11:54 AM
lol yea i was just thinking the same thing sirprize. But then again Galactus is not that petty, I think he can take it, even if it's unfounded criticism.
Set2Fallfirst - 12/15/2009, 11:56 AM

StephenStrange - 12/15/2009, 12:02 PM
for real though I do get really tired of two or three comments worth of "Hey! Where'd mine go?"
Or when someone like redskullgeezer goes off in the comments section. Or Ozy plagiarizes Josh.. those are always really fun
LEEE777 - 12/15/2009, 12:03 PM

IronClad - 12/15/2009, 12:09 PM

@Galactus: what did Remi's world taste like? i bet it was VERY salty, huh? perhaps a little sour? i know it had to be at least a little cheesy. BOOM!
StephenStrange - 12/15/2009, 12:09 PM
@ LEEE777: I was refering to teh Geezer's article about how it's all just a big popularity contest.
