Details On DAREDEVIL's Ties To THE AVENGERS; Will Charlie Cox Appear In CIVIL WAR?

There's been a lot of talk about when Daredevil will be set, but we now have a much clearer idea about which movie the Netflix drama will take place after! There are also new details on how it connects to the MCU, while Charlie Cox weighs in on whether ol' Horn Head will join The Avengers...

When and where in the Marvel Cinematic Universe does Daredevil take place? We still don't have a specific date and time (before or after the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. in The Winter Soldier for example), but Marvel Television's Emma Fleischer did at least confirm in an interview with Empire Magazine that it follows the events of The Avengers. "We are still part of the Marvel Universe," she explianed, "but we are not explicitly in that Agenstts of S.H.I.E.L.D. world. We're in our own corner. So the aliens came down and ruined the ciy, and this is the story of Hell's Kitchen's rebuild." This is further confirmed by the publication when they mention seeing a framed newspaper in the office of the New York Bulletin showing Stark Tower "being zapped by a Chitauri laser beam".

The fact that Daredevil is being released on Netflix before Avengers: Age of Ultron hits the big screen probably means the first season won't deal with any sort of fallout from that, but it could of course crop up in a second season. Does showrunner Steven S. DeKnight think another run of episodes will happen? "We certainly hope so! I mean, it's totally up to Netflix. But I think it's a phenomenal season and we certainly end in up a place where we could tell many other stories." Star Charlie Cox meanwhile wasn't willing to say too much about how The Man Without Fear connects to the rest of the heroes he shares a universe with, but did say that fans should be on the lookout for "a couple of very casual Easter egg reference to other superheroes." When the magazine put it to him that a Captain America: Civil War appearance would work for Daredevil, he apparently said he wouldn't turn down the invitation, but cautioned that "in this show, Daredevil feels special, like a big thing, not an everyday occurence. It's not like he's one of that lot..."

Everything connects.
Nickk - 2/26/2015, 9:40 AM
exciting the supergirl tv is still
TheMfayz - 2/26/2015, 9:40 AM
I'd love to see Dare Devil in Civil War. Not at all worried about Civil War getting too crammed with too many characters. The Russos can handle it
Ghostyy - 2/26/2015, 9:41 AM
He could be in it.It doesn't really have to be a big part.
batz11 - 2/26/2015, 9:41 AM
Everything is connected...hope he shows up in CW...
DrDoom - 2/26/2015, 9:42 AM
I don't think Daredevil needs to be in Civil War at all. He should appear in the movies eventually, but Civil War is already crammed.
DrDoom - 2/26/2015, 9:42 AM
Maybe like, a cameo in a video screen, where someone is looking at footage of various superheroes in the world, but that's it.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 2/26/2015, 9:43 AM
Spell check is needed badly or proof reading is needed because their is many mistakes written in this article.

Again, where did all of the alien invasion in NYC take place. Didn't Cap send a perimeter of 2 blocks with the police or something? Which parts of the city got hit?
Bucky - 2/26/2015, 9:45 AM
I wouldn't mind seeing Daredevil in Civil War, but it's not something I particularly want to see. I just think this early into his career, Daredevil would want to steer clear of the whole registration mess. And Cox is right, Daredevil isn't really "one of that lot".

Love the continuity. Fox and WB take notes. ;)
Bucky - 2/26/2015, 9:45 AM
Plus, Daredevil wasn't even a part of the Civil War in the comics.
AstonishingArachnid - 2/26/2015, 9:46 AM
Just have a montage of government agents being sent after Superheroes who won't register. That way we can have a brief badass cameo of Daredevil fighting gmen that adds to the story but doesn't weigh down the movie.
UltimateHunt - 2/26/2015, 9:47 AM
I hope it's good
NovaCorpsFan - 2/26/2015, 9:48 AM
I reckon people'll react to DD in a sort of, "He's just like one of us!" kinda way in the show.
Nickk - 2/26/2015, 9:49 AM
@LEVITKUZ im So Hungry right now
speedyg33 - 2/26/2015, 9:49 AM
Murdock as capts lawyer
DrDoom - 2/26/2015, 9:49 AM

I like that idea a lot. Give him a tiny cameo fighting off goons in a montage along with a couple of other heroes who don't really factor into the story.
YeezusWept - 2/26/2015, 9:51 AM

The battle was in Midtown. It's no stretch that a few aliens could've snuck past that perimeter and [frick]ed up Hell's Kitchen.
hufflepuff69 - 2/26/2015, 9:51 AM
Or just like the panel above have him getting arrested, make an example out of him and other defenders
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/26/2015, 9:52 AM
Cool.Love me some MCU.

@TheRealRemyLebeau What's up my goon.
KeyBrains - 2/26/2015, 9:52 AM
Nice picture of Iron Fist there.
Invictor - 2/26/2015, 9:52 AM

"Plus, Daredevil wasn't even a part of the Civil War in the comics."

Lol, what?
LeeroyJenkins - 2/26/2015, 9:53 AM
might wanna use spellcheck next time
Invictor - 2/26/2015, 9:54 AM
It'd be really cool to see him in there with the other heroes.
YeezusWept - 2/26/2015, 9:55 AM
For reference, Hell's Kitchen is in Midtown West. Same general area as the portal.

Bucky - 2/26/2015, 9:55 AM

Daredevil wasn't a part of Civil War. He was in jail at the time. The guy you see in the Daredevil suit in Civil War isn't Daredevil, it's Iron Fist.
Invictor - 2/26/2015, 9:57 AM

Oh [frick], I forgot about that. It was before Clint was brought back as Ronin. My bad, lol.
LEVITIKUZ - 2/26/2015, 9:57 AM

Daredevil wasn't in Civil War?

Reasonnnn - 2/26/2015, 9:58 AM
@Kingpin The more the merrier! Damn it Fisk, this is MCU's version of Civil War! :)
Jeight - 2/26/2015, 9:58 AM
@Levitikuz Dude, that's Iron Fist. DD was in Jaile during the Brubake run that Civil War takes place. use the gif you posted on yourself.
126thst - 2/26/2015, 10:00 AM
so many spelling errors, so little time....
KeyBrains - 2/26/2015, 10:00 AM

It's difficult to draw the line for some characters like Daredevil and Hank Pym. Were they in it or not? The context gets lost and the characters play their roles whether or not there is someone else lurking under the mask. I was reading Kree/Skrull war not too long ago and enjoying it and then they cut to Thor and he's thinking to himself, 'in reality I'm not even Thor I'm some other guy, hope nobody notices', and it bummed me out. I think Civil War tried to get around those issues by having the characters be who they presented themselves as.
Bekss - 2/26/2015, 10:02 AM
DeKnight has already confirmed that Daredevil takes place in present time (like most of Marvel stuff).
After Cap 2 and before AoU
Gusto - 2/26/2015, 10:03 AM
Godamn...I wish they'd
cast Iron Fist already.
batz11 - 2/26/2015, 10:03 AM
ckal - 2/26/2015, 10:04 AM
In the comics Daredevil refused to ever join the Avengers until he joined the secret Avengers like 5 years ago.

Makes sense if he didn't show up in much else or join teams aside from casual team ups.
Sodomite - 2/26/2015, 10:05 AM
Cap 3 Civil War will have a similar weakness of BVS. In BVS Superman and Batfleck meet for the 1st time as adversaries. They aren't friends who know everything about each other as in TDR. So the fight won't have the tone it would if both were friends for years.

In Civil War only the Avengers know each other. Spider-Man, DD and others will be strangers. Even if Peter Parker unmasks in Civil War it won't matter because we haven't seen this version before. It will feel like a superhero being unmasked in a pilot TV episode or their 1st movie.
And because they are strangers personal moments like Murdoch calling Stark Judas or Parker turning on Stark will be just words with no weight.

In both cases the timing is off. Civil war should've been after Spider-Man and DD were established in the MCU and the audience is acquainted with them.

This is like Wrath Of Khan without Space Seed. Which was Into Darkness. Or Luke VS Vader in Empire without Star Wars.
