Season 2 is going to be insane

I don't think it's necessarily that the last few episodes were objectively bad, it's just that the show raised the bar so high earlier in the season that it was disappointing for the season to end that way, IMO. The show started out as a new, fresh, interesting take on a part of the MCU we've never seen before. But to me, it wrapped things up as if it were a generic superhero show that played things too safe and didn't take any risks at all.

@KurtWagner1225 But what's interesting about Murdock and Fisk isn't whether the former can take down the latter in a street fight, though. It's their ideologies, their different mindsets on how to "save" their city. 95% of the first season understood that perfectly, but that last episode turned Fisk into an outright villain (instead of someone who's just convinced that they have to do dirty things for the greater good, like he was in every episode up to that point) and boiled down their entire conflict into "Who can knock out the other guy first?" And with his speech, he says that he used to think of himself as the Good Samaritan (which is how it should be), but now he realizes he's the guys who beat up the victim in the first place. That's what kind of messes up his entire arc, IMO.

I really liked Ben too, but so much of his storyline was wasted by killing him just when he was about to go into uncharted territory. After finally being convinced to run his meaningful Fisk story and after being fired from the newspaper company he hated, he should've been given the opportunity to actually go down that new road and open up brand new possibilities for his character. But instead, just when his story threatened to change and upset the status quo, the writers decided to kill him off. That's the definition of playing things safe.

We'll probably just have to agree to disagree here haha, but I just wanted to get others thoughts on that since I missed the earlier discussions. So I appreciate your thoughts!

Right back at ya, man! Differences in opinion is what makes things interesting, so yeah it's definitely cool to see someone else's take on something.

@SauronsBANE Way to put into words my feelings nearly to a T about the end of season 1. There was a very obvious tonal shift from "well-written, interesting crime drama" to "superhero cheese x793" that totally took me out of the show.

I agree that Urich's death was disappointing, and I would add that I was hoping for a few other displays of DD's powers. I'll admit, I haven't read a lot of DD comics, but can't he read papers by feeling the ink on the page? Stuff like that, or when he drops the fire extinguisher on the guy is awesome, gimme more!

I'd have also liked to see a bit more of his origin, but I'm sure we'll get more of that in season 2.

Did anyone else think many of the fight scenes followed the same beats a little too often? By that, I mean a fight would go something like "Matt and Guy fight. Guy gets the upper hand. Matt then has moment of inspiration and comes back hard to defeat Guy."

Despite all that, I swear I really, really liked the show :)

Fingers crossed for a spiderman episode

I actually like the mentally challenged take they have on Gladiator more than the one in the comics. It seperates a small supporting character from the other characters in the show, making him stand out.

Pretty much nailed it. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but there was a lurch sometime very late, and it was like it was almost a different show.

I don't know if this is actually hinting at anything. The schematic has DAREDEVIL SUIT written on it and the buzz saw just seems like a reference to the fact that Melvin made the suit.
