CONSTANTINE Sequel An Ungranted Wish For Keanu Reeves

CONSTANTINE Sequel An Ungranted Wish For Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves lists Hellblazer's John Constantine as the only character he'd like to play again on film besides Ted from Bill & Ted. What are the actual chances of that happening?

A Constantine tv show is in development at NBC with Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman screenwriter David S. Goyer steering the ship. Constantine is also set to appear in Guilermo del Toro's Justice League Dark movie, which the director assures is still happening and some speculate will be part of the fledgling DC Cinematic Universe. But for many, the first introduction to the con man magic-user was in the 2005 Constantine film from director Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and starring Keanu Reeves (47 Ronin). The film earned $230.8 million dollars at the worldwide box office on a $100 million dollar budget. Not a flop per say but not enough for Warner Bros. to greenlight a sequel either. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Keanu stated, "I would like to have played John Constantine again. I liked playing that character and there seemed to be a way to continue that. That’s the only one that comes to mind." Reeves was asked if there was a character he's previously played that he would like to play again after talking about the status of Bil & Ted 3. Unfortunately for Reeves, del Toro has already stated that the Constantine in his film will be blond, like the character is depicted in the comic books.

Since this show is going to be on NBC I hope they do it like Hannibal.
MightyZeus - 11/20/2013, 6:16 AM
That Constantine film was actually pretty decent. However i kind of wanted Guilermo del Toro to do The Constantine tv show instead of Goyer.

Anyway i'm glad Del Toro is moving forward with that Justice League Dark movie.

One of the few films I didn't mind Keanu Reeves in was Constantine. Although they didn't follow the comic description of him, he did a decent job and it was an enjoyable movie.
I hope the tv show is done well.

@Joe

As well as disturbing and sometimes an uncomfortable watch.....i was hooked on series 1 of Hannibal, i'm keeping my eyes out for S2. Would definitely watch the NBC series if they go with the same approach.
InfiniteMonkey - 11/20/2013, 6:21 AM

Уорнеры раскидали свои сериалы по разным каналам, видимо они всё-таки не собираются делать единую вселенную(
KrazyForKomix - 11/20/2013, 6:25 AM
Justice League Dark will happen right after Jonah Hill is signed as Constantine.
Exactly.
Never.
Inhuman - 11/20/2013, 6:25 AM
This is Constantine, John Constantine asshole.... Man I wish their was a sequel. Constantine was a great movie and one of the best DC adaptions.

@ TopCat

I agree, I thought the show was going to suck and oh my god I was so hooked and so sad when the season was over. Also another show that got me hooked right away is the Following on Fox as well.

LOL! You know if it was about a year ago I would agree with your statement. I actually think this movie is going to happen.
Rulk - 11/20/2013, 6:30 AM
I may be in the minority but I really liked this movie... and wish they made a sequel.
NitPicker - 11/20/2013, 6:31 AM

Constantine sounds really interesting, and the TV show sounds like it could be cool, as does Justice League Dark.

Can anyone recommend any Constantine trades/graphic novels that would be good for someone who's never read the character before?
Niklander - 11/20/2013, 6:35 AM
He was a very good John Constantine.Looking forward for John Constantine in TV and (hopefully) in JL:DARK
MightyZeus - 11/20/2013, 6:35 AM
I didnt know people on this site actually watch nbc's Hannibal. That show is amazing.
hummingbird68 - 11/20/2013, 6:37 AM
Constantine is my all time favourite DC character, I was realy annoyed that they blew it by casting Keanu in the movie, even though he suprised me and was actually good.

I'm really hoping they go for a blonde, brit cockney this time round ..... just follow the huge comic book guide guys!
Enphlieuwince - 11/20/2013, 6:40 AM
Yes, Hannibal is AMAZING. @raccoonwithrockets, did you ever catch Bates Motel?
hummingbird68 - 11/20/2013, 6:40 AM
@ AC1

Just start from the beginning, they are all available in graphic novel collections (proud owner of all)
MarkJulian - 11/20/2013, 6:40 AM
I always thought Spike from Buffy (can't remember his name) would have made a perfect Constantine.
Enphlieuwince - 11/20/2013, 6:42 AM
Constantine was a great movie
TopCat89 - 11/20/2013, 6:42 AM
AdamX - 11/20/2013, 6:44 AM
Bates motel, Hannibal and Vikings all surprised me can't wait for each of their 2nd seasons.
hummingbird68 - 11/20/2013, 6:47 AM
@ KrazyForKomix

Well said and so true.
KrazyForKomix - 11/20/2013, 6:48 AM
One of the coolest things about the comic's Constantine is his WTF attitude toward dealing with all things magical/supernatural. Couple that with his British wonkiness, his NON-repentant smoking and the ancient historical environment that his the UK, and you having a winning, ambiguously heroic bloke.
Yes, Keanu did a decent job in some movie titled "Constantine," about a lapse Catholic trying to get into heaven. But it wasn't THE Constantine. Not even a little.
But like so many characters in comic book movies these days, as long as they have the recognizable name, comic fans will see it.
Starlight - 11/20/2013, 6:53 AM
I really liked the first movie and wouldn't mind to have Keanu back. Just dye his hair and that's it ! :P
knocturnalzen10 - 11/20/2013, 6:53 AM
really mark lol like cipher hasn't had that avi since the civil war lol smh but ur right james master would be a perfect john
JoshuaDBr - 11/20/2013, 6:55 AM
I just hope that "Justice League Dark" will be part of the DCCU.
KrazyForKomix - 11/20/2013, 7:02 AM
I just can't see them successfully producing a Justice League movie, and then looking the average movie going joe in the eye and saying, "Ta da! Here it is! Justice League DARK! Huh? Huh? Whaddya think? It's like the Justice League . . . BUT DARK! It's great, no?"
AC1 - 11/20/2013, 7:06 AM
Thanks cipher and hummingbird68
TopCat89 - 11/20/2013, 7:09 AM

AntMan - 11/20/2013, 7:09 AM
I really liked the Constantine movie, so I'm cool with him returning to the role if it happens.
JoeMomma29 - 11/20/2013, 7:09 AM
@ KrazyForKomix

LOL! Well I think there is a market for a Justice League Dark not a giant one but there is one. I could see a movie like that doing around 700 mill.
AntMan - 11/20/2013, 7:13 AM
"I'm really hoping they go for a blonde, brit cockney this time round"

Well that would be inaccurate considering Constantine wouldn't have a cockney accent. John Constantine is a scouser, so he would have a scouse accent.
AntMan - 11/20/2013, 7:28 AM
@beto

The question is, can Daniel Craig pull off a decent scouse accent? I'm she he could do one, but it would be better to get an actor from Liverpool to play the role, because then it will flow naturally.
KrazyForKomix - 11/20/2013, 7:28 AM
@ JoeMomma29
There's DEFINITELY a market out there for a magic based movie. But scheduling wise, IF Doctor Strange comes out first (which it does look like will happen), then that will hurt the "freshness" appeal of either a JLD or Hellblazer supernatural film. Personally, I think they should call it "Hellblazer" and just include 3 or 4 JL Darkers ala the planned for Batman/Superman flick.
Either way, the movie will be dead on arrival if they call it Justice League Dark.

It would be seen by the public the same way comic fans see the "Great Lakes Avengers."
AntMan - 11/20/2013, 7:31 AM
@cipher

His accent may have been diluted a bit by moving around, but there is no way Constantine could get rid of that scouse accent and there is NO WAY he would have a cockney accent, unless they change things again.
AntMan - 11/20/2013, 7:34 AM
@blackandyellow

The 2 being interviewed have a scouse accent.

AntMan - 11/20/2013, 7:38 AM
@beto

There are different type of British accents. You can't have a comic book Constantine speaking in a cockney accent, since Constantine is from Liverpool. It would be like a New Yorker naturally having a Texas accent.
