EDITORIAL:The regression of current comic books
A 14-year-old's take on the state of the industry...
Recently, I've been reading a lot of old comics, specifically X-Men:Days Of Future Past, X-Men:The Dark Phoenix Saga, The Dark Knight Returns,Ultimate Spider-Man(#1-40-Brian Bendis & Mark Bagley), Jack Kirby & Stan Lee, The Astonishing X-Men(Joss Whedon & John Cassaday)and Watchmen;so basically 60s,70,80s,and early 2000s, and I'm fourteen,so what does this show.
The point is,the 1960s,70s,80s,and minority of 2000s,leaving out many comics from the 90s and now. In the 60s,there were so many great comics, such as The X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, The Avengers, The Invincible Iron Man and The Mighty Thor. In the 70s,there was The X-men, The Avengers, The Amazing Spiderman, and many others. In the 80s,there were many great stories too, such as, Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, Wolverine by Frank Miller & Chris Claremont, The Dark Phoenix Saga, Batman Year One, Days Of Future Past, Daredevil:Born Again, and so many good stories. In the 90s,there were great books, like, The Infinity Gauntlet, Preacher, Spider-Man by Todd McFarlane, and many other books that weren't so great, but now, there are over hundreds of issues and comics that are not good, and all I am doing is listing, so I'll go over the issues.
So as we know, there have been a lot of comics that are not good, and with many reasons, or possible reasons for it, like, no creativity, and specifically, the creativity being rare, or very minimal compared to how much there isn't,for example, the borderline laziness and lack of a good story, that entertains,or intrigues, or even keeps you wanting to read more and more of it, and that is a huge and expanding problem with comics today, as well as the art. As everyone knows, the big factors of comics are the writing and art, and tell the story as much as the writing does, if not, more than the writing, because the entire point, the core of comics would accurately have to be the art, more so than the writing, and with so much great art years ago, and not many over the last three to four years, that seems to have been a major reason as to why readers have decreased more and more over time, leaving us all with no good art, especially this year and last year. Also, the stories of these potential great books have proven themselves to be just horrible, especially 2012 in the last few months, from the bad stories and writing, to the terrible art, bring great things in the industry down very low, leaving a "Low Down Shame".
So,the whole point of this was, comics have not been good lately, especially this year, and eventually if this keeps on, there will be no more comics to read, with no more sales, and it's this simple, comics are not supposed to regress, they are supposed to progress.
