LUTHER Director Farren Blackburn Confirms That He Will Helm DAREDEVIL Episode

Farren Blackburn has helmed a number of TV episodes for the BBC, including well-known shows like Doctor Who, Luther and The Fades. Well, the director has now taken to Twitter to reveal that his next project will be an episode of Daredevil for Marvel and Netflix.

With Drew Goddard busy with the movie pretty much nobody wants to see (that's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 spin-off Sinister Six in case you missed the news), Marvel hired Steven S. DeKnight as Daredevil's new showrunner and are obviously on the hunt for anyway for directors to tackle various instalments of the 13-episode Netflix series. While we don't know which episode it will be, British director Farren Blackburn has confirmed that he will be working on at least one episode of the drama which stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio and Rosario Dawson.

For those of you wondering, Blackburn directed the Doctor Who episodes, "The Rings of Akhaten" and "The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe". His Luther contribution were the very impressive final two episodes of season three, and that his work on the Idris Elba led drama alone should serve as proof that he will have no problems adapting to the gritty world of Matt Murdock's Hell's Kitchen.

Is Luther any good?
DrDoom - 6/21/2014, 10:40 AM

Just tell us the rest of the cast already, dammit.
HurricaneXavier - 6/21/2014, 10:41 AM
Also, not sure I would say he's going to "helm" Daredevil, he is just doing an episode, right?
SuperCat - 6/21/2014, 10:42 AM
Love "Luther ." Never watched "Dr. Who," so I guess this is good news.
blackagar94 - 6/21/2014, 10:43 AM
Yeah Luther is good, and very dark. I wouldn't mind if the tone of Daredevil were similar to the one of Luther.
HurricaneXavier - 6/21/2014, 10:43 AM
I have never seen Dr. Who either but Luther is on my Netflix queue, just wasn't sure if it was worth watching.
Destined - 6/21/2014, 10:44 AM
Solid choice.
DannyRand1225 - 6/21/2014, 10:53 AM
i have never watched luther but im a BIG Doctor Who fan, he directed two episodes in "The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe" and "The Rings of Akhaten" two alright episodes but two of Matt Smiths Best performances as his run as The choice, hope he does well

i have heard that bendis isnt involved with the daredevil show because he is busy with Powers but Waid has been asked to be involved on some level ,i have a feeling that it might be more Mark Waid Daredevil in tone which is fine imo,i really like his run
WYLEEJAY - 6/21/2014, 10:54 AM
Hey.....I want to watch Sinister Six. My wants are more important than anyone else's.
DannyRand1225 - 6/21/2014, 10:55 AM
TheAmbassador-they are first gonna shoot daredevil, then jessica jones, then luke cage and iron fist so maybe later on the year, we will get more news on those
LMB10 - 6/21/2014, 10:55 AM
Those Doctor Who episodes were terrible... That said, they were pretty nice visually, and Luther's great.
JoJo1982 - 6/21/2014, 11:01 AM

Luther is pretty dark tone at times, so that would be perfect for Daredevil show
BlkThunderGod - 6/21/2014, 11:04 AM
I'm halfway thru Luther and I'm loving it. I know the daredevil series will be off the chain. Just waiting on the iron fist and Luke cage castings. I'm thinking Ryan gosling for iron fist.
marvelmaniaco - 6/21/2014, 11:07 AM
For the record a lot of people do want to see the sinister six movie including me and if you don't that's fine it's your opinion just don't watch the film... But don't ruin it for everyone else
charlie2094 - 6/21/2014, 11:10 AM
Nice! What I've seen of Luther looked great, heard great stuff about it. Good addition :D
GUNSMITH - 6/21/2014, 11:12 AM
BreadPool - 6/21/2014, 11:12 AM
Luther is pretty great. I'm exited about this. Hopefully it's the pilot episode
WYLEEJAY - 6/21/2014, 11:14 AM
@Dio. LMAO! Less teeth next time please.

And I have come to the realization, that if you constantly adjust your story over a long period of time, something that you once thought was a great idea, turns out to be garbage. So.....I guess slowly would be my answer to that. Lol
DannyRand1225 - 6/21/2014, 11:25 AM
cant wait for this show,im sad that drew goddard left but understand why..what will help his career more? a big budget blockbuster or a netflix tv show?.its sad because he has on MANY occasions said that his favorite hero was Daredevil but now i think Steven DeKnight, who is a comic book fan himself, will do good, he has a good cast so far with Rosario Dawson, Vincent D Onofrio as Wilson Fisk and Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil
marvel72 - 6/21/2014, 11:26 AM
luthor is pretty popular in the uk,so he wouldn't be a bad choice.
Vegeta - 6/21/2014, 11:29 AM
Well, Luthor is pretty good, so I'm cool with this. I can't wait for this show!
OldBenKenobi - 6/21/2014, 11:42 AM
Then this should be very good. I love Luther.
DeusExSponge - 6/21/2014, 11:42 AM
Can't wait for this to be released in one huge batch! Then it's time for a marathon.
Vegeta - 6/21/2014, 11:42 AM
jimoakley666 - 6/21/2014, 11:43 AM
Cool. Luther is fuking ace.
homodrome - 6/21/2014, 11:46 AM
Marvel has me foaming at the mouth for this Daredevil series.

Drew Goddard writes fantastic genre fare.
Steven DeKnight's work on Spartacus had some of the best fight scenes on TV.
I've heard great things about Charlie Cox, and an actor who most people won't know works so well for Murdock.
We won't be looking at the actor, but at the character (One of the biggest downfalls of the film was Affleck's celeb persona... not so good script/acting etc aside).
Rosario Dawson will be fantastic in whatever role she is in.
We likely won't get Elektra in the first season, meaning we get that much more time for Matt to establish himself. Elektra is fantastic, but she's such a rich character to do her justice might of been at the cost of the best Daredevil.
homodrome - 6/21/2014, 11:47 AM
And also Luther is one of those great BBC shows that have the perfect balance of true crime/hard boiled/noir without being camp.
Inhuman - 6/21/2014, 11:49 AM
Haha the article is right. Nobody wants to see Sinister Six lol..

I need to get Netflix ASAP. Marvel and Clone Wars final season =D
kakinurmawth - 6/21/2014, 11:54 AM
Oh HELL YES! Luther is a [frick]ing fantastic show. Idris Elba is one of my favorite actors. Just finished the third season on Netflix, damn shit was intense. I like his directing style and his input on Daredevil will be a great addition.
kakinurmawth - 6/21/2014, 11:56 AM
Dude not at all like Dexter. Luther is a detective show. It's great. Definitely give it a shot. And Season three was just released on Netflix so binge watching is always a plus hahah
DannyRand1225 - 6/21/2014, 11:57 AM
Homodrone-one thing im worried about is apparently these shows will only be 13 episodes and then culminate in the Defenders miniseries,i hope they go beyond the Defenders,i think these characters have enough potential for more episodes then just 13
IcemanX - 6/21/2014, 11:58 AM
Luther and Sherlock are the best british tv shows!!!
Ranger14 - 6/21/2014, 12:03 PM
Love Luther! Two episodes left in my que for this last season. On slate for tonight!

Good news as far as I am concerned.
DannyRand1225 - 6/21/2014, 12:04 PM
Batmaniac-thats a cool pic of how Charlie Cox might look as Matt
DannyRand1225 - 6/21/2014, 12:15 PM
im still intrigued by who Rosario Dawson could be playing, its interesting that they didnt tell us who she is playing, they did tell us who Charlie Cox and Vincent D Onofrio are playing,if it was a comic character, why would they not tell us but if it was also a original character just for the show, why would they not tell us either? hmmm..
GreenLantern519 - 6/21/2014, 12:16 PM
Luther's a great crime drama, so he'll be a fine addition.
Stubner - 6/21/2014, 12:19 PM
So hard to take this article seriously after reading the first sentence.

LUTHER is amazing for anyone wondering. This is great news for sure, well, for me at least.
CaptShipwreck - 6/21/2014, 12:24 PM
Great news , Luther is a damn good show
TheRealRemyLebeau - 6/21/2014, 12:43 PM
@joshwilding You said this: " With Drew Goddard busy with the movie pretty much nobody wants to see (that's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 spin-off Sinister Six in case you missed the news)"
