ANT-MAN And DOCTOR STRANGE To Spearhead Phase 3 For Marvel

ANT-MAN And DOCTOR STRANGE To Spearhead Phase 3 For Marvel

Kevin Feige has been making the interview rounds here recently, and now he has just confirmed that not only will Ant-Man lead the way for Marvel's Phase Three after Avengers 2, but that Doctor Strange will be joining him!

Ant-Man and Doctor Stange have been two projects for Marvel, that have longed been rumored, but never confirmed. That all changed for Ant-Man this past July at Comic-Con when Marvel announced the film. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige talked about how he will be a major part of Phase 3."'Ant-Man' is definitely part of Phase Three. Like 'Iron Man 3,' it's certainly set in the Marvel Universe," he explained to MTV. He also went on to say that director Edgar Wright is the only reason the film is happening. "I've known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004. He asked me what Marvel was doing with 'Ant-Man' we weren't even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes," he laughed. While it's not a surprise, the Ant-Man movie will be an origin film, which Feige said is very much from the perspective of both wright and co-writer Joe Cornish. It will be apart of the MCU, but a different corner than we've seen before."

Feige went on to say that Phase three will be completely different from the stories they are telling now. Saying, "So much of what we're telling right now is about the core 'Avengers' characters we've now met, and they'll be evolving in big, surprising ways, in Cap's next movie and Thor's next movie and of course in 'Iron Man 3,' as we get them all into the next 'Avengers' film. Beyond that 'Ant-Man' is the only one officially announced." He continued by saying you wont have to look too far as to where they might go as far as other characters they are planning on bringing to the big screen.

With all that in mind, it brings us back to Doctor Strange. Who, acorrding to Feige, WILL be a part of Phase 3. "'Doctor Strange,' which I've been talking about for years, is definitely one of them," he confirmed. "He's a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he's totally different from anything else we have, just like 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' He's totally different from anything we've done before, as is 'Ant-Man,' which keeps us excited." No word yet still on the rumored Black Panther project, but it is exciting to see one of the long rumored films confirmed. With Ant-Man and now Strange, could Phase 3 be all new films and no sequels?
EdgyOutsider - 1/25/2013, 1:59 PM
*gets down on one knee* Marvel Studios, will you marry me?

@Levi: They've established The Hulk. I really think that they're wanting to establish new heroes before coming out with another film to for a superhero who has the boxoffice track record almost as bad as Ghost Rider.
jazzman - 1/25/2013, 2:11 PM
this is good news but WTF where is Black Panther
CharlesLord - 1/25/2013, 2:12 PM
this is interesting. wonder when we'll get news on BP. and if Strange is a part of phase 3....wat the hell is phase 3 gonna lead into?
pswatts97 - 1/25/2013, 2:13 PM
YESSS!!! Now all we need is Black Panther. Thank you Marvel!!
InfiniteMonkey - 1/25/2013, 2:17 PM
This is all well and good but, when are they going to put an Asian or Black super hero up?
Jamesx51 - 1/25/2013, 2:18 PM
citizenofgotham - 1/25/2013, 2:19 PM
Bring on Wong!
Franshu - 1/25/2013, 2:19 PM
I sure hope Marvel's films are successful enough for them to reach Phase Three...
PaulRom - 1/25/2013, 2:20 PM
Awesome. Now bring on Black Panther, Hulk and Daredevil.
KeefNCookies - 1/25/2013, 2:20 PM
Woo! Iron Fist and Black Panther next please :}
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 1/25/2013, 2:20 PM
you can make a shrinking man that talks to ants, a magician that no one cares about since the 70s but black panther is impossible? dafuq is wrong with you marvel.
Jumpman - 1/25/2013, 2:21 PM
Does everyone have to wet their pants whenever Feige announces things?

This dude is the ultimate salesman.
EdgyOutsider - 1/25/2013, 2:22 PM
@Levi: I love Mark Ruffalos Hulk. But, I meant Hulk as a solo film. I mean, the most logical choice for Hulk 2 villain wise is The Leader. The problem is that as a solo film, his track record is almost as bad as Ghost Rider and he hasn't exactly faired well solo. Both films are almost considered "rotten" on rottentomatoes. Both films didn't break 300 million at the boxoffice. I think they would rather make a film for a new, lesser known hero than one they've already established.

Ant man part of phase 3 - Ultron for Avengers 3? Those head honcho's know how badly we want to see him on screen
DevilHulk666 - 1/25/2013, 2:23 PM
who cares about Black Panther way overrated
RaleighAntrobus - 1/25/2013, 2:23 PM
... You mean characters no one cares for? Big [frick]ing whoop.

People will stop caring after Phase Two unless they get their big guns back: X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four.

I hope that Star Wars money comes in handy because they're gonna need to buy those properties back.
StarkAnthony - 1/25/2013, 2:24 PM
Phase 3: Ant Man and Doctor Strange so far, and I'm pretty sure they will throw in Thor 3 and Cap 3, though it's possible they go in a different direction. I feel like not everyone should get a trilogy. I think they definitely need to give a female hero a solo movie, such as Captain/Ms. Marvel. Or they could do a SHIELD movie with Black Widow and Hawkeye in starring roles, and maybe even Bucky depending on the events of The Winter Soldier. People of course also want Black Panther and a Hulk sequel...So much to do!!
GodzillaKart - 1/25/2013, 2:25 PM
@Jumpman: Feige is also President for Depends, so he is an expert at making us wet our pants. It's all about the greenbacks.

sikwon - 1/25/2013, 2:25 PM
Age of Ultron, age of ultron, AGE OF ULTRON!!!!
GodzillaKart - 1/25/2013, 2:25 PM
That said, bring on Dr. Strange! And with a little bit of Cumberbatch, please.
marvel72 - 1/25/2013, 2:27 PM
not bad at all,i think marvel should add more movies to phase 3.

phase 3

-the incredible hulk 2
-the defenders
-thor 3
-captain america 3
-the avengers 3
jessepostal - 1/25/2013, 2:27 PM
So no antman in avengers 2, or maybe give him an intro than his solo movie?
MutantEquality - 1/25/2013, 2:29 PM
So much negativity really?

We need get excited for more and more characters. As long as we back the creation of these characters and do "constructive criticism" then we have no worries at all.

I have faith in Marvel.

Now give me Black Panther and Iron Fist!!!!
MutantEquality - 1/25/2013, 2:30 PM
oh and AGE OF ULTRON!!!
Marqy - 1/25/2013, 2:30 PM
Im so loving this ...
spectre88 - 1/25/2013, 2:30 PM
Personally, I hope this universe ends with Avengers 3. Not that I don't like it but after Avengers 3. Or maybe even Avengers 4? I'm sure much of the original casting will be moving on.

Personally, after phase 3 I'd rather see original stand alone stories or perhaps adaptations of popular story arcs.
FirstAvenger - 1/25/2013, 2:31 PM
Ant man and Dr strange!
EdgyOutsider - 1/25/2013, 2:31 PM
@Levi: He has The Avengers to work on plus he's over seeing the rest of the Marvel Universe. I don't think he would have time for Hulk.
thewonderer - 1/25/2013, 2:33 PM
People who say a Hulk solo movie cannot work are playing into Marvels money game.

Give him to a capable director. Past 2 directors do not fit with the character.

Good news here

Nomadic1 - 1/25/2013, 2:35 PM
Great news. Keep going Marvel, you're doing great. Dr. Strange has such a great origin story. Can't wait!
