DEADPOOL Writers Have Talked With Mark Millar, Discuss Script Leak

DEADPOOL Writers Have Talked With Mark Millar, Discuss Script Leak

The Deadpool writers remain hopeful the film gets made and are exploring every avenue including burning a whole in Mark Millar's ear. Reese and Wernick also discuss the fact that the script is out on the internet for everyone to read.

Deadpool Rhett Rease and Paul Wernick

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are doing press this week for G.I. Joe: Retaliation. If you've visited this site often, you've probably realized that these marketing blitz's sometimes result in talent discussing everything but the project they're supposed to be talking about hence, the recent uptick in news on Deadpool and Venom (two projects that feature scripts written by the duo). Below, the screenwriting pair talk to /Film about the effort it's taking to get Deadpool greenlit and their reaction to discovering that their script had leaked online.

Deadpool test footageHave the duo spoken to Mark Millar who was made a Creative Consultant at Fox 5 months ago?
Reese: We’ve been in touch with Mark, because he’s come on as a consultant for Fox, so we are talking to him and we are….

Wernick: We are beating that drum. It’s the one project that we are so passionate to get made and we are doing everything we can. We have a few tricks up our sleeves still.

Reese: We are living a game of thrones, or trying to.

Wernick: You can find the script online actually. It leaked and there are downloads that you can read it yourself.

The writers go on to discuss their initial dismay and then reluctant acceptance that the script was out there and that there's simply nothing they can do about it. It's out there but are they truly fine with that?

Wernick: As fine with that as we could be.
Reese: We really couldn’t be. I mean we didn’t have a choice. It leaked and we couldn’t do anything about it and for a minute we were appalled and then the reaction was great, so we were excited and now I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Wernick: Wait until you’ve seen Tim [Miller's] test [footage]. It’s brilliant.

Yes, the Deadpool script is indeed out there on the internet and pretty easy to find if you know where to look. Personally, I've only skimmed it as I didn't want to know everything beforehand, just in case the movie ever gets made. But what I did read was hilarious and definitely true to the comic book source material. Hopefully with Millar on board, Fox can move forward on a project that even has Ryan Reynolds excited.

the scripts pretty badass and most importantly a fun [frick]ing read, I say [frick] making a movie give the ongoing deadpool series to these guys they had Deadpools tone down perfectly even has nice little unexpected cameo well maybe more than a cameo since its quite integral part of the plot that didn't feel forced at all.
Hellsing - 3/26/2013, 2:58 PM
I think if Kick-Ass 2 does respectable business then I think Fox might consider it but according to a lot of people that apparently know shit about movies the first Kick-Ass didn't set the box office on fire so we'll how this one does.
CaptainObvious - 3/26/2013, 3:02 PM
I read the script a couple years ago and it would be a crime for this movie not to get made.
Hellsing - 3/26/2013, 3:14 PM

You're probably wondering. Why the red suit? It's so if you shoot me, you can't see me bleed.

ElmoTheThird - 3/26/2013, 3:18 PM
@Hellsing. With those scenes alone the movie sounds great.
Hellsing - 3/26/2013, 3:21 PM
@Elmo trust me its a gem
TheBeard - 3/26/2013, 3:22 PM
I read it a while back, its a joke that it has not been made.
supermarioworldE - 3/26/2013, 3:35 PM
This movie needs to get made if only to bring a pair of balls back to the superhero genre.

Dredd tanking at the box office was bad enough.
TheSuperguy - 3/26/2013, 3:37 PM
Hopefully all this news means the movie is getting closer to being green lighted.
laughterman26 - 3/26/2013, 3:38 PM
i loved the script, it truly was funny. oh and for you guys out there that havent been able to find it, you gotta type in "deadpool script pdf download." but yeah it truly was awesome. all i would want from it was less of reynolds face so silohuette that crap, cause when you see his face its should have that big reveal. and id change a couple things around here and there. but even with all the minor flaws here and there id still give it a 100 out of 10. the sequence at the beggining is probably one of the best opening on a film the could happen.
RadicalDuck - 3/26/2013, 3:39 PM
Love the character, so I really want to see this movie get made! Can someone who's read the script please post a link on here? It'd be great to read it :-)
ATrueHero1987 - 3/26/2013, 3:41 PM
This probably won't get made until AFTER F4 reboot comes out.
laughterman26 - 3/26/2013, 3:42 PM
OH MY GOD, BEST IDEA EVER, marvel should fire those two jokes doing the current deadpool series and get these guys to write it.

i hate the new dp comics dp is such a joke, what happened to the redemption profile that was promised in issue 33 where they will write tradgedies about this shit. get your shit together marvel stop making him a retard and start making him the mean, assasin, threatning, smartass that he is.
laughterman26 - 3/26/2013, 3:44 PM
radicalduck, seriously type in deadpool script pdf download on google and youll find it almost instantainously.

If you're wondering why an Ant-Man movie is in the works and Fox can't seem to get a Deadpool movie rolling it's because Marvel Studios actually pays attention to continuity and respects their source material. Because the MCU has been so successful attaching lesser known heroes like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange can work because they are part of something larger. On the other hand, Fox's big screen interpretation of Deadpool was vomit inducing and not even planned out for there to be a spin off movie.
thewonderer - 3/26/2013, 3:52 PM

Or because Ant-Man won't be Rated R.

Name one GOOD Rated R comic book movie with a budget of at least 50 million that was a financial success?

I dare anyone to. I want this movie made, but you people act like FOX has no reason to hesitate.
MisterNiceGuy - 3/26/2013, 3:52 PM
A lot of deadpool news lately. .
Ramiel - 3/26/2013, 3:52 PM
If Kick-Ass 1 and 2 can be made, then Deadpool should definitely be made.

Q: Does anyone have the link to the leaked DP script?
RetroFit - 3/26/2013, 3:53 PM
Read it. Loved it.
ATrueHero1987 - 3/26/2013, 4:00 PM
@thewonderer Challenge accepted! Blade 2 was made for $55 million, made a little over $155 million! A little more than 3 times what they spent to make it.
DanteSparda - 3/26/2013, 4:02 PM
Hope this gets made, I mean is fücking deadpool, Fox should be grateful to have the rights to use him and should have the courage of Marvel Studios to take big risks.
HAILHYDRA - 3/26/2013, 4:03 PM
@thewonderer, if Eric O'Grady is Ant-Man then it might rated R.
Julesimanerd - 3/26/2013, 4:04 PM
As much as I want this to happen, I doubt it will. I mean, if they do make it, I have a feelings it's not gonna be a blockbuster like they hope and are gonna lose money.

StrangerX - 3/26/2013, 4:09 PM
The best thing about Deadpool is he knows he's in a comic, and in a movie. I can picture Reynolds already in character on screen telling the audience who read the script to stfu.
DeadPoolLax - 3/26/2013, 4:15 PM
over the recent weeks, there has been more and more Deadpool talk. Hopefully, this means GOOD news to come soon. i think either FOX or Mark Millar have some big news coming soon, and hopefully this is it.... one can only hope
alecwright - 3/26/2013, 4:25 PM
Is Ryan Reynolds 'locked in' to play Deadpool?

Ugh. I hope not. We can't do better than this guy???
fortycals - 3/26/2013, 4:35 PM
Damn this needs to get made. I read the script a while ago, and loved it. One big plus is that they included Blind Al, and weasle. There are a lot of flash backs, and montages, which kinda throws me off, but its still great. All the stuff about him stapling a hugh Jackman sexiest man of the year magazine cover to his face was funny as hell. Gotta keep the hype up. I need this, as one of the few fans that has supported him through the good and the bad times. If you remember "oooohh numbers" or "my common sense is tingling" or the sheep gun, please stand up and be heard.
marvel72 - 3/26/2013, 4:42 PM
@ thewonderer

kick ass $28 million made $96 million, that's like a $100 million movie making $300 million.
Ace006 - 3/26/2013, 4:44 PM
they basically just said what they said the other day but then I noticed this
"Wait until you’ve seen Tim [Miller's] test [footage]. It’s brilliant"
maybe we might see that soon
JatevinM - 3/26/2013, 4:44 PM
This movie is really getting alot of press lately. I think this is going to end up ultimately getting the movie made because the studio is starting to really see that people want to see the movie.
CPIXLEY - 3/26/2013, 5:09 PM
If someone wants the script, I can email it to them. Post your email addresses.
JatevinM - 3/26/2013, 5:23 PM
People all you have to do is google "Deadpool Script"
thewonderer - 3/26/2013, 5:23 PM
@marvel72 I said 50 million, and it would most certainly need more than 28 million.

@marvel87 Touche, but that had Guillermo Del Toro backing it. This has no one famous.

Look at Watchmens financial earnings, it could very well be that.
ATrueHero1987 - 3/26/2013, 5:37 PM
@thewonderer It could. It all depends on how they market it & when they release. Here are a couple more R rated successful CBMS.
V for Vendetta and let's not forget 300(made for $65 million and made $456 million at the BO!)
OrgasmicPotatoe - 3/26/2013, 5:49 PM
For those who didn't find it
samster10001 - 3/26/2013, 5:51 PM
Re-cast the role with another actor and show us that God damn test footage already
thewonderer - 3/26/2013, 5:56 PM

V for Vendetta got a lot of attention for its political themes and statements.

Deadpool, while a fun as hell ride, is pure unadulterated entertainment.

Not saying it makes Deadpool hard to sell, just that it's not the same demographic.
