Stephen Amell Talks JUSTICE LEAGUE; Believes ARROW Will Soon Use "Green Arrow" Name

Arrow star Stephen Amell reveals why he's relieved that Geoff Johns recently made it clear that the DC movie and television universes are two separate entities, before going on to reveal that he believes the show will soon be calling "The Arrow", "Green Arrow". Oh, and the goatee? Read on for details...

Collider caught up with Arrow star Stephen Amell during this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, and following the news that the television and movie DC universes will be kept apart for the foreseeable future (you can read more details on that by clicking here), the site were quick to question him about whether or not he's relieved to no longer have to deal with questions and speculation in regards to if he'll be a part of Zack Snyder's future Justice League movie. "Yes — and by the way, there’s a The Flash show, we have Firestorm, we have Canary, we have The Atom… The actual Justice League film — I don’t know when that’s coming out. You can watch The Justice League on television now. But the reason I’m happy to not have to answer the question anymore is because I think it undersold what we did on TV. I would put our degree of difficulty – having to produce twenty-two episodes of television every year, spinning off the show, giving people the confidence to green-light other DC properties — up there with producing a two hundred million dollar film. They’re very different things. I never want to feel as though our existence is only going to be justified by being part of the cinematic universe. That has nothing to do with anything. We are stamping out our own spot."

"I really do think we are moving to a spot where we will refer to my character as ‘The Green Arrow’," the actor revealed when talk then turned to how The CW series will continue to develop the Starling City superhero currently known as "The Arrow" (which is a huge improvement over "The Vigilante" name he went by during season one). "We are moving to a spot where we will continue to embrace the fundamental classic elements of the character. Because we have that license now. We’re 46 episodes in. People like it. They buy into it. But unless this character is evolving — The Hood to Arrow to The Green Arrow — then people are going to lose interest. So I always want there to be a journey for him. And this year’s journey is really interesting."

Will that journey include a certain goatee? "No."

very good.
Bread - 7/27/2014, 6:53 PM
It's for the best. The shows will have more freedom.
Xandera - 7/27/2014, 6:54 PM
Sweet! It'll be awesome to hear him called Green Arrow. It would also be great to give him the classic facial hair.
ComicFan523 - 7/27/2014, 6:55 PM
I'm okay with separate universes so long as they let the people on Arrow do what they want to do in terms of stories and characters. Like with Harley Quinn being teased last season, WB should let the show's writers use her as a villain or recurring character if they want, even if she's more of a Batman villain than a Green Arrow villain.
NovaCorpsFan - 7/27/2014, 6:56 PM
By soon, I assume by the end of this season.
JackRyan9859 - 7/27/2014, 6:58 PM
"The Arrow" (which is a huge improvement over "The Vigilante" name her went by during season one).

Doopie - 7/27/2014, 6:59 PM
what's with all the moving to spots?
WhiteSAMURAI - 7/27/2014, 7:01 PM
I this I prefer it being all one universe. I mean when is the DCCU ever going to care that much to make a Green Arrow for their universe. I think there's ways of having them be in the same universe without impacting each other to much. By the way, is Constantine going to be part of the CW universe.
Phronesis - 7/27/2014, 7:01 PM
Just read Longbow Hunters again recently, I forgot how inspired the show was from that story.
WhiteSAMURAI - 7/27/2014, 7:02 PM
@JackRyan9859 I noticed that too. I think he meant he instead of her.
soforizo - 7/27/2014, 7:03 PM
Well at least neither of these is anywhere as bad as the fanboy obsession with "white eyes" in relation to GA, GL and Batman.
DatScarletPimPerNeLL - 7/27/2014, 7:05 PM
So only villains can sport dastardly beards, goatees and 'staches, but not the hero(minus flashbacks)?
BrowniesExplode - 7/27/2014, 7:05 PM
Is this show any good? I hear good things expect that season 1 had a few filler episodes thats about it
McGee - 7/27/2014, 7:07 PM
Well they have to NOW. We have three Arrows on the show. One Green, one Red and one Black.

FastFlames - 7/27/2014, 7:08 PM
Nice. I have no reason to doubt arrow'
FordEl - 7/27/2014, 7:10 PM
I dont see a reason why adding green in the name is so important bc it really isnt.
sappro - 7/27/2014, 7:10 PM
Given that there will soon be red arrows flying around, i'm sure they'll find a clever way to keep them identified seperately...

@AlphaAndDecima. White eyes would work with someone like Batman because he actually wears stuff over his eyes to scan things and stuff like that but it doesn't really matter. But I'm pretty sure most of the characters have white eyes have them because the eyes would have been too small for print back when the characters were made. Or the artists were just lazy.
dapussy - 7/27/2014, 7:13 PM
Shit from start to finish and ya,ll know it. DC sucks

I LOVE ARROW! But if they are going to "embrace the fundamental classic elements of the character" He is need to have GA traditional Facial hair.

And, as I recently found out, Green Arrow don't have a gotee, He have a VAn Dyke beard!

can't wait for season 3... :)
McGee - 7/27/2014, 7:28 PM

dckizzle - 7/27/2014, 7:31 PM
More characters that's all we need baby
halvor311 - 7/27/2014, 7:36 PM
If the movies and shows won't be connected, then they should bring in their own interpretations of Superman and Batman, they shouldn't be limited in who they can use, it's just dumb from a marketing standpoint. Just let them do whatever they want with whatever characters they want.
BlackIceJoe - 7/27/2014, 7:36 PM
I am happy to hear that soon he'll be called Green Arrow. Also thanks Nomis I was going to say something like that. I can't understand why people keep calling the scruff a goatee. I'm also not sure it will happen but I would like to see Blue Beetle and Booster Gold show up on Arrow or the Flash. If they even wanted to bring in Plastic Man and Elongated Man. I would be fine with that too.
feedonatreefrog - 7/27/2014, 7:42 PM
Justice League in the movies, while on CW, we get the Justice League of America

Green Arrow
The Atom
The Flash

run by Amanda Waller

♫ My balls are small I know, but they're not yours, they are my own ♫
Nomis - 7/27/2014, 7:43 PM
@ feedonatreefrog - LOL! YOu might be on to something there.
Banner - 7/27/2014, 7:47 PM
If Batman v Superman will remain true to The Dark Knight Returns then Green Arrow should be helping Batman beat Clark's @ss!
GliderMan - 7/27/2014, 7:49 PM
"I never want to feel as though our existence is only going to be justified by being part of the cinematic universe."

Too bad, because that's how I feel. Call me spoiled rotten, call me an untrue fan, but what I want from superhero movies is a cinematic universe. Warner Bros. could have given us a massive superhero universe, but they chose not to, and I firmly believe that was the wrong decision, for various reasons.

So yeah, I'm [frick]ing butthurt.

Arsenal will force the color ms
UltimateCookie - 7/27/2014, 7:58 PM
Love Arrow. I also want a costume change for Oliver. Feel like Arsenal literally having the same outfit just in red is too much.
typicalfanboy - 7/27/2014, 8:04 PM
amell is mad bro. i think he wants the focus to be on his show rather than stupid questions about what he thinks of the justice league. its a fun show and is miles ahead of the other comicbook based shows on tv.
UltimateCookie - 7/27/2014, 8:06 PM
I need that beard on Arrow. Just use some fake facial hair like they do for the opening credits and his scenes on the island.
TheStranger - 7/27/2014, 8:08 PM
@typicalfanboy Yeah it kinda seemed like he might be a bit frustrated that he won't ever been in the movies, yet also kinda like "alright enough, it sux I agree, lets move on and just swallow the bitter pill"

Yeah it is definitely amazing. Better than SHIELD, yet SHIELD sets itself apart by being part of the MCU so both are cool at the moment, just Arrow feels a bit more quality.
JorL5150 - 7/27/2014, 8:09 PM
Frankly I think he gave the perfect answer - and I'm glad he's showing some real pride and protectiveness in his show without talk anything away from "batman v superman "

Classy guy. If he weren't such a beefcake I'd like em.
