Has David Slade Revealed Who He Wants To Star In His DAREDEVIL Reboot?

This is sketchy, but worth speculating upon. A Twitter exchange between Slade and fan might just have given us an idea as to which actor - one Slade has worked with previously - the director would like to see play Matt Murdock in his reboot..

The following Twitter exchange, first noticed by Empire, has given way to a bit of the usual internet speculation..

As we know, David Slade has been charged by Fox to bring us a Daredevil reboot, said to be based on Frank Miller's "Born Again" comic storyline. But things have not been running too smoothly, with the director taking other projects on board, and many wondering if the movie would even see the light of day. Has this given us an inkling that Slade would like his 30 Days Of Night star to suit up as "The Man Without Fear"? Possibly, but of course he may also have been referring to the first part of the Tweet - meaning he also hopes to be able to get working on the movie soon. Or, he was referring to Hartnett but only that he would like to see him finally get a role in a Marvel movie (he was beaten to the role of Loki in Thor by Tom Hiddleston). One way or the other, Slade has since deleted the Tweet so take from that what you will.

What do you think? And could you see Hartnett in the role if this did come to pass?

Josh Hartnett will be very cool for the role; I've been wanting to see more of him in CBM's, aside of 30 Days of Night. Then again, that's surely quite an enigmatic statement...

Fox are so sly the way they just start development just to keep the rights then crawl along at a snails pace. I'm gonna be an old man before i see daredevil and Fantastic four on the big screen. I'll admit i'm a fan of such arrogance.
Crossbones - 6/18/2012, 7:14 AM
Josh Hartnett is a good actor, but I've never seen him in a action movie before so I'm kinda not sure about it, if this is true.
MarkJulian - 6/18/2012, 7:16 AM
Was great in Lucky Number Slevin.
Jolt17 - 6/18/2012, 7:19 AM
I forgot that Slade is also the director of 30 Days of Night - think they can be a great combo for Daredevil, too. But, still...oh, they better make the project move, first of all.
DukeAcureds - 6/18/2012, 7:26 AM
Hartnett is a damn good choice. But, you know Fox is just doing all this to keep the rights. We may not even see a new DD movie. If we do, though, I hope it doesn't go over the Elektra/ Bullseye or origin grounds that the original already covered. Okay, so that film totally screwed the pooch by skipping the college years and miscasting Elektra, but it adapted DD 181 perfectly. We don't need to do that again.
RunDTC - 6/18/2012, 7:28 AM
interesting....not my first choice, but I wouldn't complain.
ksommer - 6/18/2012, 7:28 AM
Or, he could be saying that he hopes he gets back to the Daredevil movie and it has nothing to do with Josh Hartnett.
TheDickRises - 6/18/2012, 7:29 AM
@yoss
bastard fox
JMESS - 6/18/2012, 7:29 AM
Hartnett seems like a pretty good choice but really anything and anyone is better than that last p.o.s movie.
126thst - 6/18/2012, 7:29 AM
1. I have no faith in this director, and doubt this movie comes out with him attached. 2. I wish Marvel could get the rights to this character back so the movie can be done correctly.
LAXtremest - 6/18/2012, 7:29 AM
I didn't think Daredevil was THAT bad personally. They raped Bullseye though. And Electra was a little ridiculous.
ATrueHero1987 - 6/18/2012, 7:31 AM
@Owlman No, but it almost was. Yep, the rights for DD were VERY close to reverting.
marvel72 - 6/18/2012, 7:35 AM
might be alright, can't be any worse than affleck.
Extricator - 6/18/2012, 7:38 AM
noooooooooo
superotherside - 6/18/2012, 7:38 AM
IDK I don't think I've seen him play in anything.
driver - 6/18/2012, 7:38 AM
If it's true i good with it/Josh is coll!
ATrueHero1987 - 6/18/2012, 7:39 AM
Who knows when we will see FF or DD back in theaters. FOX may move forward with FF based on the success of The Avengers & how well TASM does but like I said, who knows? Last month, they said a New Mutants movie was in development and I would NOT be surprised if I see that before the DD reboot.
SuperDude001 - 6/18/2012, 7:40 AM
Josh Hartnett could work, only problem is he's one of those actors who no matter how could they are at a role they do kinda annoy me for some unknown reason.

LAXtremest @ I agree. It wasn't exactly good, but not awful.

cabbie655 - 6/18/2012, 7:44 AM
Cool choice. Hopefully it will pan out.
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/18/2012, 7:47 AM
Hartnett could be cool Murdock. I wouldnt mind if he gets the role.

They seriously needs to start making the damn movie already. Hopefully we see Stick as Daredevil´s mentor.

The Hand and Kirigi, Bullseye, Kingpin, Silvermane, Hammerhead, The Owl, The Enforcers or Mr. Fear would make a great villains.
spidey1994 - 6/18/2012, 7:47 AM
Interesting choice.
figuresmaniac - 6/18/2012, 7:51 AM
He was in Sin City also...
thalidomide - 6/18/2012, 7:52 AM
I'm not really sure about this.
JohnWilbanks - 6/18/2012, 7:54 AM
Please no...
marckos - 6/18/2012, 7:55 AM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, MICHAEL C. HALL PLEASE!!!!!!!!
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/18/2012, 8:02 AM
I dont remember who but someone once said here that Daredevil stunts needs to be made by Damien Walters.

I totally agree!:)

BattlinMurdock - 6/18/2012, 8:03 AM
This is good because Hartnett has experience with both the director (30 Days) and Frank Miller material (Sin City).

That being said, I think the problem will be the fact that they're doing the Born Again saga.

What makes the Born Again saga so fantastic?

Kingpin's long-standing legacy.
The tumultuous relationship between Matt and Karen.
The absolute despair and redemption of Matt when he returns to becoming Daredevil.
The Avengers showing up.

So, basically four major things that either A) can't happen because it's a reboot and needs backstory or B) belongs to Fox properties.
CaptainAmerica1 - 6/18/2012, 8:04 AM
Movie will fail before it even starts if they cast him. Will be the Ben Aflek version all over again
BattlinMurdock - 6/18/2012, 8:14 AM
Jake Gyllenhaal wouldn't be bad, either. Especially if Duncan Jones was directing. My top are:

1. Jake Gyllenhaal
2. Michael C. Hall
3. Hartnett
ImnotDaredevil - 6/18/2012, 8:15 AM
I must admit, I could see him in the role but would like to see it set in a similar time/way as mean streets or sleepers.
GreyChaos13Zero - 6/18/2012, 8:25 AM
would'nt mind, thought 30 Days of Night was great?)

wildbillyb - 6/18/2012, 8:31 AM
So wait, first Josh takes Ben's girl during World War 2, and now he's going to possibly make a better daredevil? c'mon josh, give Ben a break.
MrReese - 6/18/2012, 8:42 AM
"he was beaten to the role of Loki in Thor by Tom Hiddleston"

GOOD.Josh would have been a terrible Loki. Tom FTW!!! XD
FlappyJax - 6/18/2012, 8:47 AM
The naysayers are wrong. Hartnett would be great as Matt. Ever see Bunraku? He'd make a damn good Gambit too.

@BattlinMurdock: Born Again was one of the first Daredevil stories I ever read, and even without much prior knowledge of the characters, It still became one of my favorite comics, and still is to this day. Though I do think they'd be better off doing a direct adaption of The Man Without Fear beforehand.
tripttwe - 6/18/2012, 8:48 AM
@ AlexDeLarge87 - Damien Walters. I'm all in. I'd like to see Michael C. Hall, go at this first, but I like Hartnett as a close second. I just wanna see him in the MCU anyways...
tripttwe - 6/18/2012, 8:52 AM
I freefall I like the idea of Gambit or even Iron Fist for Hartnett as well...
DukeAcureds - 6/18/2012, 9:00 AM
Firg@ I'm definitely up for Affleck directing.
The directors cut of Daredevil is so much better. And I don't know about raping Bullseye. I thought Colin Farrel's Bullseye was awesome. Even those stupid little comedic moments. Bullseye was a badass in that movie.
TheBatman50k - 6/18/2012, 9:00 AM
huh could be interesting, I like David Slade so this could be really cool. The one I have always wanted to see is a live action scene of Daredevil based on the Frank Miller DD comic "Roulette" that would be amazing.
ralfinader - 6/18/2012, 9:05 AM
I liked the first DD. Wasn't perfect at all, but it had a decent pace and some pretty cool scenes, IMO. I don't care who they cast as DD, as long as it ain't Ryan Reynolds.
Talontd - 6/18/2012, 9:08 AM
Like many others, I would LOVE to see MICHAEL C. HALL, get the role, but I never thought about JOSH HARTNETT......I loved LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN, and think HARNETT is a solid actor....just hurry the fcuk up already, I'm down!!!
ThaMessenger07 - 6/18/2012, 9:16 AM
Please no.....He's cool and all, but he's not DD....
DukeAcureds - 6/18/2012, 9:18 AM
MATT DAMON!
(sorry, really can't help that)
DukeAcureds - 6/18/2012, 9:19 AM
Talontd@ Slevin's awesome. The script just doesn't give a [frick], it's having fun no matter what people think.
kingshnake - 6/18/2012, 9:21 AM
It needs to be a ginger...hmmmmm.....Seth Green anyone????
DukeAcureds - 6/18/2012, 9:27 AM
kingshnake@ For Matt Murdock? No. Love the Green, but just... really, no.
JatevinM - 6/18/2012, 9:32 AM
He was pretty great in Bunraku
SUPERBATSPIDERMAN - 6/18/2012, 9:33 AM
Josh is good in my book. He was great in 30 Days of Night and he would be great as Matt Murdock.
ThaMessenger07 - 6/18/2012, 9:35 AM
I say Chris Pine or Ryan Gosling...

kingshnake - 6/18/2012, 9:39 AM
I agree with Josh Hartenett but I'm Irish and ginger if this is still in pre-production by the time I'm say 25 hell I'll do it!!
